Game description
9/12: Thanks to @celloloops help, the game is now also playable in the browser!

The 500 Numbers Game is a strategic guessing tournament where players face off, using their knowledge of each other’s secret strategies to guess numbers. Can you outsmart your opponents and claim the throne with the fewest attempts?

How to Play

1. Start the Tournament

After selecting your name, the tournament will be automatically drafted, and you’ll be placed in a match against a unique contender. Each of your opponents has their own secret strategy that you can see before or during the battle.

2. View Opponent Information

To view your opponent’s strategy, simply click the blue INFO button located in the top-left corner of the screen. This will reveal crucial information about how they plan to guess numbers.

3. 18 Unique Contestants

There are 18 different contenders, each with their own distinct guessing strategy. Study their methods carefully, as every player plays with a different approach.

4. Guess the Right Numbers

Knowing your opponent’s strategy is helpful, but it’s not enough to win. You still need to guess the right numbers in the limited number of attempts. Make every guess count!

5. Compete for the Throne

Do you have what it takes to win the 500 Numbers Throne? Finish the tournament in the fewest attempts possible and share your record below to see who can finish the quickest!

Theme interpretation
The theme influenced me in two key ways:

1. It inspired the core concept of the game—guessing opponents’ secret numbers to progress in the tournament.

2. It shaped the unique mechanic where players can view their opponents’ secret strategies, using this insight to outwit them and claim victory.

Really neat game! Such a fun game with a very simple premise. I thought you did a great job!

Great entry! You get a surprizing amount of mileage out of a pretty easy to understand gameplay mechanic. My favourite competitor was of course The Goat ;)

Congratulations on your first ever game!! That's a huge achievement and I hope you stick with it. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Nice first game ! Are the characters and background part of the asset pack ? You said you used one but didn’t say what kind of stuff was in it ^^” Love that you made a story around it too ^^

Guessing numbers turns out to be a pleasant activity!

Cool art style and concept! Some battle music (even if just chip tunes) would be great to go along with it. I did find a bug where my last enemy kept guessing numbers over 500, which made that battle way too easy

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, Yeah! I want to add the music after the jam! Did not had any more time left.

Do you know which enemy it was? Would be great to know for debugging. Did not had that bug before!

Haha that was great, the art was fantastic and I love the simple premise. It seems like it runs into the issue that binary search is pretty much always going to win optimally unless enemies intentionally pick values to foil that. (I think one of my enemies uses binary search which was fun to try to counter). Also the game pops up real big on my screen and the text got like pixelated, not sure what happened there I'm on 1920x1080. I won on my first go round, I love the attitudes on the enemies. Would have been cool to have music or sound even a little. Straighforward games done well are always excellent

Game reminds me of flash games I used to play back in 2010s, Good job. addition of sound & music could make it better.

I love the look of this game! Can you please publish a web playable version?

Looks like you're using Godot. For me, the HTML5 exporter worked, and then I just needed to "Export Project" with "index.html," then zip up the folder it created, and uploaded it to itch.io.

Developer

Thank you so much! I had some time tonight so I checked it out and now it's in my browser. So great to see how easy it is.

I was already preparing my code for a mobile option. And I just played a full mobile game through the browser. So happy with this.

Wonderful, focused experience!! Great characters and concept. And congrats on building your first game and on your first game jam!

Interesting game! 😄 I completed it using binary search, which was a fun twist. A very solid result, especially impressive for a debut — great job! It's a pity there was no music

Developer

Thank you for your kind compliments. Haha binary search to win!  Good to know, in a future update I know what to counter haha.

Very simple but pretty fun! I enjoyed that you added some world building to the number guessing game lol

As others said, simple but addicting. Preferences add a layer of strategy to this game, as halving, mathematically,  would be the most efficient way to go. Music would fit perfectly in here and - as others said - be the icing on the cake. Good job!

Thank you for your feedback. Can you tell me exactly what you mean by the sentence below? Thanks in advance.

Preferences add a layer of strategy to this game, as halving, mathematically,  would be the most efficient way to go.

EDIT: My last explanation was likely to technical. Here's what I meant

Sure! I just meant that, mathematically, halving the range of possible numbers each time is the most efficient way to narrow down the target. For example, if you're guessing a number between 1 and 100, you'd start at 50, then depending on whether you're too high or low, guess 25 or 75 next, and so on. This strategy works because it minimizes the number of guesses needed on average.

Preferences, though, add an interesting twist! If the opponent has a known tendency (e.g., they prefer smaller numbers), you might adjust your guesses to focus on those areas first. This makes the game more dynamic and strategic!

A really simple but fun and addictive game, liked the visuals of the game,

this game is so simple... but I had so much fun hahahah. I managed to win once out of 5-6 tries. I laughed when I saw THE GOAT

In all seriousness, it is an enjoyable game, although simple. I loved the artstyle. Having audio in this game would have been the icing on the cake. I loved how many characters there are, and the strategies made it more engaging than just random guessing. Though some strategies were a lot more clear than others.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback! I think one of my biggest regrets is that I did not have enough time to finish the audio. I had the audio tracks ready, but in the end I did not have enough time to implement them.

And I also love TheGoat and that he became the new ruler of the 500 number throne in your playthrough.
