The idea is really interesting and original, this could easily turn into a full game, it has a lot of potential! I loved everything in it!

Congrats and great job! :D

Developer

Thank you so much! We are going to release a post-jam version that rounds out the story and adds some more polish, so keep an eye out if you're interested :)

Really cool concept, I would love to see this expanded.  I think with the fun writing that is already evident in this jam game you could make a cool game.  Maybe a narrative that only bits and pieces will be filled in once you uncover each bit of the tape.  Each tape depicting a slow decent into madness.  Great job.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! We originally wanted there to be an overarching story but we were limited due to time. We are hoping to expand on the story in a future update :) Right now, we're focusing on adding an ending instead of it just looping the last tape. We will add your game to our list of games to rate!

Submitted

Yeah time is always the reaper of good ideas.  I will have to follow you to check in on the progress.

I'm honestly impressive by the unique game play! At first, I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to do, but quickly after, I realized how interesting this game turned to.

Graphics and models were simple yet good and wonderful for this game.

Overall loved the unique game play and very interesting usage of the theme!

Developer

We're glad you liked it! Could you elaborate (if you have time of course!) on how you weren't sure what to do at the beginning? We are making a new version of the game and want to make sure everything is as clear as possible! Thank you for your feedback :)

I'm not lying if i say this is the most original game i played from this jam. Never thought or seen a mechanic like this.

Game teaches you and surprises you with the mechanics of moving forward and backwards.

Models and textures are simple, but works so well.

Audio is amazing, being able todo all of that sounds is amazing. Also, details so good. The sound effects are amazing.

5/5

Thank you so much! We're glad you enjoyed it!

Really cool game, worked very smooth, great job with the aesthetics , visually very simple with just a desk but you pulled it off beautifully. Don't really have anything you could improve other than sometimes it takes a bit to long until the encoded part comes along, but that's just me :P

Developer

Thank you for playing! We are glad you enjoyed it! We're fiddling around with the placements of the encoded messages which we're going to release in a post jam version when the rating period is over so we'll take this into consideration. Thank you for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Great job! I liked it very much ;) but as AJtheBeast says, I'd loved to have subtitles. Well done;)

Developer

Yeah we definitely want to add subtitles to make the game more accessible! It might have issues with the game design as it might make some levels too easy. We are currently restructuring the difficulty curve and making some small changes to the core mechanic so we might find a solution to this in doing that. Thank you for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

This game was AWESOME. I loved it> really great take at the theme. No criticism. But maybe you should add subtitles but they might make the game too easy. Its upto you. just a suggestion. The visuals and audio were great. I really enjoyed the game.

Could you please take the time to rate my game too? It would mean a lot to me if you did.

Developer

We're glad you liked it! We really want to add more accessibility features but we didn't have time to do it during the jam. I have rated and commented on your game

Submitted(+1)

Really great Game!!! I honestly dont even now what you could improve on other than maybe adding more "levels".

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We’re going to add a proper ending after the rating is done

Submitted(+1)

That sounds like a good idea! Keep the great work up. (and also thanks for being so honest and waiting for the end of the rating period)

Submitted(+1)

Great great job on the game

Developer

Thank you!

Wow! Great job! Loved the humor, writing, models, game design, audio. This game deserves more ratings. I really liked what you were able to put together in only a week.

Voice acting was fantastic too. Did you get multiple people to voice act for you or was this all studio based. Either way, well done.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for rating and playing! Most of the voices are ours, but we got a couple of our mates to voice act too. :)

Very very nice work! The vignettes were very entertaining, and the gameplay kept me engaged. That was a stellar job with the environment and concept as a whole. Great game!

Developer

Thanks so much! We really enjoyed your game too :D

Simply Awesome your game. The mechanics, audio and game design is really cool. I will waiting for next updates. For a game jam it is a great submission.

Developer(+1)

We're glad you enjoyed it! We're currently refining a few things and tweaking it to hopefully make it a bit more accessible so there will definitely be some updates

Submitted(+1)

This game is one of the most unique ones I've played until now in the jam. It fits the theme 100%, and I'm very impressed that you made all the assets, it was very immersive. I have nothing to say other than great submission.

