Description
Classical/Electronic, made using Reaper
Track 1. Game intro, scene setting
Track 2. Boss fight!!

Message from the artist:
Check the itch page for more details, otherwise enjoy!

Theme:

Tick Tock...
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I used a ticking clock as a motif as well as changing time signatures. The picture reminded me of a game I recently played (Live a Live) which I used as a vague inspiration for the instrumentation.

I like the piano in Prelude, overall pretty emotional track, Lost Time is so cool particularly the 5/4 section at 0:40 it was my favorite. I also feel the need to rate the art, you did an amazing job overall! Well done! ^o^

* Intro: Lovely bit of piano/keys here. It didn't "grab" me quite as well as the second track, but it was very nice and easy listening, and giving a second listen I feel like I'm better appreciating the layering happening. Good title screen or intro sequence music for sure.
* Lost Time: Use of multiple time signatures always a cool thing to hear. I love that you managed to do this in the boss theme without throwing off the listener (at least not accidentally). Dig the bass and could really feel the epicness of the encounter.
* Samples/instruments are well chosen overall and nothing really feels overbearing

Prelude: I really like the piano chord progression and emotional melody. I like how the music seems to tell a story on its own. Initially there is the introduction of the main theme and the accompaniment, then after a brief pause, things seem to intensify with more pounding chords rather than arpeggiations. Then ending with the solo piano makes me think the main character is alone or lost and is trying to get back to the way things were. Ending with the static and clock ticking is a nice touch.

Lost Time: My favorite part of this track is the percussion as you use it not only as a foundation, but also like the other instruments in that it has its own voice with appropriate variation and does not get stuck in a the entire time. There is a sense of urgency in this which makes it great for a battle theme. The time signature changes and the key change keeps me on my toes and keeps the momentum driving forward. Overall great work and thank you for sharing!

"Prelude" is beautiful! Can certainly work as the main theme. "Lost Time" has some interesting development but I thought the kick could use some high-end. Overall, very enjoyable.

I also really like the cover art and the little animation as the visualizer. I know the jam's about music but I've seen some composers doing their own art that looks amazing too and yours is one of em'.

Thanks for listening! I can see what you mean about the kick, that could be what's lacking in some of the more 'intense' bits
I also probably had time to do another track but I always like having original art for things like this (especially since I was basing this music partly off one of my ocs whos a time traveler) so it really means a lot getting a complement for the art too!

The automated panning with the soft saw pad was a really nice touch, quite gentle on the ears, and yet made it feel more chaotic. really good energy transition between the tracks too. Nicely done!

Developer

Thanks for listening!! I really like panning effects and such in music so I started trying it out more when I'm making songs.

I like the twists in the soundtrack that are also shown in the changing visuals. The first static distortion at the end of the intro caught me off guard and got my attention. Good stuff. Thanks for making and sharing!

I wasn't expecting the electronic twist, but that really gave life to the soundtrack. It sounds excellent!

I really like the sound of the piano, it gives a very special feel to the whole soundtrack. I imagine, for some reason, a game with typical french aestetic to go with this (don't even know what that is but ...). The in game music changes nicely over time, and the use of a ticking sound is audiable but subtle enough to not be annoying or cliché.

Nice job!

Oh I totally get what you mean by french aesthetic, might use that sort of architecture style in the real game now.....
I was a bit worried the clock might be a bit cliché so I was trying to use it sparingly, but I felt without it something was lacking.
Thanks for listening!

Cool! The second track has an interesting groove, what time signature did you use? As for the first track, i think it could use some more dynamic velocity on the piano imo. In Reaper there is "humanize" option by pressing H key, in which you can randomize timings and velocity to make it sound more human, if you want that kind of thing.

Sounds like 5/4 or 5/8, something with five beats though that's for sure. Either way it's a daring choice! :)

Developer

Thanks for listening and for the reaper tip (I've been doing velocity manually this whole time lmao)!!! The second track switches between 7/4, 5/4 and 4/4.

Very nice. Prelude is simple yet charming, Lost Time is a banger with some cool rhythmical decisions. My only complaint is that the distortion thing and the crashes in the boss fight track are too loud.
