  • Very cool submission! -1 point for the twitch awards nominee flex in the credits /s. for real though, my only complaint is the genuine guilt I felt about the old lady being sad in the background every time I got a file. Messed up.
  • UI, sfx, music are all on point. It matches the theme both aesthetically and mechanically, and is very clever in its usage. It's challenging, difficult and appeals to its target audience better than any game I've judged thus far. Would love to see it get the budget needed to become a full-fledged title.
  • loving the mechanics and concept for how it ties back to the overall theme. good stuff (even though i'm not as good at platformers as i used to be)
  • This game is SO GOOD. Solid gameplay experience, no bugs encountered, conforms nicely to the theme, jammer music and artstyle, I've got literally no complaints. Phenomenal work!

Rip the announcer's table.   Neat game though!  :D  I liked the fluid physics and overall aesthetics!

Nice state based puzzle game. Cool idea you got.

Absolutely great game. Good execution on a good idea.

And I loved the humor! On menus and the end screen I started just clicking everything to see if more Easter eggs would pop up lol

Rad!

I love everything about this game! The graphics, the art, and the grandma pictures are all soo good. The game is challenging ad fun!

This was awesome! The first thing I noticed was how you made the itch page look like a computer screen. Clever! Loved the sound, the music, the quotes, and the mechanics. Had a lot of fun. That last level was tough for me and rounded out my whole play through at 22 minute hahaha. 6 minutes is impressive but that makes sense for it to be the dev. I loved the old windows look too, very well done.

Noticed you say you used a synth and a bit crusher for the music in another comment- I've done the same myself so it's validating seeing someone else use the same method and pull it off so well.

Awesome work!

Super creative take on the theme. I love how you were able to combine a simple premise with one unique mechanic and it's all so much fun. Great work! Also nice music. Did you use a Pokemon sound font? The lead instruments remind me a ton of Game Boy Color era OSTs.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! When making the music I was attempting to recreate a Gameboy vibe so good catch, though I actually created all the sounds myself using a virtual synth and a bit crusher to make everything 8-bit sounding. Glad to know my work payed off though haha.

Haha, heck yeah dude! always feels better making that stuff from scratch. I used my own synth bass for our project and was so glad I didn’t use stock stuff

Might be a jam winner here. Grandma quotes were great. One problem I found is if you lost some of the particles it makes purple ball-jumping really hard, especially the particles that default to the bottom/middle of the virus.

Excellent. You already have all the notes about control scheme, which are really just polish stuff anyway. Technically it's really accomplished. I thought the Grandma background was maybe a bit wide and diffuse to appreciate.... I'd be keen to see a little icon or popup somewhere non-essential on the screen that replaces the background image in a more contained fashion.

Nice work team. A platformer I can actually play!

Please read before commenting! I want to thank everyone for the amazing response and feedback we have gotten for our jam game! To capture some of the feedback I already have and am implementing post jam:

  • Accessibility - Add controls rebinding and gamepad support
  • Reforming - Add indicator to where the blob will reform
  • Level Design - Tight spaces make it too hard to build momentum (remove tight spaces)
  • Unexpected Behavior - When trying to reform in a grate or pipe the player snaps all the way back to where they went liquid, instead I will make it so the player snaps to the nearest liquid particle not in a grate or pipe.
  • Responsiveness - Because the player is liquid the controls do not feel responsive, I will be tightening them up and fine tuning the physics system I built to make the blob.
  • Locks - Increase the pick up range for the lock/key mechanic
  • Volume Control - I will add a pause menu and settings menu with volume controls

Thanks so much! I am looking forward to the post jam build, I am honored so many people have engaged with the game.

Amazing and unique game!

really only complaint is the liquid movement is kinda frustrating sometimes, altho i guess it kinda makes it a rage game

also i found it hard to identify the center of the blob when changing forms.

I really like this, its a super unique take the platformer genre...

Fun game, with a very unique mechanic with a unique feel. I'm sorry grandma. :(

Haha loved the looks, fun plataforming

This is a really cool concept, and the theming is hilarious :D. It requires skill and dexterity, and visually has a cool old school windows vibe / feel to it. Nicely done.

Submitted(+2)

Hilarious execution! The blob physics and concept of movement were really fun. I couldn't master the art of using momentum in liquid mode though. I kept recombining in areas I didn't want to. One of my favorite games so far the gameplay, aesthetic, and comedy factors stand out.

I just want to be a little virus, play with a ball, nom on a file. But life shattered me into a thousand pieces, and a firewall burned my ass. I still can't get past level 3, and got called a grandma for it by Mr. Excessive Profanity.

OMG thank you for this level of dedication to finishing the game, also I just saw the VOD this morning haha. I don't think your a grandma for getting stuck on level 3. To be honest I tuned the game to be a little too hard and will adjust post jam with a lot of the feedback I have gotten. Thanks so so much for giving the game a try, I poured all my time these last  2 weeks into programming my first ever puzzle-platformer and it is warming me up to see so many people trying it out.

It was quite challenging, but not impossible. Really made me think about what buttons I had to press mid-jump, instead of just smashing space and shift randomly.
You could make it even harder and turn it into the next Boshy :D

Developer(+1)

I can't believe you let EXP bully you into finishing it! I helped make the game and I still haven't done that yet! (Don't tell Simpathey)
But also as someone who isn't God Tier gamer I know how hard it is and respect your skills! Thank you so much for playing it!

Tbh seeing him play gave me an idea for a different approach, so I had to try again. And then he finished it, and it motivated me to do better :>

Submitted(+2)

I don't know what kind of wizardry you did to get the blob physics so perfect but you absolutely nailed it. I found myself just messing around instead of completing the levels haha.

Kitboga playthrough when?

Submitted(+1)

Enjoyed the retro EGA vibe, very nostalgic and is a cute love letter to early 90s gaming.  The puzzles where challenging, fun and loss always felt fair.

My old man hands struggled with shift. Wonder what the game would feel like with WASD and directional keys UP for jump and DOWN for solid/liquid state change? Hrm.

Great game. I couldn't help but laugh when I launched it. Who is going to teach grandma to stop clicking those suspicious links? I enjoyed the liquid to solid gameplay getting shot through the accelerators was a blast. The character had soo much spring too. I felt like I was flubber. The music was awesome the jokes were great and the visuals were very clear. You never died to anything when you didn't know what it was. My only critique would be some of the difficulties getting through the gates and finding where I would reform at. It took me a few form changes before I realized where the camera was looking is where I would spawn back in at.  The voice acting always cracked me up. Grandma: "That was my favorite picture." The last level was tough but it was enjoyable getting that you win screen. It felt like it wrapped the game up very nicely.
