In what way does your game fit the theme?
I made up an acronym for CHAOS:
Can Hippos Achieve Outer Space??
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
everything on my own except for the music track (credits in page description)

This was not something I was expecting to find in a jam, very creative coming up with an acronym with the jam theme, really cool! Resulted in a game with a funny goal. The movement felt quite nice and smooth which improves how the game plays.
The art wasn't the best thing ever but there's something charming about it. The text for the upgrades seemed a little hard to read and I didn't realize the things like scales were needed to purchase some upgrades, if you could make those stand out a bit more, that'd be great!
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, the text got deprioritized, much to my now-sleep-restored brain. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate the feedback. It's tough to draw a line for myself with the pixel art. I know a lot of it should be improved, but I end up spending too much time on it otherwise. I think my biggest mistake was not setting a pixel scale for myself, so I ended up making them however I felt, then scaling as needed after the fact, making it look really inconsistent. Lesson learned though!
Interesting game, very chaotic gameplay. Good job. :)
Thanks for playing! :)
Really liked this entry. Some great progressive game design. I loved how in the early stages you could choose to use your collections as almost like a shield. As others have said, this game is very addictive. Great stuff all around, I had a lot of fun.
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was very excited about the pickups functioning sort of like health buffers. I'm glad you enjoyed that, too :)
5s across the board for this one.
Game design: chaotic and cool
fun: very, and the upgrades make sense and work amazing
innovation: genius Can Hippos Achieve Outer Space
Theme: that
Graphics: great, and ui looks good but the text doesn't, still 5 stars though
audio: music good
great job man this is by far my favorite game this jam.
Thank you so much for the high praise! I think just a few hours ago you said in discord that you hadn't given all 5s, let alone 4s, to any game yet lol. <3
I appreciate you and thank you for playing!
Great graphic and very interesting gameplay. The text font is really hard to read which is a pretty big deal for a game that involve a lot of reading like this but still a pretty good game!
Also I would love to hear your thought and rating on my game if you interested, please give it a try!

Yeah, the text got deprioritized and re-implemented poorly by my sleep addled brain. Sorry it gave you issues. Were you able to play in fullscreen with any better luck? Either way, thanks for playing. I really appreciate it :)
I've added your game to my queue.
yeah I can play in fullscreen
Amazing game and cool idea of collecting obstacles to upgrade. Only downside is that it is too addictive ;)). Good job!
I apologize, I will try to make it less addictive with the post-jam update ;P
Thanks for checking it out!
The rocket controlled really well and the game had a very satisfying progression to it. The art as well is very unique and nice. I liked the animated hippo on the screen lol. And I reached "TOO MANY COINS" haha
Ha, I guess I made the too many coins number too low because it sounds like a few folks have gotten there. Congrats and thanks for playing :)
One of the best games I've seen in the game jam! Super creative and well done!
Thanks for playing!
Wow! I spent a while to finish this game, and never got bored! Well done, dude. BTW, I got soo many coins, it became Too Many and the game crashed due to 64 bit limitations! Awesome game, one of the best so far!
Hahahaha, you BROKE it?? Well done! Yeah, I added the 'TOO MANY' as a joke, but didn't realize how easy it was to get there if one was persistent.
Thanks for playing, I appreciate it :)
The art style felt really personal and nice. Fun sound design! The rocket had a nice "weight" to it and was satisfying to handle. Great ideá with the upgrade menu to give replayability althought it was a little hard to read. Well done!
Thanks for playing! I'm glad to hear you comment on the feel of the rocket. That seems to be hit or miss with a lot of folks. I agree the upgrade menu is a bit tough. I think it's easiest in full screen, but I still should have given more care to the readability! Thanks for the feedback! I hope you enjoyed yourself :)
I really love the art and sound design. This game seems way more advanced and polished than most in the game and is really fun to play. Well done!
I really appreciate it if you could play and rate my game. Thanks!
Hey, thanks for playing. I appreciate your kind words :)
I've added your game to my play list!
This is really really good! I love the idea of hippos going to space, especially the way you mixed it with 'CHAOS'. This game is really fun to play, and I really appreciate that it saves my progress so that I can come back to it later. The hippo's expressions is a really nice touch.
