How does your game represent "Power"?
Got that electrical power and also the Powerful force of the grip dice games have on our souls

I really like unique spins on existing games, especially card/dice games. Once I picked up the gist of Grid Lock I was hooked. With a more fleshed out UI and sound effects there's a lot of potential here. I'm not too sure the light bulb would be necessary, but in the interest of the theme it totally makes sense. Great submission, and I hope you decide to continue working on this idea.
Love to hear it! It's funny because while developing the mechanics, I really couldn't think of anything that would work quite the same as light bulbs, as the core game was "a game of chance incorporating electrical power". Other electronics can absolutely be overloaded and fried, but I think light bulbs have the most visual appeal in the long run haha. I think post jam when I go to refine it and add what's missing, I'll sit down and see if we can come up with other things that may fulfill the same role.
Really appreciate you trying it out and giving feedback on it! It'll definitely be getting some more work put into it down the road :D
Great idea, and it has some potential!
But, to be honest, I don't think the "light" and "power" add anything here - it just makes things more confusing. Make it just about "dice-blackjack" - would be better, I think, and easier to understand. Also the controls with keyboard are quite weird given that most of the mechanics have no movement aspect and using mouse would be much easier.
Also nice visuals, but again - they don't quite fit the game, and would require some elaboration on what's going on.
But overall - nice submission! I enjoyed winning a few times :) And kudos for using Godot! :)
I feel like the confusion does entirely come down to the presentation of the game up to this point tbh. It's one of those things where I'm just gonna have to let future builds put all the pieces together for the player, since I'm sure on the surface the lightbulbs don't seem like much, but every ounce of the game was built around figuring out how to create a game of chance with electrical power at it's core. The blackjack part came as a direct consequence of the lights!
We'll see how things go in time haha. Some things obviously won't end up working out in the end, but I deeply appreciate you giving it a shot and providing feedback!
And heck yeah... This is a Godot appreciation zone. All my homies love Godot B)
I feel this game has lots of potential. With some improvements like adding tutorial, more visual indications and sound effects, this game can be so much fun. Anyways good job! Love the character design.
No but seriously, great game, it is not my type of game, but i really loved the mechanics, i got chilled by it :3
Ooh really interesting concept. Blackjack with three switchable slots adds a lot more strategy into the game. If there were some sound effects and music to go along with the gameplay, this would be even cooler!
The game concept is really interesting. kind of like black jack but add a little more complex. I think you should add a sound effect so you kind of know who winning the round. The art really cute ! good job. also there a bug found when I played
The concept is really cool and something I could see myself playing in real life with a friend on a camping trip. I just wish there was more to the presentation! I would like to have all the controls done with one hand (left-click), and some sounds and other feedback to help me know what's going on. Even after learning the rules and winning a couple rounds, I felt a bit confused about what was going on.
Overall, great work and I had fun playing it!
Yay! I'm glad you mentioned playing with a friend, because something I absolutely want in a future build is a local vs mode.
And tragically, the controls were mostly just an issue of time. I do have mouse only controls mapped out and just wasn't able to fully implement them before I had to submit it. You know the struggle XD
Thank you so much for the feedback and checking it out!
The character artwork does look good, but I found it a little confusing to play at first. It's a good idea and led to some exciting play.
Recommendations:
- Just have buttons to press alongside key bindings. The controls are simple, so the game can be entirely played using a mouse.
- Sound effects and music.
- Tutorial to teach the mechanics. Even having some text in game would help.
Exciting play was all I was hoping for in the end, so I'm glad that was achieved!
Unfortunately wasn't able to get the controls up to par before the submission deadline, but rest assured there's comfortable plans for keyboard only, mouse only, and controller control mapping so it wasn't an oversight.
Thank you for the feedback and giving the game a go! It's much appreciated
Controls are hard to get without a tutorial but once you do this is a very fun tactics game. The character art also makes the whole thing super charming
