Description
I visualized an underwater RPG whose protagonist has just endured the loss of their mother and must find a way to survive underwater by traveling from one pocket of air to another. At first, they don’t know how they can go on without their mom, but eventually they find strength in their journey.

I chose to channel feelings from my current living situation - halfway across the world, feeling isolated; almost like I'm drowning. Suspended in strangeness and unknowing.
My piece title, “Ten Years From This Second,” uses a voice over from the film The Last Woman On Earth in which the main character must choose who to be with at the end of the world. A late professor of mine, Dale Sherrard, instilled in me a love of found objects and I wanted to dedicate part of my return to sound shaping to him in some way.

I thought of "Subaqueous Spotlight" as an equivalent to Mario's underwater theme. It's bubbly and fun and erodes into a daydream.

And "Hearbeat of a Planet" is meant to be a lifeline of sorts to the future, a belief in better things to come.

I used Reaper as my DAW.

How does it fit the theme?
The image spoke to me because I feel alone, like I've lost a part of myself and like I don't belong in my environment. I tried to channel those feelings in my tracks.

Hi Jessica!

Lovely cover art, awesome music! The sense of mystery that it carries is great. Also really cool harmonies and nice taste to choose an interesting color palette for your music.

Great work!!!

Ten Years From This Second - Lol, why the motif reminded me of Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop.... heh) interestingly embedded voice, as if someone wants to tell me something important, but the water is in the way....

Subaqueous Spotlight - Still Red Hot Chili Peppers) But wybly!

Heartbeat Of A Planet - Heartbeat Of A Planet... is a creative way to describe life!

Overall - I liked it) It was definitely fun!

"Can't stop, addicted to the shindig

Chop Top, he says I'm gonna win big

Choose not a life of imitation

Distant cousin to the reservation"

You've done well on the dream-like feel! Nice submission!

The last track reminded me of the moonlight jellies festival in stardew valley!

Nice work on the theme and execution! You delivered something quite contemplative and I love that. Thank you for also putting yourself out there, and in this OST. It’s a always special when we channel our feelings directly into a piece!

Thank you for your kind words. I'm at a point in my life where it would be harder to not put myself into my work somehow. Loved your piece as well!

Thank you that's super sweet of you. And I totally get that :)

A sad and beautiful work. Bravo for taking the theme in a different direction that most people did. I hope that protagonist finds peace at the end.

Interesting listen! Liked Heartbeat the most. The atmospheric sounds used really convey the vast ocean pretty well. Good work!

Very interesting use of the voice samples. The synth choices were great as well!

Though, for a real game, I think I might get distracted by random voices sounding during gameplay haha. But as a standalone soundtrack, I like it. Good job!

Sound selection is insane - especially that last track! It's like you used presets designed by the ocean itself, it's crazy. Love the work!

Developer

You are too kind. Thank you :D

I love the synths used here, definitely gives a deep vibe that conveys your game description super well!

Thanks, I'm glad that came through.

Wow! It sure does feel like you are underwater and separated from everything. Good job! I like the style and feeling a lot.

This has an excellent style, definitely delivers the underwater vibe. Sounds wet and...schlorpy? Obviously, that's not a word, but I think it gets my point across. I do think the sample in the first track could have been mixed in a little better. It's placed well but it's a bit loud in the mix, could benefit from something like Soundly Place It to give it some space.

Overall though, great stuff!

Developer

Thank you and yes, I agree about the samples. I spent way too much time trying to finesse them, but I just need more practice with mixing. Thank you for the recommendation. I will check it out!

The first piece really sets up a clear vibe for the game you describe. Great job!

I thought the polyrhythm (3 over 2) that kicked in during the first track gave it a nice groove.
I also enjoyed picking out all of the different voices and movements of the synths in the third piece.
