Good visuals, good sounds, and a good gameplay loop. It is one of my favorite games I have played in this jam, and there is so much you can do with it after the jam. It feels like this game will work great as a roguelike strategy game.

Developer

Awesome! I'm glad you had fun with it. I wanted to expand on it more but I also wanted to keep it simple so that it could be played and tested in under 10 minutes. Thanks for the review!

Of course, you only have so much time in a game jam, and you want to have enough time to test and polish your game.

I love the visual style you chose for this submission, although it was kind of hard to play with only a 13 framerate. All of my inputs would happen a few moments after I had pushed the buttons which made the game have a weird feel to it. I do think the concept is good though and your execution of your ideas was also very good. This isa good submission especially for a first game

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not sure whats causing performance issues for some people. I'm planning on changing off of doing eveything in a java framework to using Godot so hopefully my next jams are more performant. Thanks for your feedback!

There's a lot to love about this game! I love the music, art style, and gameplay in general. However I did find the game pretty laggy and a bit confusing at first. But great work!

I'll do my best to add some kind of tutorial to my next Jams, thanks for the feedback!

This game has a lovely game loop and has a lot of potential. You could add insects house to make the flowers grow each days (upgrade each day their power if they survived the night), or maybe flowers which attract the slims (would allow to create routes to concentrate efforts), or maybe pay a lot to repair the house. I would love the concept to go a step further with banning money and using only seeds gathered from the flowers you planted and stems to repair the house (sacrifice plants or a huge amount of energy).

Yeah! Thanks for the feedback. I had a 101 more ideas on how to iterate on the game but I really wanted to keep scope smaller for the Jam.

Depending on how well it does I might remake it properly and implement some of these features more thoroughly

Very cool music and graphics! Ended up homeless because of the slimes ahah :)

Developer

Thanks for playing, I hope you managed to get a farm going before the slimes overran you.

You welcome!

Fun game, a bit laggy but that could just be me.

Developer

I did have some friends say that there were some performance issues but I was unable to replicate, the whole codebase is super hacked together so I'll do my best to better optimize for the next one. Thanks for the feedback anwyay.

I like it :)

Having different slimes with more predictable paths would be cool, like thin blue slimes that charged up for a line attack or fat slow slimes that moved like a knight in chess or perhaps jumped over squares etc.

I think I'd prefer it so you can hold down the wasd keys to move as after a while i got tired spamming the keys to move each tile haha.

I think it's a pretty cool idea and one that could be built up on. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! That would be the natural progression of things. I also wanted to ability to dig up you flowers in case you misplaced or wanted more space and to add more flower types and the ability to maybe upgrade them. That all got slashed in favor of bug fixing and just making sure it was ready.

Could also add a more natural progression with the ability to cut down some of the forest tiles to make more farming space.

But those are some great recommendations, thanks!

Ooo yes, I like the idea of cutting back the forest or like digging up obstacles etc to reveal things or gain more space etc. And yeah, never enough time to add everything in a jam haha main thing is getting something finished and getting it out there! :D

Game feeling good but cant really kill those slime on skill because they're moving super random, Considering that this game was made from scratch Very Very Great Job

The bloom effect added alot to the artstyle, it's very nice to look at!

I like the balance of sleep vs energy and buying seeds, if this was to be balanced more you would get an addicting loop.

There's abit of an issue with the visibility of which seeds you have selected, as well as general performance but once you get used to it it's not a problem because of the nature of the game.

Developer

Thanks, I tried to make sure that the gameplay loop is fun but I didn't want to make it too hard to get into if a general strategy is not obvious to a first time player.

Didn't want people to be put off it it was balanced to a T but only for people know know what to do.

The difficulty does scale infinitely so I figured that surviving for as long as possible let's people who are more or less comfortable still push it to its limits.

Thanks for the feedback!
