Message from the artist
This was a lot of fun! I definitely went a lot more zelda-like with this one cause I felt it fit the game idea more. I'm super happy with how everything turned out, and while I wish I could have done some things better, overall this OST came out really nice and I learned some new orchestration techniques from it

When I listened to this soundtrack, I perfectly imagined walking through a fantasy world... cool!

The World Is Dangerous is my favorite because it sounds SO HIGH and airy... Heh)

Cool soundtrack! Thanks!

I hear the Zelda inspiration! I like the instrument choices you made for each track. There was a cohesive theme that held the tracks together and kept the story going. Thanks for sharing!

A touch of Darkness is my favorite one! The dynamics and phrasing of the main instrument was so on point. Love it!!

Also I really liked the nice sense of adventure in The World is Dangerous!!!

There's a bit of discrepancy between tracks for the volume. Otherwise super solid entry, enjoyable and really matching your theme!

thanks so much!! I’m currently trying to focus on the mixing aspect itself, so the overal mix, as well as volume from track to track will be fixed after the jam when I finish this OST

This soundtrack took me back to the RPGs I played when I was a kid! I can definitely hear the Zelda inspiration in these tracks whilst still feeling unique. I also liked the variety in your tracks, composing for both cutscenes and in-game situations. I hope you continue to develop this idea you have here because this soundtrack is a really solid start!

The mix of Zelda and Pokemon vibes I got from this OST was fantastic! Each track felt well developed and full, and would work really well as game BGMs. I especially liked track 5, the variety of sound you had in there was a lot of fun to listen to. I think one thing you could try with the tracks with more instruments is panning the supporting/accompanying instruments to the side, while letting the instruments with the melody stay at the center. For example, in track 5, you could pan the woodwinds and brass to the side, while letting the strings and percussion stay in the center. This would help let the melody and the percussion come through more clearly, while letting the other instruments provide a cinematic sound that surrounds and immerses the player. Great job with this OST, really enjoyed listening to it!

Developer

oh, thanks so much! I will admit I could have done better panning. I just used the default that came with EastWest Symphonic Orchestra’s Close Mics. thanks for the suggestion though! I might try that panning style in a future track of mine ^^

From the first note, it immediately gave me Zelda vibes. Needless to say, I love that world from a musical standpoint, and I think you've managed to bring a similar style to life very authentically. The timbre dictates the coherence in your tracks; at the same time, you’ve managed to diversify the moods from one piece to another, effectively conveying the different phases of a game. This stuff would work perfectly in a platformer; I can imagine the game without even seeing it. You've really done a great job! I think it’s one of the best I’ve heard today 🙂

Additionally, I listened to the music before reading the description, and I must say I imagined the third track exactly for a cutscene, and the second one for a peaceful area. This further emphasizes that your intentions were very successful, as you managed to convey your ideas to me through the music even before using words.

Adventure ABSOLUTELY. This OST brings me right back to my childhood. Full of triumphant and whimsical adventure. It strongly reminds me of many of my favorite franchises. The composition and mix is so good. I would be so proud of this OST you’ve done a great Job. This is one of my favorites!

Everything here speaks quality and experience, and I had a soft spot for it because my own submission leaned orchestral.  Some things here for me to take note as you also kept it more on the rails of what an OST is supposed to be like, whereas mine was more of a wild manual performance.  Much respect!

This definitely feels like it belongs in a 16-to-32-bit action-RPG of some kind. the Excalibur track was pretty in particular and the tracks all fit their purpose. Maybe feels a mite 'stock' but definitely understands the assignment IMO. Good show all around.

[edit:] favorite track: Dark Places Are Scary

Wow, an impressive amount of work here. The opening track has such strong Nintendo vibes. Very high energy fantasy. Dark Places Are Scary (some of these titles made me lol) has a great mood which, yes, is very reminiscent of Zelda. Thanks for making and sharing.

Overall consistent and driven by the game idea. You'd have no difficulty imagining this in a game. Flagrant example being Let the Adventure Begin, that IS such a file select theme haha. Great orchestral prowess too, I noticed it on The Legendary Sword Awaits and The World is Dangerous. The latter doesn't get tiring, it's great for what would be a looping overworld theme. Dark Places Are Scary is on-point. Nice entry!

Developer

Thanks!!

I really enjoy the entries like this that have very distinct tracks that all represent different things but still feels cohesive since that's what a video game OST should strive to do. Great job!

1.) The Legendary Sword Awaits! - 4.8 / 5.0

Starting off with an amazing composition! Reminds me of my Legend of Zelda days, I love it a lot! Definitely makes me feel like a legendary sword awaits me.

2.) Let The Adventure Begin! - 3.8 / 5.0

Just a nice peaceful and lively track. I like jingling notes at the end of the measures, makes it sound more enthusiastic.

3.) A Touch of Darkness - 4.0 / 5.0

A pretty dramatic track. I feel like it lacks some variety tho, but that's just what I think.

4.) Excalibur Awakens - 3.5 / 5.0

Just a nice relaxing simple and short track. Again, I feel like it's lacking some melody variety, but pretty good nonetheless.

5.) The World Is Dangerous!! - 4.5 / 5.0

Again, another lovely composition! If the first song didn't prepare me for adventure, then this one definitely does!

6.) Dark Places Are Scary - 4.3 / 5.0

A nice little ominous dungeon track. Again, gives off something that would be in Legend of Zelda.

Overall a pretty well made OST. Although personally, I feel like at times some of the tracks would be a bit repetitive, although that's just my opinion.  I think you did a good job with this one, and I'm glad you also had fun with this Jam! Have a good day :D

Wow you really go in depth when rating!

Developer

wow, thanks so much for the extremely detailed rating and the kind words! as for some things being lacking in melodic variety, I noticed that a day before the deadline, and didn’t really have time to fix them with stuff in life going on. I will update the ost later with some changes regarding that after the rating period is over!
