Artistic Statement / Use of Theme(s)
This game attempts to inspire future climate activists, but also warn them of dangers that lurk and in particular the importance of maintaining good public relations. Due to all the hardships that someone who wishes to make a change must face, we did not shy away from adding a bit of sadness to the atmosphere.

Development Summary
Krafter started with intention of doing the jam solo, he came up with prototype on pieces of paper and played around with it. The original idea was for the game to be set in 2034, where after the WW3 the people have became a bit smarter and formed a World Union, but were still having doubts about climate change. The idea was scrapped as there was no way to properly produce such setting, and so the present day was chosen.

Eventually, Krafter realised that there is no way to do all the graphics, so he teamed up with Ace, who did a great job in giving some charisma to the game with their art style. Some days after, Kira Todorova asked if anyone needs a musician and was quickly absorbed into the production, providing her musical talent that helped the game set a more serious tone for such serious topic.

Making such a game in plain JavaScript with HTML and CSS was a challenge, though situation would be pretty much the same even if a game engine was used. Krafter kept looking for ways to spice up the endgame and is to this day not perfectly happy with results, but the game is good enough considering it is meant to be played in short sessions. In particular, Speedrun difficulty is an experience of its own, most recommended as soon as basic game rules are figured out.

Release Plan
As both artists wish to improve their work, that part will be updated for sure. I will continue to work on gameplay if the game manages to attract some daily random players. The game could also have a desktop release using Electron for example.

  • The music was excellent and the graphics were very well done!
  • I wish I had some more instructions at the beginning of the game so II had more context and understood what I was doing
  • The game felt very luck-based at times

I thought that this was a really unique way of depicting climate activism and broadening your reach. I think the mechanics are really simple and approachable, although it did take a little bit of time to understand what was going on, so some sort of tutorial/onboarding process would be nice. I also really liked how the game starts off really straightforward, but gradually gets more complex with the introduction of various event cards and special cards, and forces you to pay closer attention to the game’s mechanics.

The art style is really cute and I love the gameplay and how the cards highlight past and present strategies used for activism. It's a really cool learning experience.  The only issues I had with it were that the banner would hide the top and I had to switch to a bigger monitor to see the "start" button for the game.

Nice art in the game. I would have liked there to be an option to re-read what a card does after you have drawn it since there are times when it disappears. I would have also liked an option to deselect a card also to make the highlight around the spaces brighter to make it more noticeable. There could also be points where once the board has filled up you have to continue drawing until you get a card that allows you to remove cards from the board. Also like how easily replay able it is.

This one was a treat to play, especially seeing that it was made in plain Javascript (and HTML and CSS but those are part of the package)? Very impressive. When the game started I was very concerned about whether I'd be able to hit 1000 points but the game does a fantastic job of building up your points until it becomes evident that this goal isn't as insurmountable as it seems. One piece of feedback I have is that some of the cards that give you points in the global deck are a bit too strong; I was able to win in just one turn with a card that gave me +500, and I was sad cause I really wanted to play more! It would also be nice if the VFX to show that you need to draw a card were a little more apparent, since there were a couple of times where I wasn't able to draw a card and it wasn't clear at the start what I needed to do. That said, my disappointment at the high point card was because this game really was fun to play. I'm going to give it a spin on hard mode too!

Yall did great one this one! Overall its great solid gameplay easy to understand and pretty fast passed and has a cool card/art system! The only thing i would recommend would be a tutorial and seeing what the decks are, atleast on webpage version it cuts the decks off by over half and its hard to tell what they do. And for the tutorial things like advancing from local all the way up increasing point value for those locals would be a good thing to mention.

a well made card game with some interesting mechanics, and a decent amount of variety for a jam entry. there’s a lot of room for the imagination to go wild with what’s going on behind the abstraction of cards.

while most of the mechanics were solid, I found the drawing to be weird, as I felt like I was constantly topdecking — there was still some strategy to how I played, but I think the strategy would be more interesting if there were more choices to make in terms of which cards to play. other than that, this feels very polished!

as an aside, I encountered an issue on Firefox where the top of the game was hidden behind the jam submission banner (see screenshot below) — I was able to solve this by inspecting the HTML and deleting the element.

Solid game, congrats! It was fun to discover the cards with some combinations that would even suggest some storytelling about the "type of activist you are" (but it was hard not to min-max things haha). I only played the easy mode. I was a bit confused at first UX wise about card placements (if there was any impact in placing the cards at specific spots within each scope). It doesn't seem to be the case. Some events felt brutal (removing all of my cards) but also there might have been some quirks when I didn't have enough cards to fit the initial requirements (say, I have 8 hypocrisy but only have 6 cards deployed). A random idea: I don't know if you have archetypes for the activist but this could bring to you some special sets (like the "poet/artist activist" vs the "political orator activist" etc.) with some possible combos, and ways for you to add "decks" and build up multiple levels with different challenges. I also wonder if the music could change when you unlock a next scope.

Thanks for playing! You recognized well that it is meant to be a roleplaying game in a way, though putting more emphasis into that was out of scope for time (willpower) that was available. Those with active imagination will make stories though, as you did.

Nice card strategic card game. i jsut wish there was a tutorial stage that can explain the mechanics a bit more .For some reason I could not put cards on the slots and i  had to draw at three cards to play one kinda strange . Does the alignment affect the game in way or is it like a end game scoring kind of thing

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing. You have to draw three (when text says "DRAW 3!") when you run out of cards in hand. The alignment is difference between number of emotional and intellectual cards, which only matters for one World card that awards a lot of impact if this alignment is close to neutral.
