got to a point where i wasn't sure how to continue, or if the game was secretly over, so i spent way too long walking into the darkness lol. really cool atmosphere tho, and the simplicity of the loop made it extra creepy!

Exquisite! This is what being woken up by a phone feels like. Every time.
Great game! I liked the sprites and overall artwork. Those paintings made me laugh. Considering that this is your first game and was made in less than a day I am really impressed. Good luck. Great entry ππ»
Really liked the pixel art is one of the parts that popped up to me right from the start! The sound was minimalistic but good in this case. I was wanting to learn more about the character and the scenario but overall it was a good entry!
Suggestions:
-Black boxes for text with white text would probably make the text pop out even more, since the white takes away from the ambience.
-A bit more story as to what is happening.
Overall is a pretty good experience and with a bit more polish it would become a lil banger.
Fun premise and I enjoyed the portraits haha. I understand a lot of the design decisions in this game came down to time constraints, but two things I noticed that maybe would be useful in the future:
- There's a lot of parts in the story where SFX could do the job the text did, and probably more effectively
- It uses a lot of the uhh think it's called "WTF artifice" where some of the realism is broken by the protagonist commenting about how surreal the surrealism is.
Would be neat to see what this would've been with the full allotted time!
Collision on some walls is missing and I got it into my head to try and see how long I can walk into the darkness. It was a lot. I spend a lot of time walking back.
Regardless, the idea of looping and things slowly changing is a goodie, and in this game it was used good, I loved how the door changed in each point. The art style is also quite charming, love that minimal-kind of pixel graphics! And I got a laugh out of the paintings, great job. I think expanding on what you can interact with could be neat addition to bring some story building and maybe even more horror aspects. And I would have loved if you went even further with the looping, letting the story build up more, but of course the time constraint might have been limiting what you did so far, so that's understandable. I think with some bug fixing and adding some small things you could really easily get this game to be a really tense experience for a player, and that's why I hope you develop it further ^^ Good work for now, I had fun playing it!
Oh and adding: I might have soft-locked the game in the end, or broken it completely? I don't know if it was intended to be this way, but at the end I ran away from the spoiler(?) activating one text box in the begging of the room and thus the chaser just ran past me and nothing happened after that. Anyways, though I would mention that too lol
I really loved your game it was phenomenal so i'm very excited that I got some feedback from you!
Thank you so much though :D I would have loved to have a much more detailed sort of style on the pixel art but since I joined so late I could really only allotte around 3 hours to work on sprites plus it was my first time ever making pixel art. I really wanted to add this cool swap to a much more detailed first person sort of view when you interacted with an object to add to the horror aspect but with only 12 hours to work on it I didnt had to cut out alot of plans I originally had.
The ending was something I was making around 30 minutes before submission and the game is supposed to crash when she reaches you but the code seemed to break right at the end and I sadly didn't have time to fix it D:
I really appreciate all the feedback you gave and that you enjoyed playing this little experience I put together :D\
Thanks so much for playing!
Heh, thank you, I'm glad it left such an impact for you.
But that's mad impressive for first time pixel art and in such a short time. Time limit is truly a curse and a blessing lol. But you got some fun ideas for it, sad to see you couldn't make them for the deadline. But there is always more time now, and always a next horror game jam! ^^
No problem for the feedback, I love game testing and playing so it's just a pleasure of mine to do so.
at some point I walked off the screen to the right. Not sure if I messed the game up. I tend to do that a lot
The story was pretty neat, reminded me of Groundhog Day except horror. I also liked the subtle changes that happened to the room each time you answer the door. I'm being a little nitpicky with this but the bad grammar took me out of the horror mood a little bit, but it wasn't by much. Those pictures in the background though...hot.
Okay, the paintings on the wall made me gasp when I looked closer :D
Fun little expierience. Great job on the pixel art!
It definetely could make a great longer game if you expanded the story, but as I always tell my teammates... "It's fine for a jam!"
Especially that it's your first time making a game! Good luck and keep going! :)
The loop idea was neat! There's stuff here I really like, the mild changes to each loop, the sprite work itself was pretty good... Like, sure, it's pretty clearly unfinished, but to finish anything remotely good in a week is definitely worthy of praise, yknow?
Frankly, I think the only thing this needs is just more time behind it; for a single day worth of work, this is great!
Thank you so much this means alot :D
I'm pretty happy with what I was able to get done in 12 hours considering it was my first time making a game and first time making pixel art. I definitely would have loved to spend more time on the sprites and story but obviously time didn't allow. But i'm really happy with the experience I gained and I cant wait to start working on future games :D
Aye the paintings were funny ngl x) Would be cool to see a version with the ending
Thank you! the painting were just a last minute funny thing that I added since I ran out of time to create a more detailed environment :(
And yea the current state is supposed to crash once the alternate version of you reaches you but the code ended up not working and I didn't have anytime left to fix it but that was also just a fill in ending I would love and can't wait to work on this further and make it a much more fully fledged working game!
Congrats on making your first game! Atmosphere is nice and I liked the changing environment. The pictures on the wall look awkward with the rest of the pixel art.
pretty cool game. the idea of being in the same area multiple times with slight changes can give a really unsetteling feeling, wich is good. it's a nice touch how every time you start over an object has moved or some objects have rotated slightly or the room changes entiraly. The game did have a lack in sound in my opinion. But the game was made in a very short time frame, so i can't blame you
Overall great game. Keep it upβ₯
Thank you so much I really appreciate the feedback and criticism as it helps me grow.
the unsettling feeling is exactly what I was going for. The game originally was still going to use that element but obviously have much more features that time didn't allow so the game ended up being much more lackluster than I hoped and I didn't have enough time to code audio triggers sadly I was really hoping to add knocking sounds and much more but I hope to continue working on this project and turn it into the full vision I had at the beginning of this :D
It's so sad that the game is unfinished, I was curious about the end haha
The style is very good and like the loop idea! Do you plan to update and finish the game later? Good work!
Thank you so much! I know i sadly ran out of time since i ended up joining the jam so late i had alot more planned for the game but obviously time didnt allow. I'm hoping to treat this as a prototype there was a lot that I sadly didnt have time to implement but I have something in mind that ill start working on very soon that will still be the same concept but alot more detailed since ill be working on it for me rather than for a jam!
