It's a very unique interpretation of the theme, and I really love the visual design of the menus!
With that said, it doesn't really feel like... a game. I guess it technically is, in the sense that solving randomly generated mazes is a game. But there's no mechanics to master really, just searching through files with no rhyme or reason.
I think there's something here to build off of, but you'll need to find something more interesting than clicking folders & typing numbers to play with.
I like the concept (although I had to ask a friend about the echo linux command), but overall I think you were too worried about making the game fit its idea rather than making it fun. It almost feels like a data entry job to play. Perhaps it would have been more enjoyable if there were mechanics that made the game more difficult or rewarding
Very original concept with a very good and unique take on the theme, my biggest issue like many have said is sadly the gameplay. I fully understand that due to life and personal reasons the game didn't turn out as expected, which I can cut some slack for; however, based on other jam submissions, I must be fair.
Personally, the gameplay was boring. I wish some more gameplay/mini-games came into the picture to help spice it up more. Additionally, I felt the game lacked any story or lore, which is a shame because this game 100% seems like something that would contain some intriguing story. It would have added depth and engagement to the experience.
Moreover, the absence of any music or sounds felt very... odd? I don't know how to describe it, but it left the game feeling empty, in my opinion.
Overall, this game has potential. I highly encourage you, if you can, to work on this as a full-fledged project since I can see the foundation for something unique and fun. However, as it currently stands, it falls short in terms of providing an engaging experience. I apologize if I sound harsh; I'm simply being honest.
I hope whatever is going on personally, life-wise gets sorted out! I wish you the best of luck for your future works!
Appreciate the unique take on the theme as others have mentioned, but game design is super boring for me, sorry. Had to leave the game after two inputs.
The idea of echo command is really unique on tha game jam. But this gameplay was too boring for me.
The idea of echo command is really unique on that game jam. But this gameplay was too boring for me.
I see potensial in this concept. I was rooting for more information to scroll trough, understand a back story and find some loopholes to dig further into the story. Great framework, but as it stands It's kind of like typing in your personal ID number to login to public services. :)
The game doesn't have music or sounds, this type of games benefit from a story or lore, maybe some mini games other than input numbers would be good.
The interpretation of the theme is amazing, such a unique idea to do and I think the concept is really good. The idea of a game taking place in a file system is really good.
Think my main issue is that it needs to have some goal to work towards such as trying to open files as quickly as possible. Maybe adding in some elements to further emulate an OS would be good too, like moving around windows and creating files. Lots of potential here!
That's a shame this game wasn't able to be realized within the timespan of the game jam, echo as a terminal command is a unique interpretation of the theme that I haven't seen anyone else mention yet.
thanks i was worried it was too much of a stretch
