Description
Track List:
1. Before the Plunge - Title Theme
2. Splash of Joy - Shallows theme, inspired by naive joy and hope
3. Thought Bubbles - Open ocean theme, inspired by tranquility and loneliness
4. The Abyss She Left Behind - Deep ocean theme, inspired by fear of the unknown and deep-rooted trauma
5. Six Degrees of Freedom - Return to the surface, inspired by the power and liberty of self-knowledge
6. Know Myself - Credits Theme

The genre is chiptune, and I made this soundtrack in Beepbox

I use 2 leitmotifs throughout this to keep it cohesive, which first appear in Before the Plunge and Splash of Joy respectively

I decided to push myself a little by attempting to use the Mixolydian mode in Before the Plunge, the Phrygian mode in The Abyss She Left Behind, and the Lydian mode in Six Degrees of Freedom. I also used a 5-on-4 polyrhythm in Abyss - all of which I haven't done before.

Each track is intended to be part of an area that is traversed through in a progressive way - no doubling back or re-doing levels. I was inspired by Gris when imagining the structure of the game - the way everything centres around its emotional core. As for the genre of the game, probably also some kind of platformer where emotion is at its core. I think setting an entire platformer underwater could also have interesting consequences for the physics - but I haven't thought about the specifics of how that would tie in.

Message from the artist
This is my first game soundtrack composing jam so I'm really excited :3
I want to be a game developer professionally some day and I feel like just participating in this is a step in the right direction

Theme

Inside my world
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
All 4 level themes were directly inspired by some feeling I could draw out of an element of the image, or indeed its whole - the crayon drawings, the bubbles, the dark blues, the bright colours and sense of hope overall.
That's what I used as the starting point and direction for my composing - the image was my north star.
And with the mysterious figure in the background, I saw potential to tie introspection around loss to the "inside my world" prompt.
I've left the exact emotional content open to interpretation - but I definitely think it's about dealing with loss and loneliness and finding hope.

It's time for one of the most exciting chiptunes of this jam...

Before The Plunge - On the one hand - it's soothing. With another... I feel an approaching "threat" thanks to the percussion, which seems to be telling me: "I am here. No matter what. I'm here. I am here.".. The adventure begins...?

Splash Of Joy - Heh. A high-quality rhythm of the drums and still a sweet melody! It would be perfect for playing on older consoles. The brisk transition to 1:42 is great!

Thought Bubbles - EXCITING BUBBLES

The Abyss The Left Behind - This track scares me... The brisk transition to 3:18 feels like a transition to some kind of powerful battle!

Six Degrees Of Freedom Is creepy... and then it's fun! It was as if I felt an incredible surge of freedom in my soul!

Know Myself - Credits :_)

Overall, I liked it! You have your own style (And considering that I have additionally checked your other creativity on Soundcloud, then your style is definitely well formed). Each track has its own highlights and performs its task well!

Thanks for the fascinating journey through the world of chiptune)

P.S. Absolutely right! Jams like this are a great step to move towards your dream! (I wish I could also strive to participate in such events. Heh...)

Splash of joy...THAT vibe!

I love how well you evoke each of the moods with your music and with CHIPTUNE. Which I think is the hardest in terms of nuances.

The Abyss She Left Behind has something very special to me.

Well done!

This is a very quirky (in a good way) chiptune album. My favorite track was "Know Myself".

Nice vibes. Really reminiscent of SNES games

Good job overall! Very intense moments.

Oh, I really like the vibes in Thought Bubbles but I think that Know Myself takes the medal for me personally - it just has that mischievous sass that can only be found in chiptune. All in all these were put together quite well, an enjoyable listen as a whole! Good work. :)
