The overall mechanics were really well executed! Is true it might require some polish as some have mentioned, but I found it very creative! The whole mechanic of closing your eyes to detect or feel the creatures made it scarier and more interesting!

The sound design was also very well executed the ill chime was unnerving!

 Suggestions:

-Clearer to read text for the story I think would help a lot to service the story

-The tutorial could explain a bit more the details of the closing eyes mechanic

Overall, a very fun project!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yea the text was a little hard to read, maybe a higher resolution for just the font would help without having to change the resolution of the whole game. And the learning curve could be improved for sure, for most jam games I just put a static image explaining controls and mechanics but a better tutorial could be integrated into the game, ideally through dialogue or environmental indicators.

The closing eyes mechanic was unique and a cool concept. However, I closed my eyes for most of my run except briefly to read notes. If there was more incentive to keep your eyes open as much as possible that would help, plus it would be more challenging to the player. Sound design was excellent and the grayscale graphics were eerie and cool. Overall a promising concept that I really want to see fleshed out :)

Developer

Thank you! Yea the initial thought was that looking for notes would be enough incentive but clearly that needs some work. When playtesting I even found myself spamming C to see the world and Them at the same time, which obviously isn't the point haha. Maybe I'll do some updates in the future... (P.S. I really liked your game!)

I really loved the concept of the close eye mechanic the only complaint I have is there wasnt much of a hint of where enemies were without closing ur eyes so I found myself walking with my eyes closed most the time and missing out on the world and assets.

that being said the mechanic is a very cool and interesting twist on this kind of game. I'd really love to learn more about the world as I started getting more and more invested as the game went on with all the notes scattered around. I really loved the fact that even in a small build like this you added multiple endings letting players choose what path they wanted to to choose.

With more time dumped into this game I really think it could become something amazing great work all around :D

Thanks! Really glad to hear that the world building was successful to some degree, horror mystery is very interesting to me because it's slow but the supense builds up longer and the reveal is usually more impactful (and brings up even more questions). Would love to expand on The Town more in the future. Appreciate the feedback :)

I'd love to see how you build on this in the future, amazing game :D

The closing eyes mechanic is a very cool idea. And the sound design is great. I also really love hte minimalist pixel art. I did need to squint to read the final screen XD but it wasn't that big of a deal

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Not my finest font haha, would probably update that in a future version. I'll let my sound person know you liked their work.

The mechanic is really great, I like it a lot. There is lot of potential in developing that mechanic even further too. Overall I think the game is smooth, the graphics and sound fit well together creating solid style for the game. I think my only problem is that at points the minimal pixel font was hard to read, but that is a nitpick if any. Good work ^^

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the font could use some improvement, one of the more difficult assets to make on such a small pixel scale.

Great idea with the listening mechanic! The animation and sounds go well together.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I did animations and my friend did sound design, glad to hear it meshed well together despite being content from two different people.

The closing your eyes mechanic is a really neat idea. I feel you could do a lot more with it. The monsters were kinda quick to catch me though. I'm not sure if there was an ending so I just read every note I could find. The art, while simple, was still aesthetically pleasing.

Overall pretty cool game.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah this was really meant to be a demo of the mechanic, would like to expand on the idea in the future, potentially in the form of puzzles. There are two endings hinted at in the notes...

Sacrificing your ability to see the world in order to sense where enemies are is a really clever idea, I like it, and the sound was top notch

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Much appreciated. I found your game to have a very clever concept as well.

Really liked the concept of having to hear (I actually worked on something similar hehe), awesome sound design!

Developer

Thanks! I thought it would be an interesting mechanic. Your Scream Jam game or another game you've worked on also uses hearing? Either way I'd like to check it out!

Submitted

The scream Jam one, it's actually the one mechanic which consumed 3/4 of the Jam length due to it's difficulty to code so I couldn't really polish anything else, hehe. and once again, great game!

Developer

Gotcha, I'll make a point to play it! Yeah this is one of the shortest jams I've done and there wasn't much time for polish so I feel that.

I thought the sound for ths game was really great. And the pixel art animation was really good. It very readable in terms of what I was doing. I'm not 100% sure if I finished the game. I was walking around looking for paper and I found a note to go to the eastern road. I left because I thought that was the goal but the ending made it seem like there was more I missed so maybe I missed something. Not sure but overall, I thought the execution was good!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! I'll pass the compliments on to the sound design folks :)  There are two different endings, both of which are hinted at in notes (although they both involve walking into something, for instance the eastern road as you stated, which I understand isn't super clear).
