Awesome game! I always loved 2.5D games, and this is no exception! All the puzzles are really well designed and the art looks very cute! I'd love to have some music variety though, and to have a way of looking from different perspectives when i hold shift, because the one angle you get isn't enough to properly tell whether or not there are walls behind other walls.
There are also a lot of funny bugs, didn't take out any points for that since i've enjoyed breaking the game but I think you'd like to hear about the bugs lol. There's a way to "double jump" if you press spacebar fast enough after jumping (not the same as coyote jumping, as coyote jumping is usually only applied to falling, not jumping). Also, there's a way to move during layer transitions, if you press shift during a transition it will let you move even though the animation isn't finished yet.
Heard that you wanted to make a steam release in the discord, and i say hell yeah, go for it! The game definitely has the potential, just a bit of polish and more content and it's ripe for the taking.
Hey there! Thank you for the detailed review!
We'll consider adding an option for moving the camera when pressing shift (Officially called peeking in code) to analyze the situation.
The "Double jump" was kind of an intended glitch, we noticed it pretty early in development but even though it was really easy to fix (Had to delete one line where the jumping state was resetting after letting go the jump button) we just let it there because it was fun for speedruns lol. We did fix it for an upcoming post-jam update we want to release very soon because it kinda breaks some puzzles in ways we didn't end up liking.
And about the other bug, I don't even know how you managed to find that, we never noticed it lol. But we changed how changing the layers works and apparently it got fixed.
Thank you again for the bug hunting and kind words!
Really nice aesthetics. Fun gameplay. Good audio and exceptionally cool mechanic! Nice job
Great game! I really like the 3d switch mechanic, the way you introduced new concepts gradually is superb game design! Love the colors too, the game is just so polished and easy to look at.
Likes: concept, realization, color scheme, general graphics. Summary of likes - solid game.
Dislikes: front view sometimes blocks the back dimensions even with rotation (there was a tall tower in one of the first levels); pressing shift and thes w/s causes a cacophony of sounds. Summary of dislikes: hardly noticeable.
Total: solid game with hardly noticeable flaws.
Thank you for taking the time of giving this detail feedback!!
The front view blocking the back dimensions is not something that I am necessary against, however I agree that the shift in camera perspective is something that can feel quite odd and definitely needs some tweaking to make it more comprehensible and intuitive and to avoid that cacophony of sounds.
Again, really appreciate the feedback!!
I know someone who wanted to do this but in 3d, well I mean in his case it would probably be going from 3d to 4d. X_X It's a very interesting concept for sure. I'm here not trying to figure out if this is a 2d game or a 3d game >_>. I feel like its 3d but with a camera going from orthorgraphic to perspective... This is very cool though.
Really awesome game! Always love a good puzzle platformer. My only critique is that the visual feedback could be a bit intuitive for which layer your player is on - perhaps the character could change colors to match the associated layer. Great work!
Thank you for the feedback!
Yeah, we are trying to think a way to implement a visual indication for the current layer, most solutions come with drawbacks that are hard to solve, for example, if we change the color of the player it could be harder to know exactly where you are in general, because it could be confused with the background or level geometry colors.
Some other Ideas we had include changing the outline or adding a UI indicator of the current layer, like a colored arrow on top of the player's head.
I love the music, sound, and the color palette and art style in this game. I think the puzzle design was overall well done, though a few of the stars I had to give up on as I couldn't figure them out. Also that main menu level rotation showing off the level design and art is beautiful
love the theme interpretation, the layered world mechanic is very interesting. Cute art and great sfx/music. good job
One of the best 2d to 3d mechanics I've seen, nice job!
This game was great! The concept of switiching dimensions is very unique and interesting. The level design was beautiful, and the character was very cute, loved it!
