After working on a game for month's I have come to the realization that personally need to have a few things planned or else all my future projects will end up the same.... Abandoned.

  • Meaningful Games

Games need to have a purpose, a game with no purpose in my opinion does not deserve to exist. I cannot make games that I do not find meaningful and that do not add anything to the world. This is more of a personal observation as every person makes games for a different reason. Knowing and understanding why you make games is super important, I had lost sight for a while of why I even started making games in the first place. I was more stuck on how to create the game then why am I creating the game.

I was making this game out of obligation and wanting to be successful. But this kind of mentality is detrimental as you are not making the best game you possibly can. The stress of wanting to create the best product counteracts my ability to be creative and I am left with a blank page.

  • Finished Project Snapshot

At the beginning of the development process I need to create a thumbnail of what my finished game would look like, have a vision or else I will keep adding new features until my game becomes a convoluted mess. During the development process I would think to myself : "Wow this would be so cool if I added it in" but then I reach a point where all the systems are in but none of them are tested. Realizing that these new systems are not right I remove them. But then I get left with an empty shell of what the original idea was supposed to be. I end up polishing a  pile of garbage.

  • Stick to the initial vision and scope

As I said above adding new features when the initial vision has not been realized is a death sentence. The project as time went on kept growing in size, in systems to the point where I had no idea where I was going, I was shooting in the dark. Scoping appropriately and stickling to it is probably the hardest thing to achieve. I get excited by my own game and all the things I will be able to create with it that I lose sight of the initial vision.

  • Using Reference

I think the biggest factor resulting in every single one of my failed projects is the fact that I am not using any reference for the genre that I am constructing the game for. I would shoot in the dark instead of playing games similar to what I am making. Making my levels convoluted and not really fun to play. Having great reference of games that are similar to yours is probably the most important. Imposter Syndrome is 100% real and it's a bitch. But as developers and creatives we need to understand that nothing is original and we need to draw inspiration from other peoples work to create great new experiences. For example experiences  like Soul, Whiplash, Coco, Invincible. all have themes and plots that have been done before but the way that they approach the plot and characters makes room for a really fresh experience.

  • Living Live

Always being stressed and trying to create a game cooked up in my  basement working constantly is probably another reason why I had no way of creating pieces of art drawing from my own experiences because well I was having no experiences. Watching movies or reading literature also helps unlock our creative minds.

I would love to hear what you all think,

Angelo.

Thank you! i actually like the idea of having ot ram into them, we are going to make the game more lenient and give u like 3 hits before u actually die and we are going to add slowdown pickups u can grab to control ur speed, I think I will implement ur recommendation and allow u to plow into them but if you do that there wont be any slowdown drops as a way to balance everything out :P thanks for the feedback

I honestly am not usually a fan of these types of games, but for some really weird reason your game drew me in the moment i started reading... damn you sucked me right in and I really wanted to get out of that god damned limo  really well done

I really liked how I was indirectly affecting how me in wolf form  would act and attack it is quite a undertaking to manage all those resources and keep my hunger at bay. Overall I enjoyed it :P its quite relaxing with the music great choice. ALSO the animated wolf really adds to the experience :P

I like your take on the dinosaur rampaging out of control idea its a super cool flip because ya why wouldn't there be a anxious dinosaur who doesn't wanna crash into the city xD

Im so sorry I didnt pack the game properly now that I did it will work alot better xD

Your game was super fun ! I love the way you could change abilities it was actually super entertaining xD music was on point too

I liked the art and the music selection was good, I think if the game had more open areas it would cause a lot more hectic situations compared to those really tight corridors which make it easy to funnel some enemies :P other then that I enjoyed the game :D

I really enjoyed the swarm aspect of the game and that I just don't turn them into a zombie and they stay there, having them actually follow is actually super fun! I think removing the map and adding a people left counter would remove some of the onscreen clutter other then that I enjoyed ur game :)

In the post jam version we are thinking of adding a limited amount of bounces, even slowing down time when u hit a wall to allow u to re orientate quickly and get back into the game I agree hitting a wall once and dying is way to harsh and I think for accessibility I'll add keyboard movement for people who prefer to play it that way :p Thanks alot for the feedback :)

