Description
The idea was a sort of marine exploratin game (inspirede by games such as ABZU), but a bit more dynamic and with bossfights.

I tried to make a soundtrack that conveyed a kind of "marine" and intimate feel (mainly by using soft orchestral sounds and chill synths), but with a touch of retro style waves to add a bit of fun and dynamicity to it.

The track CephalopodaTitleTheme, should be the main theme of the game, it first wrote a basic version of it on sheet paper, and later moved it into ableton. the same goes for the battle against the nautilus song (wich should be a boss fight theme for the main boss of the game, a giant nautilus)
The calming water track should be a small ambiental track, that you should hear during exploration moments in the sea, and I made it directly in ableton without writing anything first, to make it maybe less contrained to a fixed scheme.

The daw I used for the project is ABLETON

Calming Waters – You’ve really managed to capture that beauty like in Abzu but in a quite different style. Really liked it.

Battle Against the Nautilus – I feel like I should be using a shovel to fight that monster. Greatly appreciate the different organs you’ve been using in there.

Cephalopoda Theme – While I wanted to clobber down that Nautilus with a shovel, I feel like I want to cuddle the other cephalopods. Very sweet and calm idea.

All in all a very cool entry.

I loved the synth you used in the main theme! It was so wavy it reminded me of Metroid.

This soundtrack has a lot of character. It made it very easy to envision your game idea. I think you nailed the marine feeling! "Calming Waters" was my favorite, I was thinking of a trailer for your game in my head while listening to it haha.

One nitpick is I think some of the sounds (like the strings and pads) could have used more attack and release to add to the ambient vibes.

Awesome work!

Retro vibes...AWESOME!

I love the dramatic sound in Battle Against the Nautilus with the melodic treatment you did there.

And the cover art...♥

Great work!!

Heh... The cover art looks like a real music album from the 80s

"It was definitely a very beautiful soundtrack. Three compositions in which I do not feel separate instruments, for me the music feels like a single stream of music, thoughts and emotions. Muted, but vivid emotions..."

I liked it!

I love the whole theme rising, I was kinda wishing the whole theme would blow up but you went a really interesting direction with it. Super solid entry overall, there's a ton to like here!

Even just the slow lead-in sound for the title theme track I could've listened to for a few minutes. Also in that track I loved the simplicity of the little bell diads moving around and I thought the big interval jumps in the melody felt memorable and evocative.

That track was a very nice lead-in to Calming Waters which felt very professional.  You really give each instrument the space it deserves and lean into the soft stillness and gradual wobbling and rising.  This feels like a track to come to terms with mortality during a peaceful sunset to.

I have less to say about Nautilus only because it disturbed the slumber your first two pieces masterfully put me under.  No, but it's cool.  I liked the lead coming in intermittently like it was reminding you of some element of the fight and the percussion and low passing felt urgent and intense

Absolutely collecting all kinds of genres with these, haha. The vibes in Calming Waters are immaculate - super soft and ambient but with enough progression to keep flow going. Nice use of strings mid-way through; a subtle accompaniment before bowing out again. Great work. Cool concepts that are well executed.

I really like the atmosphere of this soundtrack - some of the synth sounds, the tape-sounding instruments and the organ give it this really nice 60s/70s vibe that really works!

As FoxHyode said though, would be even better if you dialed up the reverb and delay effects.

Calming Waters is my favourite, it has a great dreamy sound with the harp and strings.

Love the "Calming Waters", love it's mystic vibes! Great, calm ambient overall.

But too short. Adding a few more tracks would be great!

The song for the battle against the Nautilus is definitely my favorite song on the album. I wasn't expecting something with organs like that, but in a weird way it feels really fitting for a nautilus, I can imagine a lot of fun gameplay for a fight like that, and this song sells the vibe well.

Thanks!

Sounds very retro but modern at the same time, you captured the water vibe well. Maybe i'm just a fan of reverb but I think you could go way harder on reverb especially Calming waters (my favourite) to really feel the ambiance of underwater.

Developer

ahaha, I'll try adding more reverb to the track to listend how it would have sounded like :D Thanks!
