Pretty fun game! It took me a while to notice that my bamboo was overlapping something, once I fixed it I ended with 37500 points. It's quite frantic, and very hard to keep the plants organized with the birds constantly attacking. I think it would be nice if the plants turned red when they're overlapping, and also if the birds took a brief moment before snagging the plants.
Great job!
Thank you so much for the kind words Wootmeister. Yeah, in V 2.0 of the game (we're thinking PicPan II: Electric Bamboo-boogaloo" for the name) we will re-implement and rework how the game let's you know that a piece is not in a valid position. Appreciate your thoughts!
Really solid game - especially for a first time game and first time game jam! Well done guys. Props to your artist too, super cute visuals.
I agree that the game can be punishing, but entirely get that that's the idea you were going for. :)
I don't know if it was just me - but the tutorial/readable at the start seemed to leave the screen kind of quickly without me clicking anything. If it is indeed timed (and not me realising I HAD pressed something!) It would be good to have a click to start motion, for those who are slower at reading or may get distracted between lauch and play.
I can see in comments you mentioned it being a tetris with food type idea, so bringing back the visuals and readables indicating this would really help players!
A little bit of scaleable difficulty would be great too. Just to allow players to ease in and get to grips with the mechanics before those pesky birds ramp up their attack! A handy tip is to get people who know nothing of your game or how to play to play test - really helps you learn balancing, as sometimes as devs you can be really good at your own game through practise and automatically knowing what you should do!
Overall, really enjoyable game and a great base to jump off of when you say you want to continue working on it!
Thanks for jamming with us guys, and congrats on the first game jam!
@Chloe, thank you so much for playing and giving the great feedback.
Future versions of PicPan will have much more variety in mobs (we had 5 planned) better tetris mechanics and tons of things like the scalability you mentioned. In our minds this is a single-note musical piece. While that note is well played and lovely, we have to flesh out the rest of the song.
Thanks again for taking the time and also for putting this whole thing together. Cheers!
Hi Chloe!
The instructions were something I added Sunday morning and the intention was to have them stay up as long as you wanted and then "ready up" but at that point my code was looking like it was written by a sleep deprived cave man with dyslexia
If (screen no go way) {
mash.buttons(a - z) until go way;
} else
CryInCorner();
Sooo a timer ended up happening. Thank you for the feedback!
(Moving the comment in the correct comment section because Iโm a moron! ๐)
Quite hard, but very fun! This is a very nice idea for a game. But slower birds please ๐
If like to point out that I suggested slower birds multiple times ... But Sumo the Sadist said it was fine.
Thank you for your feedback back!

Fun idea! Like other said, I wish the birds were a bit slower... Maybe to maintain the difficulty you could have them start slow and then speed the birds up as the round goes on... I would also add a slight timer to how long it takes for the birds to steal food placed on the blanket, but honestly it's up to you guys as of course that depends on the game you want to make.
I promise... all feedback is being heard.
We're planning on expanding this idea quite a bit. Any thoughts on getting the tetris mechanic to be more prominent?
There are plenty of ways you could go with this... Without changing the base mechanics you could make it so blocks packed tightly together are harder to steal. Or you could make it so when you fill the blanket it gets cleared and you get a reward or score higher. You could also make it so orientation of your food gives you a score bonus, stuff like that. Or you could do all of those, idk. If you were to do those, you'd probably want to make it so you can't stack food on top of one another... That's just off the top of my head tho, so I'm sure you guys will think of something better given time!
REALLY like the "fill in the blanket, get bonus" idea. Lots. Thank you for the feedback!
I really like the tetris with food idea! The gameplay is pretty punishing but the idea has lots of potential.
Thanks Theo!! Appreciate you and Chloe setting up the jam!
I loved how fast paced it was. Having to defend while dragging more food made for great game play. How the scoring works could be more clear, once the blanket was full I was unsure what to do with the extra food. Great work though, super fun.
Hey Firestarter!
Thank you for the feedback! We were deliriously laughing at how fast it was from the bat Sunday morning. The birds were one of the last things added as we got all the other mechanics going and it got quite crazy sooper fast!
Thanks for the comments!
Wow, this game really got the adrenaline pumping!! Super super fun, but as others mentioned, very difficult as well. I think some of the changes you mentioned, like more clear indication of your scoring, and maybe some more sound/particle effects could really kick it next level. I also wish the food stayed for a little longer, sometimes it treads the line between hectic-but-fun and just frustrating. All that to say, however, that the main mechanics here are *super* solid and incredibly well designed, especially for a jam game! Great job!
Thank you very much! On Friday we all agreed fast, hectic, short, kinda like bees buzzing flowers. Really glad you liked it, thanks for the comments!
The main mecanic is so cool, but so haaaard !
Thank you so much for playing! We were going for, well, pandemonium. :)
I think we got that part down ok. Appreciate the feedback. Cheers!
Cool game! I'm not sure I understand how the scoring works. After a point it stopped going up for me and only went down. I had my table absolutely filled with food, but whenever a bird would take some away the score would just go down. Overall, this was a cool take on the theme and I enjoyed playing it. It was really fun once I got the hang of it. Nice work!
Appreciate the feedback. There is technically a tetris-like mechanic involved that (originally) clearly let the player know when food was mis-placed (and not scoring). A very last minute change removed that feedback and now it's not clear anymore. REALLY regret the change. :(
Try again and keep the foods from overlapping, you'll see score go up.
Thanks for playing!!
