Really awesome idea here! it's fun to decide on what to upgrade and see how far you can get!
Thanks BurnsBoy for playing and enjoying it! Happy new year!
simple but awesome game! i love how you used the theme, is so fun hit bug with the laptop.
Great work and great entry!
Thank you Lukenet! We are happy you enjoyed it!
awesome game! the concept is great! I like this unique style of fighting, every round you got to choose the appropriate upgrade , nice graphics too! i would play this one again! (good replay value) , overall I enjoyed playing! congratulations! keep it up!
Thanks so much for your words ironhandmd!
Amazing. I will try the laptop slap at work see if I get any bugs fixed, ahhahaha
Hello sellisd,
Thanks for playing! I hope you won't break anything else except the bugs :D.
This is a really enjoyable and addicting game, made it to round 26. I love the idea of making a game like this and the animations are really smooth too. Maybe the special abilities could use a slight buff, but other than that this is still an awesome game! Great work!
Thanks for playing, you're totally right about the stronger abilities and we'll definitely give them more depth and usability if we work on the game any further :D
Amazing graphics and perspective! Very polished animations.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
I have played this one before the submission period and enjoyed playing it once again to rate it. It is very addictive, I have played 10s of rounds, trying out different tactics.
Only issue I found is that bigger moves seem pretty useless, I always picked other upgrades over them, since rounds end too quick for these to be useful.
Great work, I would definitely love to see more of this!
Thanks so much for your kind words! Indeed, we noticed that as well a bit late but didn't have the time to do anything about it. There's a lot of potential to extend the mechanics of this genre, so we'll definitely look into developing it more (no promises though, I'm already three projects behind in terms of indie dev games)
I really enjoyed playing this game! Great conception!
Thanks Sebastien! :D
This was a fun little game. I enjoyed the isometric room and music. I wish I had more of an opportunity to use the bigger moves, as I feel like most of the rounds were over in 1-2 hits.
You are right, ideally we would have wanted to give those late game attacks more depth and reasons to hold out for them (eg. stronger attacks miss much less so that there is an interesting risk-reward scenario) but time was of the essence. Thanks for playing, Philip!
Really enjoyed this, sort of reminds me of Pokemon on the Gameboy (if you know what I mean). Great graphics, sound and animation.
Glad you like it! Pokemon turn-based combat and some of the player/enemy stats was our main inspiration, so that's awesome to hear!
Really nice job. I love your graphics and your animations.
Did you do all the modeling and animating yourselves?
Awesome game!
Thanks so much! We made all of the assets ourselves but used Mixamo for rigging and animations.
A nice idea but the gameplay isn’t quite there yet.
I really wanted the other attacks to have a different animation and maybe some variety of opponent, but the bugs died before being able to try the bigger attacks and the smaller attacks all played out the same. It was a bit fiddly getting the mouse at the right height to select and play a card too.
I think the deadline hadn’t come too soon this could’ve been great.
Thanks for playing, Becky! As you said, we'd love to add more variety in animations, characters and overall interactivity in the game but it was tough to do given the jam duration + full-time jobs . Thanks for noticing the card height issue, some other players have mentioned it as well and we'll look into it!
Round 25 for me either. Great art. Had some fun :)
Glad you liked it! :D
Survived until the round 25, that bug...was...to much....stack overflow....bzzzz
Great game! I am not a fan of card games, but this, this is fun, I like the slap sound :))
Thanks Alex! Next time we're making an entire game out of that slap sound
noice
Really cool game, made it to lvl 29! Cher approves.
:catno:
SO simple yet so fun. My favorite skill was compiler error, as I wanted that bug dude to really feel the sense of disappointment and anger. Great work!
Haha thanks for playing vonhoon and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
What if I told you you could go 25 rounds in a slapfight with bugs? You get a laptop though, and this will make all the difference. This is code wars. I love the concept and the game kept me playing long enough, but something interesting that I bought early and never used? The two abilities that take 3 and 5 rounds to use. If a fight lasts that long, it's usually the last round as either your enemy is dealing so much damage to you that you are close to death if they hit you (a good reason to start stacking evade early), or you're doing so much damage to them with your basic laptop slap that even if the time for these high damage attacks comes around, the enemy is practically dead. Overall it's a very easy to understand and well explained game to play and I loved smacking them bugs though-
Thanks so much for playing Grizzly and for the detailed feedback! You're totally right with those late-game attacks. Ideally those would also have a higher accuracy effect (never miss the attack for example) but we didn't have enough time to implement all that extra functionality. Also yeah, balancing is far from perfect and it's the first time we tried a game with so many interconnected stats so it was a challenge to say the least.
I really like it! It's a really fun game, and I love the art style.
Thanks for playing, Glassedgmr! Glad you love the style, funny thing we used a pixel art color palette for the texturing of the assets :')
loved the combat system. with more enemyes, scenarios, that's a strong game. congrats
Thanks Sabacu! The plan was to build an open-ended system to do just that, more enemies, more unique animations and interactions and some more depth. Unfortunately we didn't have the capacity to add more things for the duration of the jam, but it was definitely considered. :D
yeah, I really liked it and I'm not talking about these points as flaws, but something like with a few more variations the game is quite complete and replayable
Ha! Fun. I made it to round 9. I could not figure out how to reliably click on the “cards” to choose my attack. Remained a mystery to the end whether I was supposed to mouse over and wait or click before they moved. shrugs
It was fun! I wish I could slap the bugs in real life.
Thanks for playing! That's interesting because we never heard of that issue (but we're definitely noting it). Glad you had fun at least, bug slapping was the #1 priority of it!