Great Job!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing!
The hippo's reactions were a late add actually. I realized on the last day that my game about hippos going to space had frighteningly few hippos. I had to deliver on that! lol
Great work on the pixel art and gameplay, really unique and fun! Brilliant!
Thanks! And thanks for playing! I hope you enjoyed :)
I loved this game, played it longer than any other game! The controls were fun, the art was amazing, the replayability was awesome. high marks all around 5/5, except theme where I feel like it wasn't exactly chaos driven or themed. Still amazing job!
but CHAOS = Can Hippos Achieve Outer Space??? ;)
Thanks for checking it out and such high praise. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed yourself!
holy crap i missed that! Now its all 5/5!
Ha! No worries. I put the most work into the acronym so I couldn't let it go un-noticed :P
Pretty solid game. Loved the music and such. I would not put the options and upgrades off to the side. Also I think got an upgrade that I didn't click on so I don't know if I got it for spending 75 coins or what. The one main criticism I do have is that it feel like a lot is going on at one time on the screen. This might feel less that way if the camera was zoomed out more or something. It didn't make it feel unfair or anything just a lot. My first run I avoided things that was background objects because they look similar to foreground objects. Over all this would make a great mobile game. With some particles for fire and some improved animations i'd spend a few bucks to play something like this
Thanks for playing!
Yeah, I reused the sky rock assets a few times at the ground level and made them smaller, but they shouldn't have appeared after blast off. Sorry you had some bugginess with the upgrades. Do you think the side menus detracted from the experience? Where would you have put them? Just curious to see what others would do :)
And the fire (dragon and player) was all particle effects ;)
They didn't distract they made it feel unimportant. I mean I played like five times before I even really noticed it was there. The blast off screen would be the place to put it. It's not distracting there since it's between rounds, so that the perfect time to say hey look at me I can make you better. The bugginess I can't say for sure was a bug, but my not understanding if it was a bug or not for most players makes it a bug AND it wasn't a game breaking bug. Also I could have just been confused by the skill tree. Over all as I said it is not a bad game. The mechanics are solid i didn't feel that anything was unfair or cheap. Moving the camera out some i think makes it easier to plan, but not being able to plan could be a key part of the game. If you added a bit more animations to things and some nice particles and cool sounds you could literally put this on the market store and like do the charge a dollar for no ads and people will buy. Might not be the next minecraft but might get a couple cups of coffee.
It remind me of one flash game where you have plane and must cross on it ocean but in result reach cosmos and light speed.
Anyways your game is great! :)
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I took some classic inspirations. I loved those games as a kid and they feel forgotten to time. Glad you enjoyed yourself!
Looks amazing! Plays really well too. Very ambitious and it certainly paid off! Wish the text was easier to read, but otherwise awesome!
Thanks for playing! Yes, I failed on making the text readable (or even viewable in one case!) but I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. That's what I get for trying to polish at the 11th hour lol
We really enjoyed playing your game!
The graphics are cute and the music fits. We love the idea of using an acronym instead of taking "chaos" loterally. Very creative! It was a bit hard to get into the game fist, but once you got the hang out of it, its addictive and very fun! Good job!
Thanks for playing. I'm glad you enjoyed the game! One of my favorite pastimes is making up weird acronyms with my spouse, so getting to do that with a game jam gave me a good bump in motivation at the beginning.
What in your opinion made it a little hard to get into? Was there something that turned you off to the experience at first? Or did it not present as the type of game you normally enjoy?
I love the sprites you made! they look really good. Also the gameplay is on point :)
Thanks for playing! I appreciate your kind words :)
Ohhh I totally missed the acronym until I read the theme fit hahaha, niiice. And yes they can achieve it. That speed upgrade is key got me going into space in a second haha.
Is there a highest altitude reached somewhere? If not that would be nice to see. I was thinking maybe below the current altitude as a goal to beat.
Thanks for playing!
Y'know, highest achieved altitude is in the game. I just forgot to put it on the screen. That's what we get when my last day was 19 hours ending at 2am. And that's exactly where it was supposed to be, too ;)
