Didn't really use the deer at all? Just kind of...existed.  I was mildly entertained until the boss....Yeah that dude was a pain in the ass. Good thing im a gamer. It was worth it for the aggy easter egg at the end though that was sovl overload.

Very cute game, I like the presentation but there's room for some polish, enemies could have a death animation and there should be more indicators for when you take hits. The gameplay is simple and short, there isn't really anything new but it works well for what it offers, I like having a mount albeit the mechanic is very simple and there aren't places where it feels necessary, such as in Super Mario World where you could use Yoshi to jump higher.

My only real concern with the game is that it is really CPU-intensive for some reason. I decided to play the downloadable version because in my experience most games are more stable in Windows rather than the browser, but the game pushed my CPU to the limits. My computer is quite old, but it should be more than enough for a 2D sidescroller made in Godot.

Nice and cute and short. The game is fun to play, I thought the boss was great and it was clever that you had the bullets spawn from above to keep me from double jumping over everything like I did in the first phase, though the boss was a crazy difficulty spike over the rest of the game, it took me two tries to beat it.

The powerups were simple and intuitive and worked well for a small bite sized Metroidvania. My only two gripes are that I don't feel like the pet deer did much or changed how I played significnatly and the cutscene song felt like it was ripping into my brain with the high notes, otherwise the music selection was great and gave me a bit of a Ragnarok Online vibe!

Very cute and very short. Nice cutscenes, great artstyle. Music is a bit unfitting - I kinda expected something more cheery.

I dig metroidvania-style progression. Most of the game wasn't hard, but the boss, especially second phase with bullets from up top is BS, not a fan. Had to cheat to beat it.

Otherwise - very cute game, very lighthearted. Please nerf the boss.

This is a nice bite-sized metroidvania adventure. There is just enough breadcrumbs here to keep you always wanting more. Possibly my favorite thing about this game is the atmosphere. The melancholy of the music, the whimsical character interactions, the squeaky sound effects - it all makes for a vibe that just jives with me. Exploring the cave is just fun.

A gripe I have with this game is that it doesn't do anything particularly unique. The main run and gun combat is something you've seen many times before and I found that it wasn't particularly engaging. You just hold down the shoot button and face the direction of the enemy. The platforming is also pretty basic. It's the atmosphere and level design that holds me over here.

And about that boss... It's 100 times harder than anything else in the game.  it's a gargantuan difficulty spike which is definitely bad game design. I managed to get through it and even no hit the boss without cheesing. I feel that the only way to get through the boss is to figure out what the game developer wanted you to do through trial and error. Furthermore, the boss just simply isn't particularly interesting. It's just a simple projectile to jump over and a projectile from above to side-step. I don't like that you die in just three hits. The boss also regenerates its health a couple times throughout the fight which confuses the player as to their progress. Also it's dumb that you can leave the boss room after the fight has begun.  Most of my criticism of this game comes from this one encounter. Luckily, once you make it past the ending is pretty sweet.

the main takeaway was that the rideable companion wasn't very useful, and the bossfight (Which i cheesed) was a giant difficulty spike

the cutscenes are cute, but i'd say the gameplay was a bit basic with nothing particularly special that sets the game apart besides the visuals. despite that, i still had fun and managed to beat the game.

I actually liked the cutscenes. For me it felt like a an animated short with gameplay sections, which isn't a bad thing! But I thought the art and animations were really well done and are the strongest part of this game.

Too many cutscenes, barely any time in-between them really takes me out, would rather play an actual movie game instead of a platformer pulling the same stuff. It is pretty obvious when something you made is being heard/shown and something you downloaded online, so it is jarring at times. It's ok. The deer is so fast that not using it felt dumb. You made something that looks good, but doesn't really have much more than that for me.

the game is fun, but i feel that the sprites of the small "crystal enemies" were kind of unclear, maybe because of the very low resolution.
also, the music didn't really fit the vibe of the game, i would have expected something more cheerful and upbeat.
the boss is very hard compared to the rest of the game, maybe the spawn rate of the projectiles spawning from above should be lowered?

It's very cute, although I'm personally not a fan of the super low res pixel graphics. Maybe also because mixels look very jarring at that resolution. I think the effects you used mixels on could be very easily made using proper pixel sizes. I agree with the deer mount feeling too floaty and due to the small levels I never had the urge to hop on it to cover a larger distance + I can't fight on it either. Needs some extra polishing on the sounds. It gives me some animal well vibes overall. The boss was alright in terms of difficulty but since the rest of the game was so easy it felt a bit jarring to suddenly be challenged. Be careful with binding X/Z because german keyboard layout sucks, but at least you had alternate controls that were fine. Also I kinda hate not being able to jump with W, is shooting up really important for the game?

it seems like the other comments cover everything i was thinking the little deer friend reminds me of donky kong but it didn't change the way i played when i was on him

It feels well constructed, the game continually finds small new ways to keep you invested wether it be with powerups, narrative, music, achievements, or aesthetic changes. Its simple and minimal but enough to keep me playing.

Presumably missing sound effects, walking and jumping notably

Killing the purple duck feels a bit bad, he makes such a cute noise when he dies

Maybe the player hitbox could be made smaller, i felt i got damaged on projectiles i wasnt touching

I feel rescuing your family members could have a bit more kick to it, at first i didnt realize thats what i was doing when i got them out of their prison. Maybe play a little melody or show some text/emoticons that shows their appreciation

The  control on the mount feels maybe a bit too floaty... even the simple platforming to get the double jump took me a couple of tries but maybe that was intended

The boss battle was a fun increase in difficulty, but maybe too difficult. i was engaged for a while until i got the feeling i just couldnt beat him, i found a way to cheese trough him though (standing at the edge of the room makes it so the projectiles cant hit you) and got to the end. I noticed theres no cooldown on how often you can take damage, maybe adding post hit invulnerabilty could be enough to make the boss easier, or letting the player shoot the top projectiles. The boss was the most gameplay engaging part of the game and i enjoyed trying to beat him.

The AGDG statue at the end is cool, did not expect my sprite to appear. cheered me up. Curious to see what you do with the game next.

I managed to get the 5 family members but got filtered by the boss fight.

Still seems very well made.

It is a joy to play! Love the sound and visuals. The shooting reminds me of cave story. The boss was impossible to beat, gave up after 10 or so tries.

It works, technically. Not to crab, but I was terribly bored. I guess originality is not the goal here.

For the art, I would be OK with the raw pixel style, but why make it 5% mixels?!?! Just stick to the one huge pixel size you have in 95% of things imho. Also sometimes even the things that have same pixel size do not align pixel-perfectly, this really grinds my gears.

Control scheme I understood after a while, but cannot understand why one would choose it, there is like 3 actions in the game but keys are all over the keyboard. Please don’t bind X and Z if you don’t localise correctly!

Cheers

Cute and very well done. I didn't get the cutscenes at all. nice music. sometimes at the cross section between a cutscene and gameplay the music cuts abruptly.

T
This position allows cheesing the boss, the top bullets die instantly when they spawn and the jump timing is more lenient for horizontal bullets because they die when they hit the edge. I don't feel bad cheesing because the boss is kind of extreme for how easy the rest of the game is. ;-)
