The overall aesthetic is very great, but I see you’re using a pack.

The gameplay is cool and fits the theme but could use some tuning. A longer attack range or more reactivity would be awesome! Right now, it’s a bit painful to attack, and dodge immediately to not take damage. Not being able to hit up or down is a bit of a problem imo.

Overall pretty great, congrats for your entry!

The games artwork looks fantastic! But I agree with the other comments that the gameplay isn't standout. I feel like if you increase the range of the player's attack and the speed it could go a long way. Other than that, this game is really cute and the upgrade system is nice!

Love the animations and art style on this one, gameplay was ok nothing 2 hard, wish there was another enemy (mby a ranged one) so it wasn't always the same dodging attacking, but it was still a really good cute game.

Developer (1 edit)

thank you!, yes i thought about that but got no time to add new enemy during the jam i’ll try to update the game after the jam.

This is very cute! I love the art and sound. The cooldown on the attack felt really long and I had trouble timing it with enemy attacks. You could maybe keep the length if there was some indication as to when the sword was ready again

This has a really well refined pixel aesthetic that's impossible not to love. Character controller is perfectly drifty and combat effects are nice and crunchy. Love the music, too.

A way to block or dodge would be a welcome feature, but is otherwise plenty enjoyable.

Very well done, and good luck! :D

Developer

thank you for the feedback, actually there is a dodge button its “k” it gives you invincibility for the whole frame to help avoid stun-locks.

Loved how this game looked. Unfortunately, the gameplay isn't my favorite. As it is now, as long as you get the first hit on a skeleton you can just stunlock them by hitting them over and over. If you miss the first hit and they hit you first, you need to get away before they hit you again or you'll be stunlocked in the same way. Since the enemies don't attack you in groups, you can just fight one at a time and there is never really any danger. Even if they kind of group up, they'll wait in line until their turn to get killed. Since you can stunlock them, the damage of your sword doesn't really matter. It's no more difficult to hit them 10 times than it is to hit them once since the only hit that really matters is the first one. The speed upgrade also seems pretty useless since you'll mostly be standing in place spamming attack anyway. Because of all this, there isn't much dodging in the game. Would have liked to see more enemy types that force me to dodge more often. But, it's a good start to a game and could be really fun with some balancing. Well done. Thanks for making it!

Developer

thank you for the feedback!, i’ll try to work on the enemies to attack in groups and try to surround the player, will definitely add more enemy types.

Nice game.

1,It takes a while for the sword to hit a enemy.

2, The only enemy is a skeleton, maybe adding more enemies like a shooter, bomber, or a trap might make the game better.

3, I think the game is more about attacking then dodging.

Other then that, Simple and challenging game.

Developer
  1. i intended to do that actually so the swing will need to be timed just like the enemies do there is a mechanic where if you swung first you can cancel the opposition attack animation and if you swung late you’re the one getting hurt.

  2. yeah that’s what i’m thinking too, planned to have some shooters too but got lost just fixing every goddamn bug i saw.

  3. i agree since i haven’t added the shooter enemy it dodging becomes a tool to survive rather than the main mechanic of the game.

thanks for the feedback!

Nice one. Of the most submissions I've played so far (around 40 or so), this game felt the most complete to me. Good gamification, nice audio, good art, fits the theme well, and the game also looks fun.

thank you for the feedback!

Pixel art is amazing! Mechanics is great! A player should know when to attack and when to dodge and the mechanics fit just right for this! :D
