A beautiful environment and nice story-telling.
The game-mechanic of you movement is also pretty cool and innovative. Just guess without the video I would not have got it^^ Just walked around and wondered why everybody is doing this hand gesture :-D
I also tried to climb this ladder on the right. But even after hours in Population: One, i somehow couldn't go to the top. As i watched the video, saw, that it was just the wrong way. Maybe you could make it a bit more clear or so. Same for the letter-placement at the hand.
Also, like others said already, somehow i felt bit too "small" for my virtual body. And whished there was a way to rotate.
But i enjoyed it all in all, especially the whole mood and soundeffects (e.g. the wind the higher you go). Guess with some polishing and new tasks and so it could become a nice game.
Having walking characters, dialog, voiceovers, climbing mechanics, force push all wrapped in one was pretty cool. I got to the top of the first part and got teleported, and couldn't really find a good path to go after that. So not sure if I actually delivered it. Character was a little tall for me, so was scrunched up. I think there was a tree tied to the VR headset. Also the force push button was a little further out than my reach. (are you like 7ft?) Nice view!
Haha yea I am 6'4" but it should auto-adjust to your height. Their is a walkthrough if you want to just watch and check it out but the tree thing has something to do with unitys terrain system. Thanks for the feedback!
Looks really nice but I was having difficulty with Motion Sickness... :(
Hey David sorry about that it is definitely not the most friendly game to motion sickness.
No worries!
Have you considered using vignette while moving?
Beautiful looking game and a great use case for VR with the scale of everything. I would say the no snap rotation was challenging for me. But enjoyed the journey! Only managed to get so far before getting stuck, would love to see more of this
Thanks! Yea idk what happened to the snap rotation it was working the day before and on the last day it started to glitch out and did not have time to fix it.
I just got a walkthrough up only a minute if you want to check it out.
Unfortunately I had issues figuring out where to go or how to use my powers, so I couldn't proceed very far. (PCVR) But the whole premise seems super interesting and I could see that turning into a full game.
For others testing the game: You can pin the message to the outside of your upper left arm.
It would mean a lot to me if you'd try my game Protocol PAR-C3L as well :)
I will definitely check out Protocol PAR-C3L! If you press the triggers on your controller some icons should pop up and you just hit them with your hands.
Thank you for the info, I'm gonna try again then!
I saw the icons but didn't thought about touching them, rather then mimicing the movement.. typical player moment haha
Very nice looking game! I didn't manage to attach the scroll to my wrist, so I decided to walk further without it. Did it to the middle of the mountain and have no clue how to progress any higher.
Sorry, it should go on your left upper arm. Did not have time to make a tooltip.
I just made a walkthrough if you want to check it out.
I like the initial scene impressive scale and great dialogue. No snap turn is a bit off-putting I am quite used to it. I got a bit lost on where to go but there's a great concept here!
I am glad you like the scale I wanted the mountains to seem large and impassable. Sorry about the snap turn I had a bug with it not working the last day and could not find out why for the life of me.
If you need some help just got a walkthrough if you just want to watch it is only a min.
Climbing, superpowers, logic puzzles. This game is awesome. I has a lot of features. There are some things to fix for the final release ;) The body weight is a bit to low so when I climb it's a bit motion sicky. The game is super hard. I couldn't find a path after climbing the first section in the second level but I was so excited about new superpowers so I cheated and climbed by smashing the ground with my hand (using low body weight) I found a new cool superpower! And awesome ladders puzzles. Unfortunately, I kept falling and gave up. Some checkpoints could be cool. But still an awesome prototype!
I am glad you liked it! I think I need a video tutorial to help people out.
I just love games that experiment with the locomotion system so I really enjoyed this one!
I was expecting motion sickness but it was actually very satisfying and enjoyable to jump around by clenching your fists and pushing your arms down. I think this concept could be even more engaging if integrated with an arm swing mechanic for regular locomotion instead of relying solely on a joystick. Overall, I think it's a cool idea with the potential to become a full-fledged game
Good to hear I tried to have fun movement without too much motion sickness.
My eyes are UP HERE!
lol...
Seriously though, one of the few games with a full VR IK Rig! Fantastic! I had the same visual glitches as the others and also not sure where to go when I got to the top of the path. But I had an issue not being able to turn left and right. Was this done with Hurricane VR? The climbing was smooth and I really liked the sense of scale!
I will post a video guide on how to get though it but the turn was a bug at the end of development and I just could not find the problem. But it was made with my assets OneRig - VR Rig Builder still needs some improvement but it works pretty well. I also made a walkthrough if you want to watch it is only a min.
Ahh I feel your pain on the last minute bugs! We had a last minute bug that didn't kill the player when he falls off our airship and respawn them at the start. Ahh that's part of the fun of gamejams though right?
I really enjoyed the mood of the game. Good job!
Pros
* Concept art
* Story telling
* Level design
Cons
* No snap turn Provider
Bugs
* Tree hovering in the air when looking at rocks
* Character are always kneeing when moving
Other
* Did not know where to go next when climbing between mountain crevice section.
cryten01 thank you for the feedback! Sorry about the snap turn it was a last min bug I did not have time to fix. If you want to just watch the playthrough you go up bouncing off the walls like gorilla tag.
I really like the setting and the mission. But I was unable to figure out how to use the powers of the wind. Also, am I supposed to mail, all the way though or did I miss seeing a pocket to holster?
Glad you like the environment and setting I should have done some playtesting with people for where to place the mail. Can't wait to check out your game! Here is a walkthrough if your interested.
Nice, will definitely revisit it after watching the walkthrough
I really like the concept and the presentation! I would play the crap out of a full game of this. Unfortunately, I was unsure what to do after climbing the first couple of sections of Bear Tooth Path, so I don't feel like I was able to give the game its due playtime. If there was something I missed please let me know! I'd love to beat it!
Hey, zdayscott just got a walkthrough up. There is some of the game left I hope you enjoy flying around. I would like to know how I could improve as a developer so just let me know and can't wait to check out Suburban Scallywags.
