Description
I think it counts as Orchestral.

As I was composing, I imagined an RPG with the general theme of bereavement.

Title is just a title track, more of a mood setter than anything, y'know?

Home is an overworld theme, something for the hometown area full of shops.

I don't really know how to describe my composition style, I just kinda throw notes into the piano roll and it usually ends up sounding alright.

I used REAPER, it's what I'm used to. I heard a lot of good things and then I tried it, super intuitive.

Message from the artist
I'd like to say sorry for the lack of tracks. I've been pretty busy this month and haven't had a lot of time to work on it. Still, I did what I could.

Please judge me as brutally and honestly as possible, I don't want any pity points!

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I think the instrumentation spoke to the general eastern vibe of the image, plus the theme of bereavement came from interpreting the humanoid bubble as a memory of a person.

I love that relaxing guitar..... flutes...

Thank you!

Fairly decent, but I feel like there could have been a lot more work in the dynamics. Everything sounds very mid focused.

very sweet and pleasant songs!! the piano beat on "home" reminds me a lot of the stardew opening theme. pretty good for just messing around on the piano roll (aka the best music writing style...)

For just “throwing around notes in the piano roll”, this is a really good submission!

Loved the progression in the title theme, and “Home” was very pleasant. I will say that the instrument (don’t know what it is lol) that comes in during the second half of “Home” feels very disconnected with how much reverb it has.

Good job!

Really appeasing submission! God job!

I liked the first track, the mixing and the feel is on point.

I also found the bells on the second track to be too loud, Nice work!

You said to be brutal so I will. I don't think either track ends in a very satisfying way. I think if you looped them and faded out or gave them a proper finale it would sound better.

I also think that the second melodic instrument you used in Home sounded a little too distant compared to the other instruments in the song but that might just be a personal preference.

But to be honest these were really sweet songs that reminded me of stardew valley so Great Job!

Really great job! I really enjoyed home the melody is very pretty. Great work!

The mood you created is really great, and the instrumentation is also spot on and work really great together! If you want some constuctive critisism then I would like some more movement or variety in the sounds, because the tracks themselves are great, but  the guitar part is a bit repetetive sounding <3

Very interesting sounds, some elements sound close and others very open in the mix! The title theme was my favourite, quite dramatic but also evoking a sense of mystery. I also noticed the alternation of major and minor chords towards the end, hinting at a mix of feelings. Home reminds me of the chill songs in Stardew Valley. Well done!

I agree about the major and minor chords at the end of the title theme. You think you know where it is going, then the minor chord comes in and you feel the ambivalence. Great job :)

Oh that title theme is just drenched in moodiness. Slow progression complemented by great layering of the differing elements. Really nice call and response trade-off between the strings and the piano as it approaches the end. This is laden with emotion, and made for quite the stark transition into Home which is so airy and carefree in response.

Think you nailed the Overworld vibe, good call on changing out the lead instrument to provide a little bit of a change of color. Great work with these two, curious to see what else you do in the future. Great work, and best of luck!

The busy-ness of life notwithstanding, the two tracks came out well with a few little interesting wrinkles once it built up. I imagine a game sort of like Legend of Mana, although I think it'd be good if your submission had explained a bit more what kind of game it was and what kind of experience you wanted to go for.

So, focusing on the music - nothing wrong, here. Pretty chill. Would like to see the colorful game that this would belong to!

Love the chill vibes of the OST!

Love this! Instrumentation is perfect. Listening makes me feel like I'm about to explore an open world

Hi Marine! Loved the two tracks, I would agree with Marchen in that they're super relaxing to listen to. They would be great background music for a videogame. Good work!

Developer

I do like that you highlighted the whole "background music" thing. I wanted to write something that wouldn't distract from what was happening in the hypothetical game. Thanks for the kind words!

Great instrumentation and arrangement. This is the type of OST that makes you want to kick back and relax!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad relaxation was the tone you got from it! It's always nice to sit down and chill out when things are too hectic lol
