Very lovely graphics! I kept running past that droplet like 5 times haha, ended up ignoring the ship damage after a while and just focusing on collecting. Very fun lil game!
Really love the art style and the animation. I also like the scavenging mechanic a lot. It feels a lot like Terraria but underwater, with more time I think this would be an awesome game.
Neat concept and I love the look of the game! The oxygen sound effects were a nice touch that really helped push the atmosphere too. The movement was a bit rough as I kept getting stuck against walls while trying to jump up things which ended up with me getting stuck in the cave at one point. It also seemed like the ship would get damaged very quickly which discourages you from roaming too far. Otherwise, I think the idea is solid and with a little bit of polish it would be quite fun.
Very nicely crafted atmosphere and visuals!
The character's movement felt a little rough at times when the player stopped on touching the ground.
Adding some jump buffering would help a lot in that aspect
great job!
I liked it, the visual detail of going under the ship like that already made this look appealing and immersive into the world. The graphics and sound set the atmosphere well and the world to explore is quite large.
Finding the relics, keeping the ship from being compromised, and overall how much there is to do and how excellent the game looks and feels is quite impressive considering the limited time of the jam. I think you did a fantastic job on this one!
The art is amazing, and the whole game idea is very interesting. If I had to point out a flaw, it would be that sometimes, when moving the character, the camera feels 'shaky,' as if it's not moving at the right time.
Great game. Good scuba art
Really fantastic work on the art - maybe the character animations felt a little stiff, but maybe that’s just my imagination because the movement felt stiff. Loved the UI art in particular but really it was all great. Maybe the letters 02 blend in a bit too much with the background.
I found it confusing that there were objects in the same/similar color to the relics that weren’t relics, like the starfish and that real cute fish that chases the other one (really nice touch), since we weren’t told what to look out for. I also definitely did not realize the gold coral was a relic until I accidentally picked it up, and the one hiding in grass was nearly too tough to spot.
I feel like the golden rule of platformers is that it should be fun to just move and jump around in the world, and this didn’t quite get there for me except for the boost jump which was great. I’m guessing you were going for a kind of realistic underwater feel but especially the gap between landing and being able to jump again, lack of ability to do a short jump, low gravity, etc. just made traversal kinda a chore.
I didn’t understand the hull integrity mechanic, so I just ignored it since I’d get a warning within seconds of leaving the ship, I just made a point to always bring scrap back and I was fine. Also seemed like dying was the intended way to return to base, which is fine, but strange. Sometimes there was that oxygen efficiency game but I had no idea what would trigger it and how to interact with it at all besides hitting up a few times until it let me go? I promise I was really trying to understand!
I felt like the hacking game was maybe a little on the tough side. Memorization minigames usually don’t feel right, but in this case I think it really played nicely with the core gameplay loop since they’re both effectively memorization games at wildly different paces. I don’t know if that was an intentional design choice but it felt like a really natural and great complement to the main gameplay, great job with that :)
While I have my critiques, overall this is a really awesome and impressive jam entry and definitely something to be proud of. Good work!
I think this was a really fun idea! It reminded me a lot of those old 90's point and click adventure games. The jumping animation was fun, it really felt like being underwater (and/or on the moon). The art was really impressive as well, especially the player character. It was just too much information all at once at the start for me, and I wish you didn't have to go all the way back to repair the ship.
Those very nice mechanics man!
Finished your game and i really liked it ! Really nice style and the underwater vibe is great ! Some beautiful sprites as well. I would say that the game movement is a bit slow, it looked like it was always the right play to die under water instead of going back up because of how much time it would take, and I never wanted to go back up and fix the fish neither. Also it took me a while to understand that you needed to have an empty spot selected to interract with objects. Other than that a really great experience, I loved the upgrades and the minigame was a great one. Congratulations on the game !
Took a few minutes to beat the game, overall pretty good. It does feel a bit claustrophobic with the small field of view and instant stop on landing. The effects are nice, kelp growing back, smoke on landing. Best part probably is the hacking minigame, has nice sounds and upgrade rewards. Good ambience with the bubbling, fish, crabs.
The art is great! Creepy underwater atmosphere. I got really lost at some point.
OMG the sound! I really felt like I was underwater
Quite nice! I love the art and the environment. The UI is also awesome. And the hacking is such a unique take and surprisingly hard if you're not paying attention.
Great Game... Fun to Play...But after lossing so much..Hate to play
That is such a well thought game I got overwhelmed simply by the tutorial/walkthrough at the beginning. Admit that I skipped the hell out of it.
I really like the bg sound and sound design in general! The art style is really put together as well. As a beginner I really find amazing that this was done during a jam.
The movement was a bit slow to me, but I get that this is the idea for being in deep water. This is my only complain, and it is really a nitpick.
20/10!
It was interesting trying to manage both the exploration and ship management. Though the movement stutters made it a little tedious, it was cool exploring the different areas and searching for the artefacts!
Art
I really enjoyed the art style, especially the paralax scrolling with the background. Still, the water must've been pretty poisonous if the fish started swimming backwards.
Mechanics
It took me a while to understand that you need to change your hotbar slot to pick something up or play the hacking minigames (the latter I don't really understand why). I don't know whether it was necessary. From what I understand, the game would still function the same if you wouldn't have TAB and the hotkeys to nagivate your inventory and just made it so everything happens automatically. After understanding the system, I really enjoyed the experience. I wasn't also sure, how important hull integrity is. I mean, when does the hull break completely? How much time do I have? I wish I knew the answers to those
Controls
In terms of the controls, they were pretty unresponsive. I get the feel, you wanted to add to the game (i. e. slow movements in water), but I would say that it needs a bit of tweaking. I would personally increase the gravity, because currently it takes a while to fall down. Or maybe you could make it so the jetpack also allows you to lunge downwards to fall faster. Also implementing jump buffering would go a long way in increasing the responsiveness. It takes like a second for you to be able to jump after landing, so making it that you can press SPACE even before jumping would be nice.
Sound design
SFX and music were really enjoyable. They did the water atmosphere justice. It would however be nice if there was some music in the title screen so you could know, how much you need to change the music/sfx slider.
Title screen
Since I'm talking about the title screen - this is a nitpick btw - I find it weird that when changing between the menu and settings screen the window fades to black to reveal the same background. If the screen fades I would expect the background to change as well. Instead you could just make it so the text itself fades in and out.
Really cool experience! Congratulations!
