Very fun game, didn't get a chance to play before the results came out, well deserved ranking. Really like the shader/art work with the pages, excellent voice reading, and the well fitting SFX and music.

The loading times seemed a bit strange though, what is it loading?

Hello!

This is a very unique game, I loved the art style and the way of telling the story, literally

At times I found the gameplay a little repetitive, perhaps it would be interesting to add one or two different skills to give more variability

I can see that you put a lot of love into this project, congratulations on your submission! 🥳

Great presentation, I like how the music shifts to something more energetic when you start to tell the modified version, I found the game very fun only complaint the boss peak attack anticipation its a bit hard to see, especially at the beggining where both shadows blend together, but overall impressive stuff !

Loved this one. The art is great and the curvature of the storybook was a great touch. The game also felt like the perfect length for me. Those Chun-Li kicks are no joke lol. A couple more attacks and maybe a bit more range on the heavy attack and you’d be golden!

Really loved the super awesome eye-popping graphics and unique storytelling playing within the book. The mechanics were fun and I really like it, great job on this!

Played your game on stream. If you wanted to watch me go through it ive got the vod below timestamped to your game. Overall extremely well polished. The art, voice acting, etc. was all extremely good and this felt like a really complete game. Boss attacks were nicely telegraphed and was fun to fight (especially with the friendly fire lol). The only real things I can comment on in terms of post jam improvements are just minor nitpicks like the fact the character cant walk all the way up since the top of it hits the collider

Developer

I know it may appear that the frog's collider is hitting the top of the grass, but the collider is actually at the feet of the character like you suggested it should be. The issue is that I had placed the collider for the map too low and just forgot to make adjustments once the final background art was in place.

We loved watching you play through our game, thank you!!

Really great game! I loved the arty style, audio, playing in a book. There was a couple finicky things with the original tutorial where the hit boxes didn't line up, but I was able to progress. I thought the shadow growing to see that the bird was about to come was a really nice touch.

Developer

Apologies for the issues, but glad you liked it! Thanks!

Great execution and concept!  My only complaint is those jerk birds seem to have more vertical reach than me, guess I need to practice more.

Developer

That's actually an issue that I was unable to fix in time, but I'm glad you liked it for the most part! Thanks!

Fun! Loved the aesthetic, all the little details in the foreground were very cute. Music was great as well. I wish there had been more enemy variety leading up to the boss, and more attack variety for the player as well. It was just starting to get stale by the time the boss came in and spiced things up. Over all though very impressive, super polished for a jam entry.

Developer

I agree that there could have been a bit more in terms of combat. Thank you for playing!

Super cool entry ! I loved that the game all happened in one book with story pages and olaying pages, and the fight works well, we feel the impact of the punchs. Really cute art with good colors that makes the game really like a "happy tale". I loved the characters designs too, especially the king ! With a good music, a narrator (really cool) and a cute story, amazing job !

Thank you very much!

love the way that the gameplay sections happen on the pages of the book! The art is well-done and extremely cute, too. I don't have a huge amount of experience with beat-'em-ups, but I enjoyed this one, even if the gameplay was a bit repetitive. All in all, a really cool entry.

Developer

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

Loved the art, the touch with the bug dancing was very cute! The storybook concept was charming + well executed. The gameplay felt a tad repetitive, but I'm not used to beat-em-up style games so that could totally just be me. Great job overall!

Developer

Don't worry it isn't just you, as there isn't much depth to the combat. I did want to improve the AI a bit and possibly have one or two more attacks, but ran out of time / steam haha. Thank you for playing!

That amount of polish is just insane. Wow, what can i say. Smooth animation, artwork, voice acting, everything. the (Folk) lore is right in there and cute. Who did the lovely narration? my patience and skill didnt get me to the credits

Developer

Thank you! JammyDoodles did both the art and voice acting.

This was a beautiful little game!  Adorable art, wonderful animations, nice soundtrack. Amazing concept with the action going page-to-page, reminded me of an old SEGA game Comix Zone. Combat was punchy and responsive, if not a little bit too easy due to enemies not being aggressive.  One of the better entries I've played so far, very good job! Thanks for making us a game!

Developer

Thank you for playing and providing your feedback!

Great game,  I really loved the art style and book concept.

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it!

Awesome submission. The art style is amazing and the fact that you play inside of a book is a very nice touch. I wish the hitboxes of the player's attacks were a bit bigger though. The game feels very polished as well.

Developer

Thank you! It's our first beat-em-up style game so there are many improvements that could be made, we appreciate the feedback.

Submitted(+1)

this is a pretty cool concept for using the theme, and playing "in the book" is pretty fun as well. I can imagine some interactions with using stuff outside the book for the frog, e.g. ripping off parts of the paper or drawing some additional tool with a pen. I only feel like the fights could be more interesting or there was something else to do

Developer(+1)

Those are cool ideas. Yeah there was a lot of things we learned as this is our first attempt at a beat-em-up style game, so there are many things we could improve upon. Thank you for playing and the feedback!

Well I for one welcome our new avian overlord.

But seriously, I don't need to tell you that its good, you know it's good. If I had to find one small nitpick, it'd be the final boss's propensity to knock you straight on top of the healing pizza you don't need yet, but even that I'm pretty sure happened only because it took me a bit to remember frogs can jump.

Developer

Yeah getting knocked back into the pizza did happen a few times during playtesting, I just never bothered to move it haha. Thank you for your feedback and kind review!

MORE FORG GAMES YES.  The art style is beyond cute and I love the on-page effect (I'm really curious is this a shader on a 2d layer or are you moving sprites along a 3d surface to pull that off?). The beam 'em up action could use a little refinement but it'ss already in a pretty good spot.  I'd love to see some progress indication to know how many more enemies/pages I've got left before the next story beat!

Developer(+1)

The book used two SubViewport nodes, one for the static part of the book and the other for the animated page. It was just a matter of setting up the book's UVs to display one of the two viewports at specific parts of the scene transitions. This way we can just display an entirely 2D scene on a 3D object!

Thank you for your feedback!

So cool!
