Very innovative orbiting and shoot mechanic. I like the music, graphics and the smooth movement. It is quite challenging but still enjoyable.

Well done!

That's a really fun game, congrats! I really enjoyed the mechanics, and shooting moons at planets is quite funny :)

In later levels I did feel that my success was mostly due to chance, as it was a bit difficult to devise proper strategies with so many asteroids or friendly moons close to the black hole. But I still had fun and succeeded.

Developer

Thanks for playing it to the end and for the feedback! :-)

Maybe I can try to make the randomness a bit more predictable initializing by a fixed seed, so that it's always the same upon restart.

Submitted(+1)

Wow, that was fun and addicting.  I never quite felt totally in control, but I did make it to the end!  Nice work.

If you like platformers, please try our game.

Very challenging game, found it impossible to get higher than 1 star in any level though haha. Good job :)

Developer

Not even on the first level?

It's 2 stars if you complete it with max 3 shots and 3 stars if you manage with a single shot :-)

I tested it myself that single shooting them is possible.

This is great, very compulsive gameplay and the name reminds me of the Moonanites.

Developer

eheh! I've never heard about the Moonanites before! great show :-D

Compared to other games that are all trying to avoid the black hole or use gravity to destroy the player, you have made gravity to both destroy the player and the enemies. What a unique approach and fun mechanism!

I would say the movements sometimes are a bit chaotic and makes it difficult and a little bit frustrating, but I have to admit that watching the chaotic behaviour is one of the most important elements of this game. Great work! (btw I beat the game, yay!)

Developer

I implemented the gravity a bit "cartoonish" to lower chaos: for example planet's moons and the asteroid belt are not affected by gravity but instead they rotate around their parent entity.

Great job beating the game! :-)

And thanks for the feedback

Pretty cool, and really difficult! But in a "the mechanics are hard to master" way, not a "the game is being unfair" way! The music could be a bit less grating, but gameplay-wise it's great!

Genius simplistic game. Very challenging after the first levels. I like that a lot. Also props for the settings menu. Sounds are nice and fitting. Good fun. Great job.

Submitted(+1)

Really fun game! Easy to learn but hard to master, my favorite type of game. The later levels get really difficult but I could feel myself learning the mechanics over time and getting better at leading my shots.

The art and audio are really well done and it's a very polished experience overall. The difficulty curve felt just right and having the friendly moons was an extra challenge. The only critique I have is that it ended too soon haha!

Developer

I'm still not satisfied with the difficulty curve myself and I'm planning to add 24 levels after the voting period to assess it.

I only put 8 levels in the game jam version because I know that everyone has a lot of playing to do and I didn't want to steal too much time :-)
But I have ideas about new levels with dual black holes and new shooting mechanics (dual shooting, propelling) to spice it up and add some more problem solving depth.

Sounds awesome! Would be happy to help playtest new levels if you need more eyes on them. :)

Nice game bro! Couldnt beat it though ahaha find below my review

That's the amount of swearing I want to hear when someone try this game :-D

Thanks for the review! It was interesting when you understood that you only have 10 shots from the UI itself and when you figured out how to shoot the volcanic planet on the 4th level to hit the other two: that make me more confident that UI and level design are not too far from where I want them to be.

Great job this has so so so much polish I'm jealous. I can't imagine getting any more than a single star per level but the graphics were awesome, the level design, and the physics were very clean. Great job

Developer

I still have some polishing to do, especially when objects gets sucked by the black hole.

I managed to single shot finishing all levels (for 3 stars) and speed run it in 65 seconds, but I spent a lot of time playing it, so it's good to hear feedback from new players :-)

I really enjoyed this game! The level progression was great. I immediate got sucked into (heh!) the gameplay mechanic. The more you play, the more you start to master the shooting of the moons. Winning feels great, losing feels great. Absolutely amazing! One of the best uses of oribital physics!

Developer

eheh! nice pun! :-D

Thanks for the comment!

Addictive gameplay, great concept, although I found level 2 to be harder than some of the later levels, which almost made me quit early (maybe thats just me though). Otherwise great game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! The difficulty curve is surely something broken with the name and I'm planning to fix it after the voting period, also adding 24 more levels at least :-)

Submitted(+1)

Really fun experience. Very intuitive and fast pace so that losing does not frustrate. (Oo)d

Submitted(+1)

That was awesome! I really enjoyed this one. It was a unique concept and was fun to play. In fact, it was even fun to lose because it was hilarious to see how the gravity would make everything spin out of control. Great job on this one!

This is one of my favorites, I just wish it was a tad easier. There were a few times I got a direct hit and thought, "Yeah!" only for the planets to be unaffected. I would have liked a tiny invisible nudge when you make contact just to help feedback. Still really loved the concept and gameplay. Well done.

Developer

I know what you mean...
I'm using Godot's physics engine to handle collisions, but when they are not frontal, there isn't enough feedback to displace the planet.

I can try to play with the mass of bullets and bounciness of bodies and see if I can improve lateral collisions without making frontal collision feel off.

Thanks for reporting this!

The shooting on this game was super fun. I think you did a really good job on the level of difficulty. If you ever iterate on this game, I will make sure to beat all those levels too! (Maybe even with 3 stars on each)

Gameplay: I really liked the shooting in this game. I feel like it should be easier to get 3 stars on harder levels

Graphics: No problems

Audio: I liked the music and the SFX were really good.

Innovation: Its pretty inovative.

Theme: You are shooting with a moon.

Overall: I really liked this game good job.

I had some extreme difficulty with this game. It was fun though! I think a little bit more of an introduction explaining how to play and you've got a great game here. The one thing I found difficult was the music. Something about it just annoyed me. The sfx were great and fine, but the music didn't feel on point - felt a little too slow/down-tempo for my expectations based on the game play. Overall a fine entry, and I look forward to seeing more from you. Bonus points from me for Godot. :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedbak. I'll collect all at https://github.com/renato-grottesi/moonarchists/issues/15 and address it after the voting period :-)

I'm quite of a beginner with making music, so all comments on that front are welcome!

Good to see you'll keep working on it! I think you're definitely onto a good game here - would love to see more. I could definitely see playing this on my phone. Re: the music, it just didn't feel like the speed of the game matched it. I would have made something at a higher speed, or even just sped up what was there and gave that a listen to tell if it was right. I'm not an expert on creating music, so can't help much more than that, but this is my opinion anyway - you should definitely make the game feel the way you want it to.
