Neat game! My main gripe is the feeling that the pacing was a bit off. It felt like the game was moving way too fast after the first episode. Also, the abrupt THE END screens were a bit off-putting, but not in a horror way, more so annoying. I did enjoy it overall though, so good job!

FULL PANCAKE NICE JOB

So it's the first horror game I played on this jam, and honestly it reminds me of those really bad .exe games played by YouTubers like Luigikid. But I like this one more, just because of the dark humor thrown at it.

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!:D

Relived happier times when a man could enjoy a simple jam pancake in the comfort of his own home.

I'm confused. Nice idea, but it didn't seem to go anywhere. Tricking the player is rarely a good design choice.

Developer

Sorry about that haha. If you got confused by the story, feel free to ask anything about it. :D

Pancakes Recipe
Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, or more to taste
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • egg

Directions:

Sift flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and add milk, melted butter, and egg; mix until smooth. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or pan over medium-high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake; cook until bubbles form and the edges are dry, about 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and cook until browned on the other side. Repeat with remaining batter.

Cool story, nice implementation of the theme. I also liked the graphics.
I would prefer not to use my mouse for dialogues tho.
Nice work!

Thank you!

Your game has a very interesting story to tell! Great work! I like how you have those early ending scenes then it's just a tease lol

I liked it enough to play twice and change my answer, hoping to grasp more of the story, but I'm not sure there is anything more to understand? The comment didn't help me either, is there something more? ^^'

Also I feel like it's an easy take on the theme, but it's a good game nonetheless :)

Developer

Thank you! If you have any questions about the story, feel free to ask. :D

Like... What happened exactly? Am I dead? Locked in a room? My old room? Is there a previous game? Who's the guy that killed me? D=

Developer(+1)

well - A chef killed you and most of your family’s members. The game plays in your dream, as one of the texts stated that your brain can still stay awake after the heart stops beating for around 7 minutes. There is a theory that your entire life plays back in that 7 minutes just like a dream. The cooking show is your “dream”, and the random flashbacks such as your room, and that city street is a part of your real life. (also the cooking show’s main director was the chef who killed you.) I’m sorry that I couldn’t really tell the story in the game, but anyways it was a fun experience to make it.:D

I understood some of it, so it's a win IMO :D GJ!

Haha I feel sry for the people who think this is only a cooking simulator and quit early!

Making a story game is always challenging during jams! Congratulations on finishing it!

Developer

It is definitely a cooking game! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I see we have a take on the "innocent game becomes twisted" idea for this jam, and I love it!

The graphics, sound and droplets of story were sublime. If you told me that you spent a month on this rather than a week, I'd believe you.

The gameplay was somewhat basic, but since that's not the selling point of this game, I don't mind it.

Very good job on this one!

Surprisingly story-rich game lol, I was expecting a lot less :) The sprites look innocent, which fit the story quite well. Just for the story and the humor, this might be one of my favorite/most memorable games from this jam. Great job!

I’m glad you enjoyed it! :D
