In what way does your game fit the theme?
There's a rewind feature in the game where you can go back in time and regain old stats and undo bad decisions.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
All except the font, which was 100% free for commercial use. I will link to it on the project page. :)

I think the problem is that it's difficult to play with your control.

You need to use one hand for direction (A and D), so it leaves the other hand to use a mouse, or space and R... and now R is far from there two.

First of all, at least to me, the game moves waaay too quick. I just kept dying in the first three seconds to walls I just had no time to see. I would have slowed the game down a bit, made the ship move slower aswell, allowing to be able to make strategic decisions with my rewinds. Plus I'd make holding down  the button to shoot continuously a possibility.

That said, it is a nice game that fits the theme, so great job!

We also made a space shooter if you'd be interested to try :)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! It is a little fast-paced, I had problems with that when play-testing it but I didn't have much time to fix it.

Np, its understandable. It's a jam after all! :D

This is a post about how I became the best Time is On My Side player of all time. So first off, I probably played this game for too long but that is a good thing. I was quickly hit the restart button every time I died to play another round.

Eventually I thought, I might not get a high score but I can at least get a really long time elapsed if I just keep using the rewind mechanic every time is available. I found out later this was is vain because the time elapsed time keeps running in the pause screen, but it did lead to some interesting finding. If you rewind enough the levels obstacles go off the screen. Okay, so now we are getting some where, I might just get this high score after all.

Next problems, the enemies are hard to kill so I kept dying even with out the obstacles. Well maybe just moving back and forth will help. Ehhh, not really. Okay, maybe staying still will help. Okay, this is a little better, but still not good. Then I had the oh wait moment. I realized, there either isn't or there is a really low limit on my rate of fire. So then I just started smashing the spacebar when enemies showed up on screen and there we go, now I am invisible.

After awhile my fingers got a little tired of smashing the space bar, so this is where the finally step of my plan comes in. I setup a quick macro to spam the space bar really fast and I toggle it on and off with the click of a button. This how I ended up here.

So jokes aside, I had a lot of fun with your game and it gets sort of addicting after awhile. I think if you clean up the bug with the rewinding, limit the players firing rate, and maybe up the fov of the camera so I can see farther ahead of myself (or slow down the scroll) this could be a really fun little game to play and comeback to every once and while. I could see me pulling out my phone to kill time with it or playing it while waiting for a steam game to download to try to climb for just a bit of a higher score.

Anyway thank you for the fun, and I hope more people can find this game because it is quite fun.

I love the graphics and idea but it is very hard to avoid everything. Nice game!

Cool retro feel!

OMG that was addictive. So hard too. Rewind definitely needs to be implemented. I liked the overall design and game play.

Please play and rate my game too if you can:

Quite hard ha! I liked it! But it could be a little bit less faster on the beginning to let the user get use to it dont you think?

I'll leave you my game if you want to test it out https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/724798

I got to 3648 after a few tries, I think I bugged out the purple blocks, they would disappear after only getting a third of the way down the screen. The green guys are WAY too difficult to kill without getting hit and in general I think the game is too fast paced. There were a couple of times that I died because I dodged out of the way of the first two enemies to spawn and they reached the bottom of the screen?!?

Made it to 2230 after a few tries. It's quite difficult but I enjoyed it. Spamming both left click and space helps with swarms of enemies :P The rewind mechanic is nice, but would be more useful if it was more clear to where you are rewinding and maybe caused a short time stop so you can make note to where you rewinded. Good job!

I thought the audio and visuals were really good! I am very bad at this game haha and it was fun to play.  Good game :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! It's looking like everyone's not that good at the game by looking at the comments, as I didn't fine tune a lot of the patterns and obstacles to be reasonably difficult. Glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

The biggest reason I died is that I would run into the blocks sideways because I would be trying to strafe over to a gap in the next row of blocks.

Developer

I had that problem too while playtesting it, I think I may either need to decrease the horizontal resolution to make it more navigatable, make the player faster, or re-do the obstacles (the latter of which will most definetly happen soon, because my god are they bad).

It was a very well done solid game! Congratulations, i feel like there could be more stuff like different weapons, but it was a blast to play, also for some reason WebGL build doesn't work, take a look into that! If you fix that more people will play!

I've reached level 17 with score 1463,  i suck so hard HAHA

Developer

Thanks! I was going to add power ups that did double-shots, faster shooting and all those other fun gimmicks, but I ran out of time unfortunately. I will look into what happened with the WebGL build as well, thanks for saying something about that.

Despite being quite difficult I still found the game to be wonderful and fun ;)

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it!

The game was fun but the rewind mechanic was a little confusing.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I was going to add an animation but I ran out of time for that kind of stuff and just needed to make everything function (I'm new to Unity, so it took me a bit longer to figure out). Nevertheless, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
