Title
The Temple of Abeyance
Description
I made an orchestral track with sounds from libraries. On top of that I placed some sound design made by me, (voices, chimes, noises). The bass is a distorted sinewave that modulates over time.
For the percussive parts, I used samples for the sounds, but the rhythmic patterns are made by me.
For the chord progression challenge, I tried not to really think of a group of chords but more like "what chord do I need next to get to this point of the story?". In fact, I tried not to stick to a specific scale for more than 2-3 bars.
What the track is about:
Everything is suspended in this mysterious temple. Just like it floats in the sky, apparently unaffected by gravity, so it is unaffected by the passing of time and the influence of other forces that govern the universe. Its dwellers, the Lords of Equality, - eternal creatures, devoid of any vice and personal judgment - are responsible for keeping balance in the universe.
But the temple is starting to show the marks of time, the Lords of Equality are slowly decaying, and they begin to develop feelings of grudge for the unfair events and entities that populate the universe, thus losing their purity and affecting the balance of the universe.
The lord of Abeyance, the major and most humble of its kind, is responsible for keeping balance within the temple itself, and is determined to discover the cause of disequilibrium.
The lord will have to face convoluted enigmas, puzzles whose solution goes beyond the understanding of human thinking, all moving through environments that challenge the laws of physics that humans are familiar with.
The game takes the shape of a 3D puzzle game, in the style of portal, in which the player impersonates the lord of Abeyance to overcome these challenges and restore balance in the universe.
Plugins used
I used Spitfire Audio free plugins: "Labs" and "BBC Symphony orchestra".
Everything else is Ableton stock plugins and some Max 4 Live plugins for the sound design part (Granulator, Convolution Reverb etc.)

I recognized the BBC harp immediately lol.
Great mix of synth-like sounds and orchestra, it's something I want to experiement with as well. Some "stronger" percussion could have helped maybe but that's probably just my style.
I have the same thought of Not a vibing cat, reminded me of C418. I like the vibe of the temple. good job.
Thank you for listening! I'll listen to more C418, that's giving me some inspiration now that he's been mentioned :D
Really like the combination of orchestral music with synthesizers, some parts remembered me of C418. One small issue, for me at least, is that sounds that go quickly from left and right can be a bit tiring for the listener.
Thanks for listening! I totally agree with the panning issue, I should improve that. I didn't know C418, but I'm listening now. It's true! The atmosphere is pretty similar in certain parts, although my compositions are not nearly as good as that :D
Great job on the sound design.
It's worth listening to your creation with headphones to enjoy the stereo.
Personally, I found some of the sounds too extreme in terms of panning. It sometimes lacked left-right balance and/or harmonic coherence with the orchestral composition (and some sounds were a little loud).
Whereas your voice was put into Ping Ping delay with less extreme panning. It tied in better with the whole.
I loved the rhythm and groove initiated by the timpani from 1'50" onwards.
Overall, it's very good. All these sounds and your voice make the atmosphere unique and I really liked it.
Thanks for the very detailed feedback! For the sound design, I used a generative approach, which is a powerful beast but hard to tame, and I'm still new to it. I totally agree with what you said, I didn't put enough care in keeping the sound design into intentional boundaries, so I will do my best to improve that!
That was powerful, I like the atmosphere a lot. Great work!
Thank you for listening!
Your sound has really improved since the last jam man. Good samples make a huge difference in composition. 5/5
Hearing that I've improved is the best compliment I could hope for. Thank you so much!
Really nice vibe.
Thanks for listening!
The description with the music makes complete sense, I can feel myself there! Wonderful composition and a great job adding that otherworldly vibe to make it feel familiar but incredibly unique, it really pushes the transportation! Well done, beautiful track!
Thank you for listening and commenting! I'm glad that the otherwordly sounds turned out good :D
