Really appreciated the art and attention to detail, the custom paricles and every animation feel really smooth.
Gameplay-whise I found a bit difficult to uderstand where I was during jumps (especially the diagonal ones).
The story is very interesting and entraitaining, and the mechanics are well thought and bring some fresh air to the genre.
Still a bit of bugs that had me restart the game to fix and some situations where I was not sure where I was supposed to go.
Awesome entry and good ideas, still need a bit of polishing.
A+ artwork and polish here. Loved the style and how the credit was shown along with the instructions as you play. I did run into a layering issue, the instructions to "press F" was covering the dialogue boxes. Other than that the visuals were amazing for such a short time period. Great work!
If you have a chance please check out and rate my team's entry "Beatdown Breakdown Boomtastic" : https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/928162 It's a rhythm-based brawler!
Amazing game. I love the perspective of the gameplay, it gives a nice feeling to the art style, however the perspective also made it hard to platform. It is hard to tell the edges of the tiles.
I was not able to finish it as I ran into a strange bug where I tried to switch between from keyboard to my dual shock controller, but as soon as I turned on my controller the character kept moving to the right in non ending fashion even when they dies, they were stuck on moving to the right. Could not really continue after I encountered that issue.
Really awesome art style! And great game :)
I liked your use of the masking for the dog's smelling stuff you can't see! Even though it seemed to have no effect for this part of the game, it was a great idea and has potential if you continue to work on the game.
I also really enjoyed the style in which you put the credits and small tutorial tips!
I have two notes - I hope you find them constructive:
- At least on my laptop the game didn't feel super smooth. Although it was not bad enough to degrade my experience of the game that much at all, I might have a tip for you: we experienced this as well when we had a lot of animation going on at once. What worked for us (we were using Unity) was to import the sprites with a slightly lower quality. At least to our eyes, the art was not affected, and the game was much more smoother. Maybe this will work for you? Or it might have just been my laptop?
- I found a bug! If I released the dog companion kind of on top of a wall in that area with the holes, he gets stuck there and cannot get him back! I will attach screenshot for you below.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
Hi Mark thank you very much for your detailed feedback and for playing the game!
Performance on my Macbook Pro 2013 wasn't good either while in Unity but was quite okay when playing the build. On what kind of system did you try to play it? We have most of our textures already on low quality because of that. + Thanks for the bug report!
PS: We added an WebGL version to itch.io which runs much smoother now if you want to give it another try with better performance.
Woooah the artstyle is fantastic!! This really creates a magic world to play in!
Althou I had a bit of a trouble getting used to the perspective in some situations.
I could look at the art of this game for hours and not get bored. The dog is too cute for me, now I want it as a real pet.
Gorgeous game. Nice music. Cute dog.
Very well done!
I did got buddy stuck inside the ladder somehow, but I managed to push him away.
Wow, this game is beautiful! I love the hand drawn aesthetic. Have you ever seen the yellow submarine? thats sorta what this reminds me of! I especially love how the vines look. As others have said, there is sometimes some issue with perspective, but other than that gameplay is solid. I couldn't progress after a certain point because buddy didnt show up when i pressed f, ill link the screenshot
Overall excellent game! It seems like you have a lot of cool gameplay ideas that I unfortunately was unable to actually play, keep at it though!
We love the Yellow Submarine from the Beatles and its really nice that our style reminds you of that.
Do you mean the thorn bushes? - because we're not sure which vines you are talking about haha. :)
That Buddy didn't showed up by pressing "F" wasn't a bug actually - Buddy can't jump and is afraight of heights so you need to carry him over by letting him jump on your shoulders haha. We should point that out in an extra dialogue or cutscene to be sure the player won't miss that.
We're really happy that you enjoyed playing our game anyways.
Game looks and sounds great! Like others have mentioned struggled a bit with the depth of the ground, maybe some shadows would fix this right up. congrats on the submission, brilliant work!
So much character in everything! It seems that there is a whole unique world somewhere outside the camera view. Not another generic fantasy/syfy (insert cliche name) world, but something really new.
There is a mistake in tutorial bubble: it says F for switching characters yet it's Q indeed.
The platforming and controls overall are quite awkward. I experienced some bugs, like companion not coming or getting stuck in a wall.
I personally would enjoy it much more if it was a game focused on exploring a beautiful world and telling a meaningful story.
Good luck and keep working! The big potential is obvious.
The graphisms are awesome but with the perspective the jumps are pretty hard.
The art sit huuuuuuuuu damn sick! Love it! I would be happy if you would test mine to :D
Looks absolutely stunning, really great art and artstyle. Though I would put less anticipation for the jump animation and add shading to some tiles to not seem confusing in this perspective. Other than that I really loved it. Hope Wilma and her buddy will set off for more adventures in the future!
