Very nice game with lovely music and a cute (although somewhat dark) atmosphere. The maze in the beginning was a bit too stretched out for my taste. But I think it’s still great.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed your playthrough and I'm glad the most frequent 'gripe' is the cave, Once the Jam is over I'll be sure to refine it :)
This was a really nice and cute game! At the beginning, I was a bit worried that this might end up being a horror game or something, but as I went on, my fears were alleviated. I love the dialouge and all the bugs helping out Oshi, as well as the "fight" with the sewer rat. The music also really helped set the mood! Great job! I hope Oshi made it back to her home :)
Thanks so much for the positive words! We really appreciate all the kind feedback we're getting and love that people are enjoying the game! After the Jam we'll be working on the 'full' version where you'll find out if Oshi does in fact make it home! I loved your project too and would love to see it expanded more :)
Thank you so much. don't worry it's way far from being a horror game. Unless maybe you have phobia of insects haha. We are so glad that everyone liked the game :) and thank you also for your feedback :D
Really nice game, great music and visuals. Like the choice to use grapes instead of hearts for health. Unfortunately, the text didn't show up for me :( Maybe there's something up with my mac?
I'm so sorry about this but thank you for making me aware I'll be sure to fix this! I'm really sorry this spoiled your experience :(
No worries, I was still able to do everything else and I enjoyed what I played. Looking forward to trying it again once it's been patched.
Thank you so much. We are truly sorry for the glitch with the dialogue that you had :( . but we are planning to fix all the bugs after the game jam! . And thank you so much for your feedback!.
Beautiful game. The audio is really nice did you make that yourself!? I also like there are new gameplay in different levels (leading giant insect to the stone, dodging rats) that keeps me interested in playing the game.
Thanks for playing, super glad you enjoyed it! We were fortunate enough to come across an incredible sound artist who just kept producing amazing songs for us to use!
Oh my god the music ! I love how the music and the art style come together. The post processing effects give it nice dream like polish. Also nice story, reminds me of something like studio ghibli movies.
We're so happy you love our project, and even happier of your reference to the master-work of Ghibli! One of our big inspirations was Arietty so it's honestly such a compliment for someone to pick up on those vibes!
Very complete project, nicely done! The atmosphere in the levels created by the lighting and music is conveyed to the player well, and the dialogue of the creatures you meet along the way is interesting. My only issue is that making the player collect all 10 bugs scattered across the map was a bit cruel, especially as I had 8 when I met the big bug 😆 Very cool game!
Thanks for the feedback :) One of the biggest feedbacks we've had is on the bug collection segment so i'll be looking at adjusting that after the jam to remove some of the frustration for the player! Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed the lighting and music!
Great dreamlike atmosphere, and nice use of the insect theme. It really does feel like a dream. Nicely done.
Thanks for the comment! Really glad you enjoyed the style and atmosphere of our game!
The art, the dungeon placement is great, it's like playing Yomawari (but is not scary).
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed playing our game and a comparison to a published game is a huge compliment! I look forward to digging into the net!
Thanks again!
I really liked the art style and atmosphere of the game!
The isometric/pseudo 3d style worked so well with the exploration gameplay, and the music for various areas was very fitting.
Really great work!
Thanks for the feedback! We really enjoyed working on this project and love that others are enjoying our work too! We're looking forward to developing the world of Oshi further after the jam and really bringing the game to life! Look forward to playing your project (It's on my todo list!)
Thanks again :)
Very cool game! I feel like the underground maze is a bit bigger than I would prefer, I wanted to explore but had to stick to 'stay on one side of the wall' because I kept getting lost. Some landmarks I think would help. Overall great game!
Hey there!
I've had pretty similar feedback from the cave and will look at tweaking it - my vision for it was for the player to keep getting lost, and feel as confused as Oshi would so in that way it was a success, but perhaps pushed a little too hard! Landmarks are 100% planned for a more developed version outside the jam to help people navigate their way through the world!
Thanks a million for the feedback!
Well done!
That chapter intro was top notch, and set the vibe for the game so well. The different lighting effects once you're out of the cave were so cool also. I love the unqiue music for different areas and the dialogue you wrote for the individual bugs was great! Each bug felt like they had unique and interesting characters. I think the scope of this game was also very ambitious and I feel I only scratched the surface (I didn't actually finish unfortunately). The level design was also pretty great, with collectables showing up on the edges of the screen, hinting at hidden paths. I also love the little snippets of dialogue here and there as oshi notes some smell or thing she notices. A great touch!
