I think after the first cycle you could have added a bunch of new UI elements like a counter for blocks remaining, the sequence of next blocks, and all that. I also had some issues with inconsistent jump heights, where at some levels I could ascend 3 blocks worth but at other parts I couldn't, which made it a little tricky to do level 2. Also I always had trouble placing blocks high up in level 2 because rotations against the wall don't work right.

Great concept though, and would be fun to see it expanded, perhaps with levels that already start with blocks where you have to use line clears as part of the solution.

Fun "easter egg": after beating level 2, you can jump out the side of the level.

Developer

Thanks so much for the awesome feedback. Also love the idea of starting a level with blocks you have to clear to finish! And uhh.. yeah that was a totally planned "easter egg" lol

Great game, I was surprised when it turned into first person platformer. Cool original idea for a game.

Developer

Thanks for the play! :D

"ThAt'S JuSt TeTrIs" - But wait, there is more!
That's some high class originality! :)

Developer

Ayy thanks for giving it a play! :D

Huh, you got me. I really like that the game doesn't tell you about the twist on your first time around. The best moment in any game I've played in the jam so far! Very good job :)

While I would personally keep the suprise of the twist, once you complete the first "tetris" bit, some communication about the dark/light bits of the blocks would have gone a long way.

Developer

We really did go back and forth on what to kind of reveal at first, but adding an explanation after restarting once or by level 2 WOULD be a solid idea. Thanks for playing and giving feedback!

Truly an original idea, Tetris with a twist!
Jumping needs to be more consistent, was unable to rotate against walls, and block control wasn't as responsive higher on the tower.

Developer

Both Tenfold and I are pretty new to game dev and about halfway through the first night of the jam, it fully dawned on us that we have to make a game (Tetris) to make this game. Kudos to Tenfold's coding wizardry though! Lol. Thanks for the feedback. :D

Second level was really hard to beat, i think i won, but level didn't end then. Are there more lvls than 2 here?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

nope, you got it! Only 2 for the jam. Really wanted to add more but the whole thing took longer than we hoped 😅

Maybe some more polishing and levels to come in the future though since people seem to enjoy it!

Thanks for playing :)

Great submission you guys! As Blob already said, I think it would be a good idea to hint to the player that only the saturated bits are solid in the 3D world (it took me longer to figure out than I'd like to admit haha).

Also, a way to restart only the 3D run would be nice, since I sometimes dropped down and couldnt get back up, although I had built the right solution of the level. And also there are ways of cheesing the levels by abusing that one bug where you can still move blocks shortly after they are meant to be placed down.

Awesome job overall!

thanks for giving it a play and leaving some feedback! Yeah in retrospect we should have thought a bit harder about the experience that a new player might have coming in. It was meant as a treat to figure out, but I agree that I don't think we left enough clues into how the mechanics worked between the two phases of play.  Oh and about the cheesing... that's... a... uhh... a feature ;)

Great game. Took me a while to figure out that only the dark colored parts of the blocks were what would be solid, and took me a while to figure out how to beat the levels.

One suggestion would be to have an instant drop and a slow drop like how most tetris games do. Sometimes i would want to drop the block to a certain point so i can slot it in somewhere, but the S key pretty much always brings it straight down to the floor wherever it is. Great submission!

Developer

That was definitely something we wanted to implement but just didn't have time. Good ol' feature creep. Lol. Thanks for the review!

This was super fun to play and try to find the solution to the levels. The twist definitely caught me off guard

Developer

Super glad you enjoyed it!

Very cool game (and it was not a tetris clone!)

Developer

That's the beauty of it, it's not even a tetris clone! lol thanks for the review!

You should give an indication of what your game is about. I almost quit, thinking it was a Tetris clone. In reality, the concept of creating your own path is quite innovative but difficult to implement. Plus, if you make a mistake, you have to start all over again. I was also unsure about the color of the blocks.

Thank you for creating this game.I liked testing it^^

Developer

We waffled back and forth on this a bit, we settled on wanting to play with people's expectations a bit so leaving it mysterious, ultimately I think you're right though!

Thanks for taking a look and giving us a reply.. Glad you didn't quit right away and got to enjoy the fun part! :)

I genuinely thought it was a Tetris clone. I was so confused for a second XD It was very well executed and had nice smooth controls.  I enjoyed it a lot.

Developer

Thanks for checking it out and leaving some feedback!

thanks! :D

What a twist man!

Previously I played with tetris and escape room ideas mix too (Blocklet in my profile) and can tell you have moved on )

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the play man! I checked out Blocklet and I really dig it! Splitting between playing Tetris but also playing a platformer is an awesome idea.

Thanks, I'm kinda proud of it )
