Thanks to all who gave feedback on the game! It was fun to hear your thoughts and opinions as well as to see your critique. I'm planning to return to development soon-ish and see how I can improve and expand the game a little. ^^

This was my first jam I have participated in and I honestly wouldn't have asked for a better one. Sorry all who had to read the wall of text I left on your games tho lol :P

If i understand well, pressing space will change the reality you are.

There are 5 realitys:

- Normal:  There are trees in the way

- Snowing: Best reality, not in your way and nothing chasing you.

- Black wall: There is a wall behind you preventing you from coming back

- Dark world: A creature will folowing you

- Hollow world: There is something following you with a bell, after some time you dies

Each time you change reality, the longer it takes for you to be able to switch again.

Right on the point, you summarized the mechanics better than I ever could lol.

This game was so cool! The biggest standouts here were the aesthetics and the unique mechanics. The hand drawn art, combined with lighting and post-processing, worked so well and created an awesome vibe. I also enjoyed how seamlessly it transitioned aesthetics when pressing "space".

The only critiques I can offer are mostly just personal preference. I would say it could be fun to have a faster paced version of the game. Where the character moves faster and all the events require quicker thinking. In which case, it'd be nice to have the character controller be more responsive (without acceleration to max walk speed). But again, just personal preference.

Really awesome submission. Definitely got a 5 in aesthetics and did well in all other categories! :)

I didn't expect a game like this in this jam, it completely exceeded all my expectations, incredible setting, the art is very good, I don't quite understand how to use the ability to change the environment, but it's great

Wow.

The atmosphere was really unnerving and I had no clue where I'd end up after pressing spacebar. It was suspenseful, it was uncomfortable - and that's the point! I loved the playthrough. I managed to get to the end on my 4th try (one death to the chasing wraith, two to the statue - I had to figure out what killed me :D)

I really liked how each of my runs was a bit different since I tried approaching the pathways different ways. The concept could definetely be expanded - the artwork's AMAZING, the mechanics are obvious after a certain point, but adding something like a world which lets you pass but spawns a creature in the distance that you can't approach OR a world that lets you pass one way, while blocking the other - would make a great spooky puzzle!

Sound design - on point. Creepy jingle when the wraith was approaching, church bells when the statue reminded me that my demise is close, deafening static when I had to make my way through the pathway.

Overall, it was amazing. I think the only thing that confused me was the 'use sparingly' thing.
In fact, I could NOT use it sparingly as the bell statue thing snuffed me out twice as a result :D

I'd love to see where you could push that concept. Great entry!

Developer

Thank you so much! The "use sparingly" was just me trying to somehow warn players of limit-mechanic I did to using space. Each time you use it, the cooldown gets a bit longer, which is to try and make the spamming of space a bit more discouraged. It's a mechanic I didn't get to test much and right now there is no indicator so I doubt any players even notice it, hehe. It was a last minute addition, so testing was on the surface level.  And looking back, that wording might have been misleading too hehe :D

Since I'm planning on doing little more with this game I'm probably going to make some sort of indicator for when the player can use "space" and when they cannot, along with other balancing work for the overall difficulty. But regardless, glad to hear your feedback! ^^

Excellent game, very original and the drawing is on point. Lasted exactly the right amount of time to not entirely get used to the mechanics.

You never know where you will land when pressing spacebar and this randomness is what makes this experience so special, congratulations

I really liked the art style and the gameplay! The game was challenging at first, but trying it a few times made me comfortable with the mechanic. This can easily become a great game in the future. Nice entry! πŸ‘πŸ»

really liked the 2.5d aesthetics, a bit confusing on some of the different "worlds" and what they do but i was able to figure them out pretty easily, maybe just a bit more info on the statue holding the bell (What i think it does is kills you if you stay in that "world" for too long). i liked that the beginning room you say that 'space' should be used sparingly which made me think about when i should use it but i realised that it didn't really matter and that i had too use space alot more to survive.

Really confusing at first on whats happening and how I'm meant to play. After I got the hang of it, it was genuinely fun to play. A larger style game like this with more areas would be sick.

I don't think you needed to limit the warps, maybe just give a cooldown or make the individual areas harders to survive in for long or something.

The art was of course really cool and the different areas were neat too. Going from static to a super calm sun lit region with a creepy statue that kills you just feels really unnerving.

Overall a really creative entry.

Amazing game! I really enjoyed the atmosphere,  game mechanic and character design. Definitely one of the best out here!

Wow that is seriously amazing. That was one of the most original takes I've seen so far I loved everything!

Ok so for feedback, The walking part of the game got stale after a while which ended up making everything else start to feel more stale as I found myself paying more attention to the art and everything around me rather than the gameplay.

I think something you could do to spice it up (obviously I understand we only had so much time and this is amazing for the time allotted) would be to add a story and other things going on between just running such as cut scenes, fighting, etc. Obviously only if youre planning on continuing this project but I really loved what you came up with already and I seriously think you could make this into something even more amazing.

I seriously love the warping mechanic and how you cant spam it so you have to actually be careful with how you use it.

And on top of all that the music and art were amazing. I just started getting into art and I'm very envious that you can create such amazing 2d art!

Overall though I really really enjoyed this game and I can't wait to see what you turn this into and all of your future work :D

Loved the ambience and the artwork. Especially the spooky woman in the background.

The game design was super creative! The whole aspect of switching realities like channels and being the main mechanism for solving the problems in the world is fascinating! I could see this prototype being expanded into a full-blown experience, I was intrigued by the world and would have loved to see more of it!

Submitted(+1)

Wow, this prototype is a masterpiece!
I really loved this, so much!
The only thing that wasn't great are the mechanics that I struggled a little to learn, but after that everything looks perfect to me!
Congrats!

Nice one. I liked the graphics.

Submitted(+1)

Really like the art and the way camera moves. Also quite unique idea for the gameplay. Well done.

Submitted(+1)

Great visuals! I love the drawing of the woman in the background.

Submitted(+1)

I love, love, love the art –not only the illustrations but the 2.D style as a whole. It's really immersive. The channel-hopping mechanic is very unique, not very intuitive but easy enough to figure out through trial and error. Some people don't like that but it's fine by me. :)

Submitted(+1)

This looks very good, only thing is it's a little hard to understand what space does at the start so try to explain it to the player. The art and feel of the game are very smooth which is good. Also, one more thing, disable the player's ability to use the abilities once they are dead, not sure if its a bug or something that is implemented.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! But could you clarify a little about disabling the player's abilities on death? From my testing right now and during development once the death animation starts you cannot use the ability anymore (it only plays the sound effect for when you cannot use your ability). There might be an bug but I cannot replicate it, and I would like to fix it ^^ Thank you again though.

Submitted(+1)

Wow. Everything about this one is great. The sound design is great, the art style is great. the concept is great, you did a great job.