I like the gameplay and how chaotic it gets the more you play as more and more things get added into the mix, the fake keys are evil, the moving doors are even more evil, I like how u turned the environment into the mechanic instead of the player :P The more situations and polish you add the better the game will be :)

The game honestly has potential since the mechanic in itsef was not a hard one to grasp or super annoyng to use but a sound queue would be really good :P

I honestly really like the craziness of the controls, it feels like ur constantly wrestling with them. The signs were a bit hard to read though due to the speed at which ur character goes, maybe  make those more forgiving to make those easier to read. Other then that I really enjoyed ur game :P

I loved the art, the mechanic was super fun to use having to switch between enemies hurt my brain a little but I got to the tent :D

Your game is honestly super creative, I like the way it controls, its super intuitive the puzzles are interactive and require thought I really enjoyed it and I think there is a lot of potential there!

PS: Ur art is not bad at all!

I really enjoyed the mechanic and the direction you are taking the game, I think if you flesh it out and add more obstacles for the player to fiddle with it would make the game alot more entertaining and fun to play :D overall I enjoyed eating humans..... (jk)

Your game attacked me on a personal level by giving me the agility level of a potaTOE, I enjoyed it alot I think maybe hiding the huge numbers and maybe making them smaller would make the game more readable but other then that it was fun!

I really love the mechanic its super fun to control The game feels amazing and has a lot of impact!

I really love your game, its super fun and creative I had alot of fun :P it's one of those types of games where you play it and your instantly like, I love this. The only thing is maybe put a jammer at the beginning of the game so the player knows what hes getting into.

I like the game , I think adding enemies or something that you have to run away from to make the game more hectic would make the game play more interesting :D nice entry.

O.M.G you had me at pudding, I love your game and everything about it

The game is super funny and I love the execution :) I had a super hard time the first time and burned everything xD

Thank you I really enjoyed ur game too :p

I had a lot fo fun! I barely made it to the end in time was really impressed by the artwork :P

I honnestly really like your concept and the gameplay is really fun the only thing though is if you spam at the beginning and guide your ship and you lose all your charges then your out and are kinda stuck to your own fate, having the ability to somehow regenerate over time a directional inpuls,e would make the game a lot more fun :D

The game is fun but I feel like the character was too slow i think if he moved a little faster it would make the game more fun :D overall I enjoyed it

I think maybe allowing the player to influence each tenticle indivdually and allow the player to grip onto different objects etc would allow for more meaningfull gameplay, instead of throwing all of them out at the same time. Neat concep thought :)

I liked the idea but i feel like my natural instinct was to try to put the purple food from over the fish tank i was only able to put it at the bottom of it and my food went to the negative xD

Its pretty challenging! having some kind of tell when the keys are going to switch would make the game more more forgiving and less frustating too play overall i enjoyed the key switching I like that idea.

I like your take on it its pretty interesting I like the transform jump :p

I like the idea its super original! I always wanted to do a shield wielding game where your main ability is too bash things

Thank you!

thank you #alwaysandforevergodot

Hey thank you so much for playing the game,  for how to play the game with the mouse im pretty sure i mentioned it it must have been too small to notice xD.

I appreciate the feedback and i agree the load times are abysmal we messed up on many fronts when it came to how we were compiling the assets we had a lot more art and idea for levels but we messed up when making the tiles as it was our first time using tilemaps etc after the jam we are thinking of overhauling most of the game so it does not kill the momentum :p

Thanks again for playing :D

The game is great and the character feels really good to look at great entry :)

I like the game but I think there isnt enough feedback when u are trying to place it on an anchor point where you think it might fit but its slightly off in terms of rotation. Other then that its a really good puzzle game :)

This game is a blast I love it, Turtle Power best Power, Who in their right mind would still use horses when you have turtles

The game is fun but I think having more levels and decreasing and adding more unique types of tile would definitely add to your game play depth without adding much complexity :) That kitty is fast as fuck tho

I really like the game and your execution of the theme is spot on, I think a toggle that allows the game to play a a faster rate would be nice depending on the circumstance!