My main critiques was with some design choices. I love unqiue lighting in games, especially when they're enhancing the aesthetic, allowing the player to immerse themselves in the experience. However, you may need to balance your use of dim lighting in areas of the game. The first chapter especially is quite rough with the level being fairly monochromatic and maybe too dim in my opinion. I also think there's a temptation to make things challenging when they don't need to be. I think the maze and level design, along with the charachters and dialogue would be enough, the addition of the scorpions felt more like a neusance than anything.
Also as a side note, I've read your comments about a map for navigation, which in my personal opinion may detract from the exploritave gameplay. Minimaps may draw the players attention away from the environment as they may just look at the map the whole time whilst they're navigating the maze. I think adding more landmarks and tightning the map layout may be enough to make it easier to navigate.
Great work here all in all. The best part for me was for sure the dialogue. <3
Hello!
Thank you so, so much for the extensive review! I'm so glad you enjoyed the experience past the cave but really appreciate the feedback on that area!
We really wanted to make the player feel as lost as Oshi was in that first level and I was hoping to add more landmarks and visual cues to location, I do agree I would prefer that over a mini-map as the whole concept of that level was for the player to be lost and alone, though it may have been pushed to hard and become somewhat frustrating I'll definitely look into improving it! Once the Jams over I think we'll continue building out the world of Oshi as my personal feeling of failure was not bringing enough life as i'd like to the world and environment!
Again, thank you so so much for the feedback and good luck in the Jam!
Well now I'm just confused! But thanks?!
Thanks dad
Amazing art and music. Love the dialogue with the talking bugs and exploratory nature of gameplay
thanks for the feedback! I can't wait to play your sub, (I'll be adding it to tomorrow's lost of todos)!
I love the pseudo 3d artstyle, the gameplay was fun and the intro sequence was mesmerizing
Thanks so much! I loved unchosen and cant wait to delve more time into it!!
This was so charming! I played through all of the levels! It was so satisfying when you finally solve everything. Loved the dialogue, and it was funny too! The part where the spider is like "Let's go? Wow your really innocent" was so silly lol. The art was amazing, and the music was just as wonderful! I loved the verticality to the environments, it really felt like I was in a giant environment. I liked meeting all of the creatures too. Very nicely done. I would love to see more in the future, thanks for all of the content!
Thanks so much for the amazing feedback! We originally had 5 levels planned however due to time had to cut back however am looking forward to releasing the full version after the Jam! I'll be sure to let you know when we do!
Loved the art style, and the background music was really good! I got pretty lost and ended up dying right before finding the 10th glowing bug :( Maybe having a way to regain health would be great, or a minimap that gets revealed as you explore? I was randomly walking around a lot trying to find the last few bugs.
Thanks for the feedback! A mini-map is on the list but don't want to implement during the voting as I feel it's out of the nature of the Jam! If you want to explore more levels providing you downloaded the 'Oshi_Win' file you will be able to use the 'chapters' from the main menu to explore other levels!
Loved the art, music, and story! I have a soft spot for pixel art, haha. Love the way every part of the game made me feel welcomed and like I was really in the set environment. The offsetting of where the player and enemies moves from where the art actually showed where you could walk was a little frustrating though.
Hey Dannan!
Super happy you loved the style of the game and felt pulled into it! Sorry the colliders are a little off, I can acknowledge this myself but in the timeframe simply didn't get time but i'll add it to the to-do list after the Jam to fix and improve!
Thanks a million!
I like the art and the whole ethmosphere the most. I was walking around in circles a lot but managed to find 8 worms, would have loved to see more of the game since on the screenshots I can see there is more. I wish the damn beetle would settle for 8 instead of 10 :). Great job!
Hey MadMenyo, thanks for taking the time to play our game I'm glad you enjoyed what you saw of it! Just to let you know we've added a 'chapter select' option on Oshi_Win build, no gameplay fixes/mechanic changes as that's not in the spirit but hey, If you want to explore more you now can (and It may change your rating seeing more of the game who knows!)
Damn that art is fire
Thanks so much! I'll be sure to give yours a play ASAP as it looks gorgeous! Don't forget to rate us as well if you haven't already!
Beautiful graphics, Nice use of lighting, works really well !
Thanks so much for our first comment/review! We hope through this Jam to gauge the interest in seeing our little project grow further so really appreciate the feedback! Can't wait to give yours a play!
