Good game! The art is really good. The difficulty could use soe changes, but otherwise great game. But unfortunately  I didn't see or understand the theme "climbing", I would appreciate if you would reply in a brief explanation.

Developer

Some of the enemies climb up the pole, which is a common way to help bring the pole down in the real bo-taoshi. Originally, the climbers were the only enemy type, but the game wasn't interesting enough with only climbers, so we later decided to add the kickers for some variety. I feel this decision made it a better game, although it meant sacrificing some of the game's connection to the theme. Thanks for playing!

Thank you for the explanation.

Interesting idea and nice art

Really difficult, especially when the bird would fly by

I know exactly the reference about bo-taoshi! I felt it was an interesting concept for a game :)
Dash mechanics feels a bit hard to control. Otherwise I really like the atmosphere. Good game.

I'm really loving the music and theme with this one! Although the gameplay is a bit tough, I think its perfect for score chasing and mastery. Maybe decreasing the cooldown between dashes could help give more control to the movement. Overall a fun game!

Really great idea. A little bit hard. But well done!

I discovered this crazy sport not a long time ago online.  That is great idea to use it for the theme of the jam. I like the art and the music. But it was too difficult for me.

I loved the concept and the music is amazing.

the game concept is good, sound is good and loved the graphics. We have quite similar concept but different approach on execution.

I love this take on the theme! It looks and sounds good also. However I found it extremely difficult, maybe i'm just missing something about the gameplay, I'm not quite sure how to use the dash effectively.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! A lot of folks seem to be struggling with the dash, so I've now added some info to the description about how it works.

Okay now this one is really awesome. It was hard but a super unique take and I loved the visuals and animations. Outstanding job.

Very nice game! I think it's a pretty good idea and it was fun trying to keep the balance. I struggled to use the dash at first but once you understand it's really good. I really like the background art with the clouds.

Good job, keep creating games!

I really like the music and art style of this game! But balance games can be hard to... well, balance. Maybe you were trying to go for a quicker game session, but you basically have to be on the edge of the platform when someone kicks it or the game's over (and even then, you'll be falling in the likely event that someone is climbing the pole when you're standing at the edge).

There might be something I'm missing in terms of gameplay, like some strategy involving the dash. It was a fun play, but with a bit of fine-tuning to make it feel a little less punishing (or even an "easy" mode), this game has the potential to be addictive!

Oh, and my best record was just under 16 seconds.

I found the aesthetic and music very charming-- but it took me quite a while to get above a 15 second score! :)

I love this style, can you export a web browser build from godot? Really nice and short game, you need a lot of luck to get a good time, here's mine:

I was under the impression that the way I saved scores wouldn't work in the browser, but I tried it out and it works fine! There is now a playable web build. Your high score won't persist across sessions if you have cookies disabled, though.
