Explain your hypothetical game concept & how you interpreted the theme!
The scale and the theme made me think of a retro dungeon side scroller, so I tried to embrace those vibes and go for something that felt like a lil adventurer trawling through underground caves and ruins looking for treasure.

What genre is your soundtrack?
chiptunes

Anything else you'd like to add?
This was definitely a track that required a lot of noodling around until I got something that sounded interesting and not entirely dissonant. I composed it in Ableton Live using samples, Magical 8bit Plug 2, and ML Drums, mostly relying on stock audio effects and some RC-20.

Fun song, very reminiscent of something from the Game Gear IMO.

Oh rad, haven't thought about Game Gear in forever. The number of batteries I went through...

Great work! Fantastic that you managed to create such a catchy melody from the whole tone scale, not an easy feat!

Developer

Thanks!!

Sweet chiptune!!! I think you can maybe do some note modulation for those held notes in the middle to give it a little movement. Like a tapering vibrato maybe. I dunno it’s all real good!

Developer

Ooh good idea, thanks so much!

Great job on this! Chiptune and whole tone scale fit well together. And I applaud you for keeping the song dynamic as I find it can be hard to do that with chiptune music! It sounded just like I'd imagine dungeon music to sound with that journey element tucked right in.

If there's anything I could suggest, it would be to find all those resonant frequencies that are more fatiguing to the ears and cut them out.

Developer

Appreciate the feedback! The mix job was definitely a bit of a rush, definitely need to go back through and cut some of those frequencies.

Ok, your posting is one of my favorites :>

First off - BARABANS. RHYTHM. BEAT. CHIPTUNE AAAAAAAHHHH LOVE IT.

All this simultaneously cool, mysterious and funky melody creates its own interesting atmosphere..... as if I'm listening to a rock band that lost their instruments at one point, but they still have chips from old consoles.

Also I would like to mention the effects in my ears and those waves-transitions between parts of the track.... cool!

Honestly, very cool work!

Developer

Thanks so much, really appreciate it!

I really really love how you used the whole tone scale in this, both within themes and also when there are flourishes of bits of whole tone scale. It does make it sound really dungeon-y!  I've not tried to make chiptune music yet but this makes me really want to get into it - I really love what you've created

Thanks so much!!
