Wow, really clever!  I actually did better when I stopped watching the letters so closely and "felt" the beat.  An unusual twist on an uncommon, game type.  I imagined this being taken over by teachers to have science vocab, etc go scrolling by.  I never actually "collected" any words though, at the level's end, even after replaying to make certain I got some.  Still, it was Fun!

Thanks for playing our game and for the feedback!
It was made by two teachers :)

While the drawn graphics really aren't that beautiful, the presentation of the time wizard together with the little animations give it a quirky charm. Thanks for making me smile btw, one seldom encounters voice-acting in a jam game.
On my first playthrough I thought the game was waaay to hard, but I stuck with it and the second time around I almost got a gold medal in every part - really satisfying.
The bach song played only halfway on that second playthrough though, so you guys will have to look into that.
"Collecting" the vocabulary terms is kind of a stretch for collectables...

Developer

Thank you for the feedback!  Yeah it is pretty challenging, next time I would at least make level 1 a little forgiving.   I am going to go back in and fix that bug after the jam.  Thank you for playing!

I think the coolest parts were the intro music and the Time Wizard voice over sequence. Honestly I think it was a solid intro into the game.

I would encourage you two to make a cinematic game that uses those skills.

Sadly, I cannot touch type and I felt BAAD for even trying to play. but when I did hit a note. it sounded really pretty. and I liked that

Thank you so much!  I'm a music teacher who's learning game design to make learning tools for kids.  This one is definitely waaaaaay too hard for that but I wanted to try something crazy for the jam.  If you like the story/voice acting and know someone ages 5-10 who wants to learn music (or just likes silly stuff) I made some free general music games at www.starquestcamp.com  .  That was the first big thing I made but I didn't know how to program so the gameplay is basically just point and click quiz stuff, it's fully animated and voice acted though.  I can't wait to see your next game and the developments on Dropoff if you keep working on it!  Thanks for playing!

That's super zany in the best way. I'm watching a bit of episode one and it's really enjoyable. You should make a youtube series as you are really good at directing these cinematic moments and ideas!

As for Drop Off, I think we'll probably give it some polish. But more importantly we're working on a bigger project Two Timin' Towers
You should def check it out.

Very difficult but for just the theme and implementation alone that was the most fun game I've found this jam.  The music was a blast and even if I only got two words in a level I was still having fun.  Great gob!

Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed it.  I went way overboard with difficulty this time, I'm hoping to eventually go back and make an easier level to ramp it up.   Thank you for playing our game!!!!

Even though it has two levels, I had a blast playing them over and over trying to get a perfect score, it was great! With a little more polish it could be a great game to training your typing. Voice and sounds were great too. You even added everyone's favorite band, The Bootles! Good job!

Developer

Thank you so much!! Hahaha I have Bootlemania! I think it would be a lot of fun to make a full typing game where it teaches you along the way.  I have to learn a bit more about programming first.    Thank you for playing!

Its very hard! But i loved

the feedback for the words collected could be more visible

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback.  I'm going to go and think of a way to better give that info to the player.  Maybe having a current word on top and then it will make a sound when it collects.  Thank you for playing our game!

I love the art style and the music. The idea is also great, but I struggeled in the bach level. It's very hard. I suggest you add some easier levels before this one :)

Submitted

Really love the music and the style a lot. Laughed out loud at the time wizard. Those aspects are really fun!

I don't type well without looking at the keyboard so i couldn't keep up very well, and the first level starts off really easy and suddenly gets much more difficult, definitely too difficult for me.

Maybe it's because i was very bad at the game and couldn't unlock any, but it doesn't look like the collectibles had any mechanical impact. I'm not sure what it could be in this game so i don't blame you though!

I really did like the idea for this game and think that it's very cool. I however think there's an issue with  the game when you decide to replay it. I think it causes the Bach song to play halfway through or something along those lines. I know that many other people have brought this up, but  like to write my reviews before seeing what everybody else commented.

