  • I really enjoyed this game so much. The music gave me this feeling of being on a stealth mission but also a duty to complete. The fact I had to destroy someone's career to make my own by being an office menace was a really unique way of being a weapon. I really do want to thank you for having 4 difficulty settings, a volume setting, and the ability to skip cutscenes for when I inevitably try the harder difficulties. I didn't know an office job could be this fun and I hope you push the development of this game further then just this jam! I will be looking forward to seeing it's future! Suggestions: - Randomized mode where # of Managers, KKPIs, Employees, etc are present on days. - Maybe make a Factory level or construction site. - Maybe add some employees that will alert or help you against the supervisors. - More cat naps!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
yes

Summarise your game!
You are a kitty living in a busy office. You are a Jr Catuary for the Cat Distribution System stationed at Office Corp… but a promotion to Cat-astrophe Manager is within your grasp… if you pass a week long purr-formance review. Complete all your Kitty Key Purr-formance Indicators (KKPIs) each day to earn your promotion!

Watch out though, Bob, the Lead of Cleanliness at Office Corp, is also seeking a promotion. He needs to keep the office clean and tidy to get his promotion to Assistant to the Manager. He is getting more and more angry the messier the office gets. He is quick when he is mad so watch out!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
It fits the theme as you are the weapon of destruction in the office! I don't want to make a game with direct harm to another in it, so this is what I came up with.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
No, whatever feedback you can give in general is nice. This is my second game jam, and I am working on just improving overall. :)

Very cute game! I didn't like that I had to redo the trash objective on the second day. Also, it seemed like the people with the vision cones could see me outside the vision cone. Great art game looks great! Good job!!

Cute little cat game, the art, music and sound effects were great! I like the mini story the game has as well, and the concept of the game is nice!

The game has many things it can expand on, the story seems really nice so a lengthier game, and more cutscenes would add to it. Different offices (or floors) would also be a nice touch! I really liked the jumping mechanic despite this being a top-down 2D game, would be great if you can jump over walls! While I get that you want the player to plan out what task they want to do first, as the final task gets the supervisors chasing you no matter where you are, I feel this could be changed. For a stealth type game, I feel it would make more sense for doing tasks to produce sound, which attracts the supervisors. And with how you already have a anger meter, perhaps higher anger results in the supervisors reacting faster to sound? This could be counter-acted by having the anger meter only increasing when the supervisors detect things, like seeing the rubbish on the floor, rather than increasing when the player messes up the stuff.

There are some minor issues with the game currently. On the end scene, the New Game or Exit button has text above that is overlapping other text, which makes it a little hard to read. The jump also doesn’t get you off tables if you’re jumping while moving diagonally.

The cone view of the supervisors seem a little off, as many times they managed to spot me despite not being in the range. The pathfinding of the supervisors are a little weird as well, as at times they could see me through a wall, and start running at the wall instead of looping around.

The difficulty scaling is a little high the higher you set it to, as even Hard seems extremely difficult to complete. The ending was also a little abrupt, as I was hoping for a similar cutscene at the start.

I loved the settings you have available, of being able to skip cutscenes, the volume, even the skip button if you forgot to turn off the setting in the menu. I feel that adding a way to skip cutscenes automatically if you redo a level in the game itself would also be great.

A really great game! Would have loved more bread! Great work for the game jam!

Love the art, the sound design is hilarious and the story made the whole experience even better. Jumping off and onto the tiles sometimes bugged out and I was softlocked for a moment until I decided to spam spacebar. I really like the challenge and the level design and was constantly running for my life with a grin in my face. Truly, this game made me FEEL like I was a cat. I loved it!

I love that you enjoyed the sound effects, it was fun making them. (I think it took 5-7 tries to get the 3 clean takes without giggling!) I want to add some 'vroooooooooommmmmmm' noises for sprinting too because I make them when I play every time!

I am so happy that you enjoyed it! You earned your promotion!

Never thought of this but using a cat as "weapon" is just a stroke of genius! The graphic is good, the cat is cute, gameplay is fun too. Nicely done!

If I had to pick something to critique, I would point out that the staff fixing stuff you just broke really discourage stealth. This system just don't really allow you time to wait or plan properly, and really force you to brute force the level. Also the mad dash at the end of each level is a bit hard too, especially the cat had stamina and can't really run away from the managers.

But other than that, the game is very nice! Well done!

Developer

I want to counter that you do have to plan your 'attack' of the office out. I found the best method is to do the far away tasks first and then the closest ones at the end so you don't have to dash nearly as far. I will admit that maybe having a visual cue to how long until something is fixed could help with this. A trick I have found with running from the managers is to hide on the desks, they cant get you if you are on a desk :3

I LOVED THE INTERPRETATION OF THE THEME AND USING A CUTE CAT AS THE WEAPON OF A BANAL OFFICE ENVIRONMENT. ITS FUN TO EXPLORE THE SCENE AND Y'ALL DID A GREAT JOB MAKING THE OFFICE FEEL ALIVE WITH HOW MANY MOVING CHARACTERS AND INTERACTABLE ELEMENTS EXISTED. IF YOU WANTED TO ITERATE FURTHER, I WOULD WORK ON INCREASING THE READABILITY OF THE GLOW EFFECT ON SOME OF THE INTERACTABLE ELEMENTS AS I FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO SCAN THE SCREEN FOR MY OBJECTIVES IN THE FIELD. I ALSO SKIPPED THE OPENING CUTSCENE AND STRUGGLED TO LOCATE MY CHARACTER FOR HALF A SECOND. FUN!

Developer

Thank you for your kind suggestions! I didn't think about helping players that don't see the cutscene find their character. Thank you for your kind words <3

Fantastic game, feels incredibly fleshed out! Those supervisors really hate cats, just let the poor cat spill trash if they want. Great job all!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!!

The supervisors just want a clean office, in my mind they don't actually hate the cat.

Love the art style so much! I didn't get a promotion (yet)... I got all 3 bins, was prompted to return to my bed and two supervisors (seemed to) got stuck in my way. I think they got stuck in each other's path but I'm not really sure.

Developer

Navigation for NPCs have been my sticky point but I am hoping to iron out these bugs by the deadline. ^^; Thank you for your kind words. I hope you get your promotion to Cat-astrophe Manager soon!

Great idea, well executed.

The GDD has a lot of empty space, perhaps either fill out sections with more info OR just make your headers smaller.

Developer

Thank you! I have updated my GDD with your suggestion! Thank you for it!
