  • I'm quite a fan of the different color pallets used for this. The simplicity of the story and how that ties back into the theme is a nice touch to me, as it makes the overall game feel clever in its approach. Admittedly, I was a bit slow in the beginning portion figuring out why I couldn't progress to certain areas in time until I just started clicking around the environment until something specific changed. Fun game all the same
  • What begins as a well-written and intriguing tale regrettably ends in disappointment when the story abruptly comes to its conclusion with little in the way of an interesting plot. The gameplay loop is clever, but repetitive and largely unsatisfying. The music and visuals are top notch, and the theme is reasonably well implemented into the narrative and gameplay.
  • Neat little entry! very simple. Unfortunately for me i managed to get myself soft locked between the hooded figure and one of the rescued NPCs in the fire room. I lost the ability to move or do anything else suddenly after speaking with the hooded figure. I seemed to have used my oil incorrectly and prevented my own progression before hand, as I used both oil and could no longer reach the stairs. Otherwise solidly built! and decent execution on theme. good work :)

Interact (Z) with light sources to spread light around, increasing the area you can explore. Rescue NPCs, pickup notes, get fuel for lamps, all in effort to reach the machine deep below and banish the encroaching darkness.

Colour palette can be selected with 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys.

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Love the concept and aesthetics of this game. Reminds me of the years I played games on my gameboy color.

I love the atmosphere of this game. The art style is on spot, the music is cool and the story made me want to explore as much as I could. The light mechanic is pretty fun as well, all I have for this game are nice words.
One of the best I've tried so far, congrats! :)

thank you so much for the nice words!

Truly gorgeous stylistically, both the pixel artwork and the writing were an absolute joy. The background music after entering the basement absolutely slaps. Loved the curious little world you built, thank you for sharing, and have a wonderful jam 💚

I liked the color palettes - also spreading light is such a good interpretation of the theme. The gimmick got a little boring at the end, but the writing and the music really got me through the whole game! Very compact game, and impressive entry!

thank you!!

Can't wait to see this game getting bigger, a full version with different puzzles would be awesome! Great content mate!

Developer

Thankyou! We're discussing just that possibility :)

That was quite enjoyable! I thought I was done and then there was a whole basement section! I like how you saw oil lamps before you got the oil so you knew there were paths to go back to.

Great game! Love the retro aesthetics. The light and shadow mechanic is cool, i like how its a quick reset if you end up dying to the shadows. The pacing feels nice. The font for the game page is really hard to read though, i had to select the text to read the text.

Thankyou! And sorry, I originally made it with my dark reader extension on which messed up the colours. Fixed it now :)

Oh this is a favourite! I really enjoyed exploring in the dark and the little story alongside it too :)

It was so simple but well executed, well done!

Excellent design and artistic achievement, with a fun and simple puzzle keeping you going. I must admit, I had to quit with probably one lantern remaining, because I Got a little sick of wandering. It might help to have a minimap of ONLY the places you have lightened, that might be just enough to make you think "oh this area over here is empty" without spoiling the solution entirely.  Just a thought though, very nice game.

Thank you very much!
That's an interesting idea, I think in a longer version a map of some kind would make a lot of sense, I'll be sure to keep it in mind. Originally I planned to have a bit more direction but I just ran out of time . Thanks for your kind words <3