Developer

Thank you for playing! We're glad you enjoyed it!

Man this is a great mechanic. I feel like it's real and it's a great game to play while doing something else. The tape controls work great, better then I expected. I also like that it's one word per tape, so I do go crazy thinking I missed something. Nice job, high ratings.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! It's interesting that you played it more like a podcast. That's not something we anticipated but it makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the feedback, we are glad you enjoyed it :)

The graphics and mechanics are awesome. If I may nitpick a tiny detail there: the spools in the tape seem to always show the same amount of tape left, no matter how far was played/rewinded.

It would be cool if you could provide some hints after the player turns in an incorrect sheet a few times. I did not understand (as in make out what was said exactly / or meant?) about the dog :/
(yes, the first tape after the training tapes, don't judge me :P)
do you have a some walktrough available?

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! We were going to have the spools change as it is played but we ran out of time to implement it (for now you can just imagine the recordings are in the middle of a really long tape)

We’re changing the whole system of how players are going to input their answers which should make it a bit easier overall.

We do give the player hints if they listen to the tape all the way to the end but giving them hints after some incorrect answers as well I s a good idea!

Sadly we don’t currently have a walkthrough but I can give you a hint: if you rewind back to when he is talking about the dog and fast forward then you should get the answer.

Again thank you for the feedback!

By the way.. if you wondered why I was focusing on those spools: it took me like two days to work that out in my game until I liked it ^^
(but my game was only 2D, and my actual solution was just using different sprites and masks.... well I guess it always look easy in hindsight ;)

Regarding that fast-foward: I understood something with .... Katey ? (I simply cannot make out what it is supposed to say)

Developer

Yeah we need to do a lot of balancing to get the audio really crisp for the answers just to make it really unambiguous. You are very close though! It isnt the name of a person though. It’s really hard to balance this sort of thing because everyone hears things slightly differently :’D

Submitted(+1)

this is really really awesome seeing another game with similar ideas! good work. I really love how you have to actually listen for code words and submit the hidden phrases. definitely coming back to this one!

Developer

It definitely needs a lot of refinement but I think we're going to release a post jam version that cleans it up a bit. Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Really well put-together game!  I loved the clean graphics and the individual cassette art.  The gameplay was also well done and the whole thing really embraced the theme.

Developer

Thank you! We're working on a post-jam version that's a bit more polished and that actually has an ending hopefully!

Submitted(+1)

I looking for game where you should work with tapes, but this. It is an amazing experience. I really like the sounds in the game, and the way you play with the speed. I pretty liked this game. Excellent art and gameplay.  A nicely done game.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the kind words! We're glad you enjoyed it

Submitted(+1)

This experience is full of inventiveness. Quite a "rewind" to the past of cassette tape recordings. Excellent voiceover work and well designs to incorporate training as part of the progression. I liked this experience a lot.

Developer

Thank you! We really like the idea but it is very rough around the edges at the moment. We're thinking of releasing a more fleshed out post jam version when the rating period is over

Submitted(+1)

Hi there! I liked your game! In particular, the individualized cassette tape art was a nice touch, the game itself had a clean look, and the audio was all superb. A lot of thought went in to the recordings, and the ways you find the hidden messages are clever. I found it a bit hard to stay engaged at times; I feel like you might benefit from more of the tape having hidden content; maybe each one has 3-5 hidden messages and you're scored for what % you find. I'd also have liked the difficulty to ramp up a bit quicker, but that's just me. I really enjoyed this, though, and kudos to the work your team did! I hope you get some more reviews, thanks!

Developer

Thank you for the nice comment! Originally when we were play testing most people found it was way way too hard so  we might have balanced it to make it a bit too easy for some players. I really like your suggestion about the scoring system for multiple words, it fixes the main problem we were having where people would always just assume there was one word per tape. Thanks again for the useful feedback!
