The core game programming was done in mid 2020 i think but never polished till Jan 2022 when a different 'story' was conceived, varied controls and when high scores tables were also added

Really nice variation on Minesweeper! The sound design was fun and the clown theme was very effective. I liked the way the numbers gradually spread out when you click a square, along with the sound build up, it added a great sense of tension. Well done!

It's minesweeper, alright. The "adjacent squares" (I think ctrl+click in the original) button is missing, as well as the "?" option; the zeros add clutter, and monochrome numbers make it harder to understand the board quickly. Being able to click on spots already flagged is not ideal.

A "random start" that always chooses a 0 square would have been a big improvement. On the other hand, the leader board is a nice addition.

Sorry if that sounds harsh. I played a lot of minesweeper as a kid, so the differences really stood out to me. I did enjoy it, if you can't tell from the leader board.

Thanks for the playing and I appreciate any and all feedback.
I've not played the other game for years or possibly decades so the game is based mainly on my memory and test playing.
I did a quick look online for percentages where I happened to see that it probably started with a clear first shot so quickly put a button option in. I didnt go as far as to see if it should be a 0 or not (though did wonder) which may have taken a little bit more of a effort to implement!
And with Reset and Undo options I thought that covered things enough to be playable.
I see I'm still top of one high score table! For now.... I like  a challenge ;-)

A nice take on minesweeper but the undo button doesn't give it the old style and challenge of the game, the menus for when you have too many balloons and getting a game over really confused me.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback.
Originally the Undo option was a secret and put in for me testing.
I realised I used it a lot so why not put it in.
You are punished with a time penalty if you do use it and of course you dont have to press it on death.
Next time Im in the game I'll check the messages and see if I can make them clearer.

This is a cool and nostalgic take on Minesweeper. I like the general quality improvements and the unique twist on it. My only issue was that the player isn't protected on the first box, and there were several times when I'd start a new game, and the first box I clicked was a game over. That's why I'm thankful for the Undo and Restart options that you added.

Great work on this!

Please check out and rate my game. =)

Developer

Thanks for laying and for the feedback.
There is a button on the menu screen (bottom right) called 'Random Start'.
It's defaulted to off but if you switch it on it opens a start square for you - sometimes it helps, sometimes not so much!

Ah Minesweeper with a twist! Coll idea and the clown aesthetic was pretty haunting not gonna lie but the horror was part of the charm.

Submitted(+1)

I like how it was a twist on a game that's already been done to the point where it's actually its own game. Magnificent job!

Clean and simple homage to minesweeper, good job

ultra clean! bravo it's been 20 years since I've set foot in a mineswiper thank you for the nostalgia!

Nice refresh of Minesweeper. Definitely liked the extra polish it had, liked the graphics and audio, although when you clear a bunch of tiles at once the sound effects kind of clashed together. Clearing a large area of tiles could be sped up, so it's less annoying to some players and gives a more satisfying feeling when a large area is gone at once. Also, perhaps it's just me, but I prefer not seeing the 0 tiles because it is much clearer which tiles can be completely ignored.

Overall, nice game!

Fun refresh of an old classic. The visual and audio reveals were fun, without getting in the way of the gameplay. Good job!

I really like the sound design and juciness to the grid reveal when you click an empty space - it's much better than the original Minesweeper. The high score tables weren't working for me, though.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and letting me know.
Seems like  the high scores are working with Firefox but not Chrome or Edge when I try.... that's annoying

Submitted

I was using Firefox so it's still a mystery.

I just realised I was script blocking flasheddierocks.com but even when I switched that off it still wouldn't contact the score tables so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is.

Developer

OK. Thanks for letting me know. Useful to know.
How do you script block something in case others are doing it without realising?
The other browsers may have tighter security on the scripting side talking to each other so going to try improving/changing that...

Submitted

I've got both NoScript and (an old version of) Privacy Badger running as addons. I have NoScript set to block almost everything until I say otherwise.

Developer

Hopefully I've fixed the back end now so if you have time to try again that would be great.

It's working!

Great, thanks for letting me know and about the issue in the first place (no one else did!) and for trying again. Appreciated.

sadly just a grey-screen:

Developer

Odd - what browser are you using as it's still working fine on my Firefox?

Submitted

Chrome. After 5min still nothing happened... :f

Developer

That's a shame - just tried it on Chrome and it came up pretty much straight away.

Was probably a problem on my side, got it working :)

I used to play this game (Minesweeper) a lot as a kid and I haven't played it since then. Thank you for bringing back a lot of fun memories, I had a great time playing it now :)

Cool minesweeper! I really like the sound when you clear out a bunch of empty spaces at once
