Hey, for a first game jam it's a good start! In terms of being a platformer, it definitely is that. In terms of being a horror platformer, maybe a little less so. Honestly at first I thought it was gonna be a throwback to Scary Maze lol, not that I wanted that, but it would have been cute. I know the horror was in the twist at the end, but maybe making the visuals a bit creepier, or adding some subtle hints that hint towards the twist (monster footsteps, grunts here and there) could have helped a tiny bit.

The platforming feels good though! A little punishing to have to start from the beginning when you fall, but only a little. It wasn't that big of a deal, I'm just not a pro gamer and had to start over a couple of times :P

Developer

Thanks! I actully spent a day trying to make the player respawn at the correct level  (because the player death is actully another scene) but was unable, so I use time on other things. I agree with the sound effects, thats a cool idea! As most people have said it doesn't fit the catagory of 'Horror' to well, Probably should have spent more time working on the theme.

Submitted

Needs a bigger theme tie in, the twist at the end was fun, and I enjoyed playing it though!

Developer

Thanks! I agree that it doesn't fit to well, Definitly should have dedicated more time on that.

Great first game! I agree with the other comments, being able to look around would be a huge improvement.

One note on the movement: when you are moving diagonally then jump then land while holding W, your character continues to slide a bit in the original left/right direction. If you jump diagonally then land while not holding any movement keys, however, you stop instantly. Not a huge deal, but I think that might be contributing to what people are describing as the movement feeling odd.

Developer

Interesting. I belive your correct, so thank you for finding that small issue. I would agree completely with you. Thanks for playing my game! Also I'm currently unaware of how to make the camera move with the mouse but that would be a huge inprovement, so I should probably learn that too. Just didn't get enough time.

The controls in this game... I really liked them! I don't know how you did it, but they honestly felt very intuitive and buttery smooth. I never overshot where I was going and I always felt like I could make the character do what I wanted. There was something decently creepy about the atmosphere of jumping into a black void with random piano keys being pressed in the background. :) I'm also SUPER impressed with how many levels you put together.

Good job!

Thanks! If your wondering about the how the controles work it just adds a force to a rigidbody, but I got some of my freinds to play and they helped me find tune the controles. The player is a capsule but it has another capsule collider thats a trigger thats got some room, so if your just above a platform your input will get reconised. I'll try to exsplain a little better if your interested. Thanks for playing and rating my game!

Whoa, that's actually really cool. Thank you so much for telling me about that; I'll have to try it!

I think this is a stretch to put it this type of game into the horror genre. I think more would have to be done with an active monster or something trying to impede you getting to the finish.

I didn't quite like the controls of not being able to look around. The movement also felt quite odd in general.

Developer

I agree that an active monster would have been good, or even a time level or something to force you to be quick. I didn't know how to make the camera move around but probably should learn to. Thanks for playing my game though!

Hey, that was fun! The controls weren’t too slippery; they felt clean and nice to use. The fact that you couldn’t look around (as far as I could tell. Maybe i’m just a dingus) made it harder than expected but not in a bad way. This was a cute little bug-free platformer, and I liked it! More goofy than horror, but still fun :D

Developer

I thought about making the camera move with the mouse but decided to just make the levels work with the camera. Probably should learn how to do that! I tryed to keep the game small so I could limit the amount of bugs I got.

My fellow commentators have already pointed out everything I would have said, so just a quick congratulations for finishing your first jam :)

Developer

Thanks for playing my game though!

I enjoyed this game! No bugs in sight and a fun challenge. Maybe the horror theme was kinda in the background, instead of apart of the gameplay, but still a fun game!

One thing I wish is that you maybe added some moving obstacles or time-based obstacles like spikes that pop up once every 3 seconds. Because I felt that the game was quite easy, and maybe a sound effect when you jump and land :)

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I was planning on making some sound effects but with some time issues irl I submitted my game a little early and didn't get time for sound effects (spent ~2 hours getting WebGL to work too). I also considered adding moving obsticals but ended up deciding against it and keeping the scope as small as possible.

Game didn't feel scary - it feels more like a platformer with some spoopy trappings. However, the game has no bugs that I found and the gameplay is fun. It reminds me of those old CoolMathGames platformers.

Developer

Yea, I felt like the Horror aspect was lacking but couldn't figure out what else to do as I had at most 3 hours a day so it's unfortunate I couldn't put more time into the game. I agree with your comment and will try to inprove on my second ever game jam.

Submitted

It's an awesome first effort, man - especially for your first game jam. Definitely keep at it.

In all, this game was pretty fun, I did not encounter any bugs and good job! my one and only critique is that it isn't that scary but I don't mind that as gameplay-wise the game is fun to play.

Developer

I do agree that the game didn't fit the theme of "Horror" to well, if I were to continue development I would 100% make the game more Horror related. Thanks for the feedback & Playing my first game!

ok so, is this game a horror game? no, its a Platformer marketet as a horror game. is it fun? eh no, the controls feel bad and it just looks bad. what about Gamedesign? well it works, its not good but it works. now to the good parts: the starting skript is the best part, sadly i wasnt able to find anything better. but it still is way better then DreamWorld so good job!

Developer

Being better than DreamWorld is like being able to "Jump" over a pebble in a high jump compition. Anyway I'm glad I had a shot at making a game and will continue to develop games, given the time. Thanks for playing my game though!
