How does you game fit the theme?
Are you sure you are at a real place?

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
We made all the code but used external assets for some of the art.

Hey!

First of all congrats for finishing the game! It was a lot of fun to play it. I love the puzzles, the one with the desert was very tricky but I got it in the end and I finished the game too! It was really fun.

If you want some feedback, here's mine: I think you used different pixel art packs but the fact that some pixels are bigger than the others make the game look very inconsistent. Also, the player was not pixel art really. But other than that, it was a very enjoyable game and I love it. It shows how much work was put into it! Congrats to you!

I would love to have you playing mine too, if you don't mind of course! ^_^

Thanks, appreciate the feedback! I'll check it out, it looks cool!

Definitely an interesting setup for a game with this theme, although it does sort of fit obviously since technically paintings are not a "real" thing.  And entering the "world" of one is not "real", at least physically.  So it's an interesting take, assuming I';m understanding it correctly.

The level layout was nice and the menu design was pretty good.  Although I do have to say the game was a bit.. vague on what the goal was. to start off with, I did eventually figure it out, mainly after the first puzzle, but a bit of indication would've been helpful on that first one.

Also I do have to say the later ones do end up a little.. weird, in their complexity.  For example the Desert one has so many forms compared to any of the others, it would've been nice to see that mechanic elsewhere, but on that one specifically I do have to say ti was quite vague on what exactly you were supposed to do.  My assumption was that the oasis was a mirage so you were supposed to change it to night so that you could get there when it was "real".  Since mirages are created from the sun reflecting off the sand and so at night it shouldn't be a mirage, or at least from my understanding.

The final solution though was pretty weird, considering there's no in world visual indication to help you figure it out.  I would've a assumed that there would be at least something above the painting to indicate that there was a sprinkler.

Overall though, an interesting idea for the jam and a relatively well executed level setup with some quite interesting puzzle mechanics.  A nice mix of the two "worlds" throughout.  Though a bit more would be interesting.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

We couldn't do many test runs and forgot to include any clues for some parts of the game. The oasis at night shouldn't be there, but we noticed it too late (a few hours after the deadline).

I'm thinking about expanding the game later on, so maybe one day it will have a nice story, too.

Nice take on the theme, loved the concept. Some of the assets looked out of place but overall it pretty fun to play.

Thank you!

I like the concept of the game. The graphics are good as well. But I would add some parallax Background because without it looks a bit flat. Also some lighting would be good. The music is enjoyable. The game is short but that's not the main point and won't get in the rating... Good job

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We wanted to add these but run out of time...

Cool concept and fun game!

Thanks :D

I like this idea a lot. There's a lot of potential here, to the point where I could imagine it getting overwhelming, depending on how ambitious you would want to get. I'm glad I looked in the comments for the lighter puzzle. It was a really clever idea that just needed a smidge of a hint, I think.

One thing I would suggest is removing the platforming entirely. I felt like it got in the way of the cool painting stuff. I know you probably did it to make the game a little longer, but the painting stuff is a strong enough concept on its own that, even if its short, should be the main focus.

Very well done!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. There is indeed much potential in the painting mechanic and with the right  planning they could probably be used for some really fun stuff :D

I liked how the game focused on exploring the inner worlds of paintings. Thought it was pretty neat - reminded me of super mario 64.

Was vibing to the music and to exploring and then I got the the painting where you can turn the light on/off and turn the sun on/off (super cool). Got the lighter, and then got confused as to what I ought to do next. I know there is an oasis around, but it keeps dissapearing. Not sure how to make fire :(

Neat game though!

Developer

I'm happy that you liked it :)

Here's a hint / spoiler for you (and anyone who's also not sure what to do):

Try taking back the lighter to the painting where you travel to the desert and use it there.

the gameplay reminded me of simons quest how you have to get items to open up other areas. loved it

Thank you, appreciate it :D

Nice game! I like the general concept it's a good start to a fun game. Some stuff was quite finicky though and more of a story would be nice

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you liked the general concept, and the game would probably have more content if we had more time.

There's a cool idea here which is lightly touched upon, but needed more diving in. I can see how "Visit paintings" could quickly lead to overscope! I think this may have been better if there was less platforming, or a clearer goal for the player (Was I supposed to be escaping the museum?)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback.

A bit of spoiler ahead:

It is possible in the game to get out of the museum.

Liked the fact that depending on the time you pressed the jump button it jumps higher or lower, however the gravity needs a lot of tuning, felt I was in the moon. Some of the objects I didn't know I could jump, so they need some tipe of clue to tell the player they can be stepped on. I played with a controller and it worked perfectly, but I would change the "visit" button to be the same as the "interact" button, but definately not the up arrow.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Player controls need some tuning indeed, but I'm glad that it worked well with your controller :D

I would have to lie if I would say I played the whole game BUT! I like the idea.

My first impression was that this would be another rectangle platformer ^^ and yes for the player that was true, BUT! The Art style within the painting is definatly not :D well done on the Art, lighting and sounds.

I would recommend next time to make the jump less floaty but overall this did not disturb my impression on the game ;-).

Developer

Thanks, man :D Really appreciate the tips!
