Cool little game! Controls felt pretty good, may be with a little bigger coyote time it will be better! But still very cool entry, thank you for it!

Pretty cool! 2 things to maybe be improved upon:

  • often times I thought I pressed jump in time, but ended up just falling down -> look up “coyote time” online for how to fix it
  • I didn’t really understand why those turrets spawned or despawned randomly? Sometimes they just spawned in my face I felt like…

Else the movement feels pretty good!

Really well done. The controls felt pretty good, but I got stuck with one of the jumps and just couldn't get the timing down - that easily could have been on me - but I would highly suggest looking into coyote time to help with that.

Well done on this submission to the jam, a bit of work with the camera is needed but well done :)

10/10 would die on a leap of faith again

Developer

thanks lol

Pretty good game I like the sound design, but the camera was tricky

For a 2nd game jam, it's pretty cool that you managed to make a complete game! Here are a few things I would focus on to improve for next time:

  • Improve physics and the player controller. For example, make smaller hitboxes for deadly stuff. Tighten the player's controls, and maybe even look into things like adaptive jump height, jump buffering and coyote time.
  • Make a better camera. I really died once of twice because of the camera preventing me to see where I was landing. You probably don't want that camera to be 'jumping' with you, you just want it to go sideways.
  • Improve the presentation and communication to the player. If you're gonna make a hazard, make some deadly lava, instead of blu-ish water that doesn't look so harmful. If you go for a pixel art game, maybe also make the size of your pixels consistent throughout the game.

That's a few things that I could think of. In the end your game was fun but the game feel could be so much improved! So good job already, and good luck for the future!

Developer

thanks for the suggestions I was kinda on the fence on adding better movement because I kinda just made it day one and realy never changed it

I feel like with the zippy movement it could be enjoyable to speedrun and trying to do levels quickly.

Pretty fun!! The fast reset plus simple + deadly obstacles made it addicting to keep playing and overcome each level. Cute main character - nice job!

I am not playing a lot of platform games so I can't help you much in terms what exactly do better but I can say that I feels ok in general. For sure you can look more into pixel size consistency in art, character is looking good but some other parts like house or boats feel a bit weird because of this lack of consistency. Also change in music during the storm would be helpful. To be fair at first I didn't recognize it to be a storm while being focused on not being shoot xD

Submitted

Nice the art is very cool and the levels are just the right difficulty. However I think it would be cool if during the storm more foreboding music were to play and if there were more meteors.

I agree with everyone mentioning coyote jump time, but other than that, I like the level design and the analogue jump. Keep up the good work!

Nice job. The game feels like a normal 2d platformer and it's all good. But as others have mentioned, adding making jumps responsive and adding coyote jump would make it more user friendly and playable. The art is good and quite cute to look at. Good Job overall !

Nice game, well done! Maybe look into making jumps a bit more responsive, there are a lot of good tutorials on that. Overall, great job!

I really loved the pixel art! very charming and cute

Good job on finishing!

Like others have mentioned, next time you tackle a platformer, look into coyote time, as I missed quite a few jumps by pressing space a fraction too late. Platformer toolkit by GMTK's Mark Brown goes into this stuff in detail, check it out!

I would also work on the camera next time. I dunno if it was just my screen, but I couldn't see the ground almost every time I jumped. You could fix this by lowering the camera overall slightly, and having a "Y band" where the camera's Y position doesn't move if the character is inside it, just so the camera doesn't move on regular jumps.

But still, great work and I hope you keep making games!

Developer

Thanks for the advice, I have played platformer toolkit before, but I felt like I needed to spend more time on the levels and I didn't want to waste too much time.

Submitted

Totally fair! I suppose that's the trouble with jams, you have to prioritise.

I hope I didn't come off as too harsh!

Hey nice job on the game. For some criticism, since you asked in the description, I found some of the jumps a little difficult and a little repetitive. Look into how to add linear acceleration/deceleration/CoyoteTime and things of the sort to your platformer mechanics to help make the core movement feel better. Cheers!

Developer(+1)

Yea I Kinda felt the jump was a little repetitive but I had a lot of other stuff to do still so I just left it.

We played through your game all the way through! No bugs :) It's like a more relaxing version of Geometry Dash combined with Google's Dino run. Our only suggestion would be to make the water texture stand out more as we accidentally tried to walk on it multiple times thinking it was the ground. Other than that, great work!

First of all, good job finishing the Jam.
Nice game. You need to add in the page a little description on how to play it, and how is related to the theme.
Good luck

Developer

please tell me of any bugs or anything, I would like to learn form them
