How does your game fit the theme?
When the potato dies, a new potato spawns and you have to start over again. At some point you have to sacrifice a potato to unlock new areas to continue playing.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
All is done by me and my friend, except the blurry backround and the stones

I tried the game but the game didn't fit on my screen, so I couldn't see the instructions to advance and the stones are placed in such a way that the player has to fall on them at least once

Developer

You can adjust the size of your browser screen to fit the game

This is a nicely polished game.  The idea of a potato running around the sharp rocks is a funny concept.  I would suggest selecting a different button for dash.  I tried both WASD and Arrows for basic movement and neither felt like a natural combination with X.  My best performance was with WASD-Space with left hand, and then just use my right hand index finger on X to dash.

As a platformer, this required a lot of precision movement.  For me the game was very difficult to make progress.  The visuals and audio went really well together.  I liked the object permanence for the potato shreds on the ground.  For the dash and death sounds...did you record some swishing sounds with your mouth?!  They were great.

Great submission.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I took the movement controls from Celeste and for me it feels really natural, but I should've definitively added another button for dash. And yeah, I made the sound effects with my mouth :D

I appreciate the variable jump height, but maybe movements still need some improvements, maybe clamping the fall speed. I think the spikes are a little hard to differentiate with the background, a white outline could work. Overall, Great game! :)

Thank you :)

Seemed fun, I am just bad at platformers and couldn't get very far. My hands are also either too small or not flexible enough to easily reach X while using WASD.

Developer

Thanks! WASD isn't really the intended way of playing this game, you are supposed to play with the arrow keys and X but thats totally my fault, I should've bound another button to the dash

OMG your character controller was great so snappy and loved the slowly moving down walls mechanic! Can see it being part of a skill base platformer. The only issue with it was because the camera was so zoomed in it was a bit hard to plan your jumps/dashes. Also the controls, having X as the dash made it hard for me to press I ended up having to have my left and right hand really close together maybe making dash j or x that way left and right handed people can play the same. Overall though great character controller and art.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! :)

The controls didn't feel super good to me. I prefer to use wasd, but I couldn't really since I had to press x to dash. Maybe that's all that was throwing me off, but i also felt that the force you get when wall jumping was a bit much. It was hard to control. I also felt like coyote jumping wasn't implemented, however it's pretty tough to tell if it is. If you've never heard of coyote jumping you should definitely look it up. It's pretty easy to implement and it makes platformers feel a lot better. The jump felt good though, and the player speed was good. Also, IDK what you did for that potato death sound but you nailed it. Most player death sounds are very loud and intense, but yours is the opposite and it really made me feel like I had just squashed a potato. That made me laugh. Good job :)

Thank you for the great feedback! Yeah I didn't get the walljumping to work as I wanted to and coyote jumping is definitively missing. I should have bound the dash to another button aswell I guess. Also funny how the death sound is good because I didn't have time to make one so I just reused the same I had used in my two previous games. 😄

Extremely difficult but super fun! It's basically like my game but more potatoey. Cool!

Developer

Thanks! :D

Wow this game is punishing, even on Easy mode. :) Over 50 potatoes later, I probably only made it to the start of the drop area about 5 times. It would've been cool to have more checkpoints.

That said, the potato looks awesome and I want to be them. I want to take them out to dinner - not as dinner - and learn and smell the horrors they and their family have endured. Love the color scheme and lighting effects too. It's a lot of fun to watch, just difficult for me to play on a keyboard.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I definitively made it too hard

Very well crafted! The level design makes it a challenge but at the same time very fun to play! The music matches very well the environment and the game genre. I really like the particle effect of the death events, and the dash animation was really plescent to see when you did that action. Overall a great game that I trully enjoyed playing! Keep up the good work!

Cool game, I really liked the graphics and the music and sound effects along with the timer really got me to speedrun mode,  the learning curve is a bit too stip, I don't know if this support be a rage game but in the tutorial section I died like 10 times so maybe I'm just bad but when teaching someone the controls it should be in a safe environment so they can mistake, other than that cool idea and I had fun, good job!

Developer

Thank you for the great feedback! The game is definitively too hard and I should've made the tutorial easier, but I am happy you had fun! :)

could dash because of key placement

Developer

Do you mean couldn't? Its not hard if you use arrow keys

Graphics look pretty good and the movement is pretty snappy. Something I would change is how you dash. Maybe you can press Left Shift to dash in the direction youre moving instead of X? Nonetheless, it was pretty fun, good job!

Developer

Thanks for the great feedback! I play Celeste and I used the same controls because they feel really good so thats why its X, but I should've bound it to other keys aswell. Thanks for playing! :)

Submitted

ohhh, celeste uses X too? I only played it with a controller so i didnt know lol

The game was a fun experience and it had a good graphic, the only thing I would change is the key to dash, maybe the right or left mouse key. All in all a good game.

Developer

Thanks!

Thanks! I am happy you liked it

Fun and very hard. I wish there was an option to have dash somewhere on the right side of the keyboard (WADS user). I really enjoyed the music and it felt right for the game. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your nice feedback! Yeah I could've made another keybind for the dash, I guess I am just so used to Celestes controls that I didn't think of that. Anyways I'm happy you enjoyed it! :)
