Description
The concept of Club Hopper is to help an aging party animal navigate the hardships of time travel, partying hard enough in each era to open up the warp to the next one. Each track represents a stage for the player to complete.

To coincide with the element of time travel, a number of different genres and tech was used, elaborated more in the theme section.

Theme:

Tick Tock...
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
While there are some arguably derivative connections to the theme (e.g. clock noises), there are some more meaningful ties throughout. Namely, every track tackles a different genre from an era when it was at its peak, imagined as a related stage theme the player lands in. Moreover, each one utilized a different means of creation, as listed below:

1. "No Cover at the Warehouse" (electronic dance party stage) - a heavy electronic track made with Renoise, using a variety of samples and effects. Also envisioned it as the title theme.

2. "From the Top" (jazz club) - a swinging jazz number with two different tempos, made in Furnace using the Sega X setup like a number of arcade titles in the 16-bit era.

3. "Torn Denim" (rock club) - a rock track bordering between the end of glam rock and the start of grunge. Made in Cubase with some synths and real guitar.

4. "Crashin' on the Couch" (house party) - an homage to 90s hip-hop, made in Furnace on the N163, a modified chip for the NES giving a more classic 8-bit crunch and fuzz. Would serve additionally as the staff roll theme.

Really nice work on getting the genres clear, no chance of missing what each track represents. And each genre is nicely done also, my personal favourite being the jazz track - maybe not the most classical jazz, but still nicely done.

Good job!

Developer(+1)

thank you! Ha yeah I don't think I've got the chops to write classical jazz, but I figured a sort of hip-hop + pop + jazz fusion thing might work. Thanks for listening!

larry suit game :]] also nice variety of genre too.

However, like one person said about the ringing noise, it is kind of too much for my ears :[ ya could potentially damage your hearing.

Torn denim ftw.

Developer(+1)

ha I'd guess you'd like that one! "Haber" is a killer guitar player and works a lot more with mixing + modern synths, so this track definitely evokes more of his style

oh hey, is Haberchuck a duo, then? :)

Yeah, tracker power!! I love the entire OST and how you tackled the theme from a technological and historical point of view as well, not just from the plot itself. Great entry.

Woah, the 4 tracks were quite diverse. I especially liked "From The Top" since it reminded me of Read Only Memories. The percussions in "No Cover..." were badass too. Very old-school.

also...

Broke, chronically single, and woefully discontent? That's just like me! (cries)

thanks! Great name drop with read only memories -- 2 Mello's stuff is great

I love this OST, especially Torn Denim(Rock Club)!

Loved "From the Top"! Great choice of style and general vibe!

really cool! really liked the vibe of the whole thing, and the way you interpreted the theme was super cool! the only thing i would mention is in "Crashin' on the Couch" there's a really aggressive ringing in your high-ends, but that can be easily fixed by some EQing.

over all, really nice job :)))

Developer

dang, I don't think I'll ever learn lol. this tends to happen when I do chip stuff and I'm always teetering on whether to use a pass filter and certainly seems like I should. thanks for the feedback and appreciate your adjusting it to be able to give it a proper listen!

wow! the range of styles are dope, and concept of the game sounds really cool!
Also, bonus point for Larry on the cover! ^_^

Developer(+1)

ha thanks! yeah he felt like the right angle to go given the character's nature. figured at least few folks would know him!
