Wow i'm really impressed by all the work you made on the visual, the animation ! it's incredible
The athmosphere work very well. I love your use of the theme and how it work with the story. it's a really great entry and a nice game, great job, i love it <3
Thank you so much! We really appreciate all the positive feedback, so thank you for encouraging us!!
Really fun game, but there are 2 problems. 1. there is no error time 2. moving left and right feels fast with no kinda acceleration. Really loved the game and art, would love to see an updated version.
I am confused by point 1, but I like the idea you are suggesting with point 2! Maybe the character becomes a similar speed, but only after running the same direction for a certain amount of time. How might you implement this in code?
error time is the time you can still jump while you are falling off the platform, most of the time it's something like 0.2 sec.
Ok I see, thank you for the clarification!
Very fun game with really good art, though the controls and movement might need some touch-up.
Otherwise, good job!
Thank you! We are very proud of our artwork! Totally agree on the controls!
I found this game to be especially top-notch!
The music and atmosphere were beautiful and the backstory was creative and well detailed.
Definitely worth every minute and would love to see more work from you guys!
Wow, thank you so much, that means a lot! We strive for high quality content- might take a bit to get exactly where we want, but we are proud of this first game, so thank you!
This was an amazing submission. I absolutely loved the art, story, and levels. My only critique was that the player moved a tad too fast for my liking, but I was able to get over it. Nice Job!
Totally agree on player movement! This is my first 2d game so I am a little new to the fine tuning, but thank you for your feedback! Always encouraging to hear people like what we put together!
Sweet story and art! I like how the tutorial was so fluid. The movement was a bit weird, though.
Thank you! I agree- movement is definitely something I will work on perfecting!
Yeah, so, the narrative and backstory are lovely, and I like the atmosphere of the game. The music really adds to it. As for the gameplay, the collisions are a little bit fiddly, and the circular hitbox doesn't go well with the precision platformer and fast movement of the caracter. The visuals are very pretty, but are a bit desynchronized with the gameplay. The walk/run cycle doesn't really work out with the speed of the player character, for example. The concept of the game is interesting, though. If you continue to work on it, I would love to see the result. Fantastic job!
I'd like if you check out my game, too, if you can!
Great feedback! Character movement is so hard and I totally agree about making it better! I used a capsule collider only because when using a box collider, randomly our character would get caught on the ground. I can look into making the bottom more curved, but still flat.
Interesting to hear the animation doesn't seem to align with walk/run, we will look into that, thank you!
If you have any tips on cleaning up character movement, let me know!
Played through the game, it was good! A little hard to get into some place because of how fast the player moved and how big the player was, as mentioned. I've seen some platformers that are pretty unforgiving and have you restart a whole level if you mess up, and it seems like you guys thought through some edge cases so that it wouldn't need to happen. Great job.
Also, I didn't realize this was pixel art until I looked at the tags. Looks unique and great for pixel art, to me. And I loved the dedication to Josh's wife, very sweet.
😊💜
Thank you! I do wish the levels were more put together, but they suffered because of making other things a priority. Jonah did an amazing job with the pixel art! He will be glad to read your praise, so thank you!
My wife was surprised by that! I am just glad to give her something a little more special :)
This game is really good
Just i find it a bit to hard because the character is too big sometimes
But it's really good !
Great feedback! The levels were a little cramped, so in the future, I think we will expand the level sizes so the character does not feel too big. Thank you!!
Pretty alright game, similar to https://itch.io/jam/benbonk-game-jam-3/rate/1106244 this game. The art was a little all over the place but the narration and walkthrough added a sense of polish. Could be more puzzles instead of just precise jumping because the game gave more of a story sense instead of precise platformer. The music had water at the start which was weird but it was a premade so can't help that. Other than that, a good concept and start for a game jam.
Thank you for your feedback! I would love more story aspects and a few more puzzles for this game!
When you say that the art was all over the place, what parts felt out of place?
The water running at the start was intentional as there was a puddle of water a little later in the level, but that is a good idea to make the water SFX play once the player gets close. Thank you for your feedback!
I understand our game being similar to other games, but with the theme, this was the idea we came up with without influence from other submissions. With that said, I would like to say that our game has a different feel than others, but again, thank you for your feedback!
Tbh I worded that wrong, the art wasn't inconsistent, just compared to the narrative story, if there was more of a scene instead of straight platforming it would've blended into the story a lot better. Also not saying that it's bad to not have the most unique base concept but just listed it as another thing to add to how I rate a unique game. Good game considering the time limit!
Thanks for the clarification! So by more of a narrative scene, are you thinking more along the lines of a visual novel?
A scene as in compared to the still image you used as the background, maybe additional background objects, trees, who knows. Possibly even a mansion kind of scene. Considering the time constraints though, making scenes are a little much, but that's just for future possibilities.
Oh I see- that was definitely on the to-do list, but yeah, it all came down to core mechanics in the end, but that is certainly something we would like to add to the full game if we come around to completing this game! Thank you!
omg the visuals and the sound. The graphics are just beautiful and the sound when you walk is pleasing to my ears.
i cant make the hard jump with the cat in the bottom left corner
If you wouldn't mind, can one of you guys maybe rate my game because I'm in desperate need of some ratings!
There are some hard jumps! We talked about reworking some of the physics, but that was not one of the priorities. Glad you liked it! I will be sure to check out your game!
Really really solid submission!
Visuals and SFX are top notch, and the level desgin is really nice!
The theme was used pretty unoriginally but the rest make up 100% :D
Thank you for your feedback, glad to get something positive! Out of curiosity, when you say the theme is unoriginal, what do you mean? Would love to use this input to polish this game!
I mean for a game that just coume out of the blue it would be original, but when there is a jam and the theme is two sides, the first thing that comes to your mind is some kind of switch or mirror mechanic, and there was kinda no spinoff on it.
But it was really well polished and animated so out of a bunch of swithc platformers its probably the best :D
Ok I understand, the funny thing is that with the two sides theme, mirror was something we thought up 5 hours into the jam. Our first thought with two sides were ideas along the lines of coins (make decisions based on a coin), dice, war, and good vs evil. I guess we should have gone with one of those ideas instead - didn't realize we chose the more popular one, haha!
Thanks again for your feedback! I rated your game, too! Good work!!
Thanks :)
When you get in a lot of jams you can kinda see what games will be made when just hearing the theme.
Regardless of the theme it was a really nice submission!
That makes sense! thank you! Looks like you have made a lot of games!
Yeah im getting addicted to jams :(
Uh-oh haha I might end up there myself if I am not careful! Did you watch Ben Bonk prior to this jam?
Yes, for a year almost i think
Nice! Hopefully I will get to that point for the next one of these! Well keep up the good work! Best of luck to you!
I did the last jam also but i was really bad at making games than, now im kinda deacent.
First game we have made! We have about a month of total experience between the two of us
