Fun game.

Here's mine: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-8/rate/1675396

First off, amazing job on the sprite work, and the animations are well done too! The ammo system is pretty good, too, it sort of gives some sense of strategy in the game, wanting you to be careful of your ammo. Although, there isn't too many sounds, and the music got a bit annoying for me. Other than that, great job! :)

Developer

Thanks! The environment sprites were from Kauzz, and character sprites were from Jere Sikstus, although I did have to animate the player and zombies. We didn't have much time to add many sounds, but I think we'll add more in the future and different background music as well.

Wow I liked the way you use lighting in the game, and the atmosphere felt just right! the only thing that I think can improve is that the flair gun lights the background more than the ground.

Developer

I'm glad you liked the game! I actually think the lighting with the flare gun can be fixed fairly easily, thanks for that feedback.

Good work! Really polished in all aspects, very well done.

Developer

Thank you! We'll be working on it later on! So come back!

Character animations were definitely tough, I spent a lot of time trying to get them down since this was my first time being the designated art guy for a project. But having pre-existing art from Jere Sikstus and Kauzz really helped, I just had to animate the player and zombies.

Great game! The gun doubling as the light source made some nice risk reward decisions of whether or not you should maybe see a zombie or save your ammo. The melee weapon was a bit too underpowered in that you couldn't get a hit off on enemies without being hit unless you do a weird forward back forward stab pattern. Was also a bit weird that the tutorial for movement appeared after you have to use the movement buttons to get over there

Developer

Thank you for playing! You bring up a good point about the first tutorial haha. Thank you for the feedback! We’re going to work on this game in the future and we’d be glad to have you back!

Nicely done, especially the light effects.

The balancing is a little off but other than that fun game

Very well done in all aspects.

Fun game reminded me of jill of the jungle an old PC game back in the day, the flare effect was really cool very original!

The game is very well made. I like the animations. Tutorial is cool - a ghost speaking in the game. I love the style of art - and background is really cool! Mechanics are great, but one time I had to little time to pick up a weapon and zombies attacked so I died. I enjoyed playing it and had fun! The map is huge! It would be nice if you added running. You did a lot in a week!

Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Most of the art and background was from Kauzz's Pixel Valley. It worked really well for a tilemap in Unity! We might add running or some sort of dash in the future so you can get around the map quicker.

Thank you! Yeah we do feel the movement is going to need some improvement! We plan on working on the game after the jam, keep an eye on our project and we'd love to have you back!

This game is surprisingly long for a game made within a week, which is awesome (I explored the whole map)! Unfortunately, at some point there was a wall without collision that lead me to an infinite fall into the void, so it would be cool if there was a reset button.

Another thing I enjoyed was the variety of weapons present in the game and the many strategies you could choose from with them (builds). As a RE4 enthusiast, I chose the dodge and melee only route, switching to fire weapons only when absolutely necessary. I also noticed that headshotting enemies dealt more damage than just shooting their bodies, which shows that you've paid attention to the details while developing your game!

My only issues were that I couldn't run (would be useful for going through the places I already explored) and that the music is repetitive.

Overall, the game is very polished, fun and big. A great entry for sure!

Developer(+1)

yeah lol, i found the wall glitch last minute and couldnt fix it, sorry for that! thanks for the feedback! we will update the game after the jam so if you do want to come back and play a more less buggy and more polished version definently come back in a week or two

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We wanted the player to be able to make choices on what weapons to get based on how much they liked them. Melee only is hard, but once you get the hang of it it's actually really fun!

We may add more movement options (like a sprint or dash) and different background music in the future. Check back sometime after the voting period is over for the next version!

I loooove the pixel art style, always loved it and always will. Great job in that field. Also saw some comments about the controls, to me it feels completely fine. And also the sound/music really fits the theme.
Good job overall!

Thank you for the kind words! We plan on working on the game more after the jam so feel free to come back!

Game is cool and the visuals are nice. Movement controls feels a bit clumsy to me, but all the other stuff is great

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! How can we make the movement controls less clumsy? We plan to update the game after the jam is done, so we like all the feedback we can get.

Submitted

Well, it's not a big deal and it might be just me, but I felt like the jump was a bit late to my pressing. Also, the sound of melee attack (especially with axe) is a bit early (imho).

Cool!
