It was a fun experience! :) I liked the combat and the fluid movement and the layout felt good. I think you have the bones of an amazing game and it could really shape up with the addition of some new creatures that have ranged attacks, maybe ghosts that go through buildings, and then some additional functionality with the cauldron.
Some feedback I would give would be to show a score pop up when you interact with the cauldron to really cement in what was happening. I was trying to see if anything was happening to my spells or hell and then noticed it was just score (unless I missed something).
Some minor bugs I did notice were the fireballs collided with each other so it felt a tad bit clunk and if there were still monsters left at the end, and you killed them, it would do another timer and effectively skip levels. I made it to level 25 but I think I was only technically on level 15 or 16. There was a bit of pathfinding problems with the enemies as well and they would get stuck a lot.
Overall it was cool and I ended with this score.
Thank you for writing this! I plan on being a part of a team for the pirate jam coming up and I will definitely have us all practice source control so we are more familiar with it before the jam starts. I'll take a look at the template as well!
I'm looking forward to the 4.3 tile map. I've seen a bunch of videos showcasing it and it looks really amazing, especially for a project like you did!
I didn't realize we upload the project to itch early on either, that was something I've learned, and I think that will be super helpful for future projects. I assumed once it was uploaded it was "done" and I ran into a few problems because of that, haha.
Again, you guys did amazing. I look forward to seeing your future projects!
Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad you had a mostly enjoyable experience.
Not to excuse myself, but I agree - I was so upset at the resolution. I had a ton of problems uploading the project to the web and found out it was because I renamed the project and had to delete the godot folder and regenerate it. I spent 4+ hours changing settings in the project and reuploading and praying.
After I finally got it working, and uploaded the project... I noticed it... and didn't know if I could make any changes since I "submitted the project" and the discord was moving a bit too fast for me and another user to get an answer if we could modify our projects if it was "submitted". I'm still scared to change anything on the descriptions lol.
But I definitely hear you and have plans on making some changes to the resolution so things scale properly, volume sliders, and noticeable feedback that the portals are damageable to help with the difficulty! Even if nobody plays it after the jam, I want to make it an enjoyable experience to anyone who may check it out in the future.
Wow, I really appreciate the kind words!
The music took a full day to learn how DAWs work and then a lot of time figuring out how to actually... do the music. It was definitely the most challenging part and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! I also had originally planned on turning off the music when you died or won but... I liked it too much and wanted to keep it in, haha.
The key bindings were such a challenge! I had to eventually break down and watch a tutorial on how to achieve it after messing up for a while. I'm glad you
More enemies, power-ups, and shot variety were the tops things I really wanted to achieve before the deadline, but ran out of time sadly.
Again, I really appreciate the kind words and I'm glad you had fun :)
I loved the salt the best, haha. Fun and interesting, good job!
I escaped the house :) I didn't expect the final enemy you had to fight, good twist lol. I do agree that it was getting repetitive near the end and new enemy placement / unique methods to get past things would have been cool, but I'm sure you would have done that with more time!
Fun game :) The art was amazing and the dialogue noises were nice! I loved the tutorial as well showing you how the buttons worked.
I entered the gates where the two guards were and it went into an infinite dialogue window opening up, but otherwise I had fun turning into a fox and fireball attacking the Yokai.
I had a lot of fun! The music and art were great and I loved all the animals.
I took a picture of Big Foot! He was so quick, I understand why all the photos are normally blurry.
I think the only "bug" I ran into was that birds have collision so when they go back to their nest they gather supernatural strength and hurl me toward the tree. Minor thing though :) I'm glad the character was sturdy.
I've played it a lot during the testing and I think my max score is 110. 97 is a really good score though :)
I'm honestly really afraid of changing the descriptions and stuff while the game jam is still in the voting period, but I do have some plans to add small changes after the jam to just continue development and make the game slightly better as a side project.
I plan on adding an easy mode, damage indicators on the portals to indicate they're taking damage, and a little speed boost to the character if you hit a fairy :)
