How does you game fit the theme?
The player goes in with a false mindset of helping a friend with their game but they end up going on a journey that may not have happened.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
We wrote all the code ourselves but used some tutorials found online. As for assets we created most of them but used premade assets for some of the work. Anything we used is credited in the credits as well as on the itch.io page.

This is one of the best games I played in this jam so far, I liked it very much! Well done!

That's such a great job !

Wow. Really impressive and creative concept that was executed very well.

The "key" puzzle threw me off for a while. I didn't realize I could drag files and put them in folders at first.

A notepad program in-game would have been nice. Would have made deciphering codes and remembering names feel more immersive.

Sound design felt like it had some missed potential. it wasn't bad per se, but I felt like it could have better conveyed the desktop OS feel.

I liked the twist at the end. Good job!

Developer

thank you for your input, its much appreciated,  will consider for next game

really interesting take on the theme, the game is really creative you have broken new ground here! it  the making to be a great full length game. I really felt like I was in a movie felt a little lost at the start thought, a little more direction at the start would be nice to help the player figure out what needs to be done. keep at it hope to see it on steam...

don't forget game when you get a chance.

thank you so much, means a lot

I really like the concept. The game within the game idea is neat, with having to "fix" the game to progress. I haven't seen anything else like that in the jam. Good job :)

Developer

thank you

Really cool idea! I figured out how to log into the account, but didn’t know where to apply the cypher. I could play the game-in-the-game, but could not figure out where to get the key to open the gate. I figured I needed to do something to fix that outside of the game-in-the-game. In the code editor, I tried stuff like setting the timescale to a really high number, but that wasn’t recognized as a correct code. Could not figure out what code to add there to make it work.

All in all, really great work!

Developer

hey, sorry to hear your having trouble, the key for the gate is a file you have to transfer over to game file, adding a key in-game, the cipher is for the piece of paper in the graveyard, which leads to the code to input into the code file, then add to game file then export all, hope this helps, lmk if you need anymore help

Reading back my review, it seems that I left out some other observations I had:

  • really cool that you made a game in a game!
  • the graphics and feel of both the outer and inner layer game are so awesome
  • I love that you went with a non-obvious concept and let the player figure stuff out

Thanks for the extra help!

I love the narration and the puzzles are AWESOME. The only problem is that sometimes clicking on apps won't open them.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thanks, as long as your double clicking most should open but yeah for the most part it was just our timeframe for not completing everything, but thanks for playing

The main concept is awesome - and the game design is really well made. The puzzles were fun. Great job!

I'm sorry, but I can't download this entry because I have a Mac.

I apologise, but good luck in the jam!

Developer(+1)

It's ok, best of luck to you too

This was a great concept for the jam! The whole "game within a game" was neat, and I loved the series of puzzles that you sprinkled in through the different interfaces. The idea of the first part of the game not happening was also very cool! The only gripes I have are that the pixel font could have looked a little cleaner, and that there also could have been some more audio. Still, congratulations and good job!

Developer

Thank you, and yeah this was definitely a learning process.

This game is so clever, and you executed on the concept really well! I love games like this that allow you to explore instead of putting everything right in your face. Great work!

Developer

thanks a lot

Nice puzzle game, they are pretty tricky, hints would be useful. Nice job

Developer

Hey thanks for playing, I tried putting all the clues in the mail box and chat messages, wasn't sure how easy to make it, but now I know, Thanks for your input.

Awesome Game!

I always love these types of pc desktop inside of a game. There really fun! This game also has some really good puzzles! Only thing I would recommend is maybe some hints (I have to do this for my game too lol) and also to just increase the resolution for some of the assets, especially the X button.

Another thing was I could not tell if I had completed it after putting in the code and then dragging the code folder into the game one and clicking export nothing happened. Im not sure if this was supposed to be the end or I missed something if it is the end there should be something saying that and if its not hints would definitely be a good addition.

Last thing that;s really minor is that the window dragging part did not work very well and was buggy most of the time.

Other than those few problems I really like this game! One of my favorites of the jam!

Developer (2 edits)

Hey, sorry to hear you did not finish, maybe this might help, all the hints and clues are in the mailbox and chat messages, once you find the answer to the code file, you enter it in and should say successful, then drag and drop into game file, then drag and drop to export, every time you enter text it should be all caps, hope this helps and yeah understand for the window menu being buggy, had to be finish on time, lmk if I can help further,

Thanks for trying.

Submitted

Oh thanks! I did not realize you had to drag the game folder into the export button, I thought you had to click it.

Reminds me of classic metal gear puzzles, but the 4th wall remains intact!