I however did think it was a pretty fun concept, and on the first run, thought it was very cool! I'm sure you are very busy most of the week so the fact that you finished something and got it in that's fun is amazing! Great Job indeed.

Haha as a classical music fan, this is very pleasing to see. I love the music and the visuals, including the whole absurdity of it all plus the voice acting. Good sense of humor.

It's very short, which makes sense for a game jam, so I went to play it twice but the music didn't play anymore, only the keyboard notes. Still though, very enjoyable. I like it.

Please check out my submission if you have the time!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!  It was a lot of fun composing in the different styles.  I have to go back after the jam and find out where that pesky bug is.  Thank you so much for playing and the feedback.  I'll go check out your game now : )!

The sounds played when typing letters are a bit random. I'm guessing they depend on which letters they are, but it would have been fun to be playing music with them. I think I once typed a wrong letter simply because I saw the start of a word and didn't wait to see the end and just guessed, and I can see someone else was having trouble keeping up... Perhaps there could be options for different speeds, or the new letters could show up slightly faster or slower depending on how many untyped characters were already on screen (unless you already have such a system in place and it's just very subtle).

I'm not sure what it would have been like if there were a lot more levels, but when playing games to rate them, it's nice when they're short, so I can get to try more of them. And for the short time it took me to beat it, this one was pretty fun. One nitpick that's probably not gonna affect the score I give the game, but I might as well mention it, I prefer that games show text on screen if they have voice acting, I had turned the audio in my headphones a bit down when playing another game, and quickly had to turn it up to hear what the wizard was saying. Showing the text on screen probably wouldn't have been hard, but I guess you weren't thinking of Beethoven when you made those cutscenes.

Developer

Lol at the Beethoven joke.  Thank you for the advice, I agree totally that I should add subtitles or at least the option for them.  The game unfortunately bugs out sometimes on the browsers because the bug intermittently appears we didn't catch it during the short playtesting we were able to do.  The notes should play out an organ solo in the first level and a guitar solo in the second level.  It's possible they sounded random because of that bug messing it up.  I'm eventually hoping to release a starter level and maybe a harder level after the bootles.  Thank you so much for playing and giving me such helpful feedback!

It is a great game, i would definetively love some more levels, the beatles level was really good.

Feel free to check out my game, it will mean a lot to me

Developer

I'm hoping to add a couple more levels in time. Thank you so much for playing!!!

Great idea and implementation, the introduction got me right on. But for me it was too hard. Maybe a lower difficulty for a Jam would have been better.

Developer

I definitely think your  right and I should have made at least the first level a lot easier.  Thank you for playing our game : )!

Submitted

Maybe an easy mode where you have less different buttons. Like in a game to learn typing. There you start with few different keys and the other keys are added level after level

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the music for this game. The game itself was a lot of fun to play, although it did get very difficult early on. Also, the voice acting was hilarious. Overall, great work on this!

Developer

Thank you so much!!!! It was so fun to compose and voice act this.  I think I'm going to go back and make an easier level so it's not so extreme at the beginning.  Thank you for playing : )!

Submitted(+1)

amazing game, I absolutely loved the Voice Acting

Developer

Hahaha thank you so much.  I had so much fun voicing it!!!

In one word - WOW, this game made me laugh before I smashed my keyboard ;-)

Developer

Hahaha thank you.  The difficulty is super aggro lol.  I will go check out your game right now!

Great concept! Very satisfying when you type everything correctly! I would like to see more animations and effect.

Great entry, well done!

Developer(+1)

We were working right up until 10 minutes before school on the day of the deadline and I didn't get to add everything we planned.   I can't wait to go back after the jam and add in some more polish to this.  Thank you for playing and for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

The time wizard definitely gave me a good chuckle! Great unique concept. I'm a huge OSU fan so you know I had to keep retrying to try and get that perfect score ;) Great work

Developer(+1)

Oh my goodness I've never seen that game.  Thank you  for sharing it, it looks so fun!  I've been so obsessed with music games lately.  Thank you so much for playing our game and for the feedback!
