Game description
A top-down 2D stealth action game with an emphasis on secrets, puzzle-solving and time management.

Theme interpretation
The film Dr. Strangelove, which I saw for the first time the same day as the theme was announced by coincidence, heavily inspired the game.

When I saw that the story involved a secret code to retrieve and a race against time itself and connected the dots with the theme and the Speed Run wildcard, I thought at that moment "that's perfect!". As if it was destiny calling. So, that's what we rolled with.

Wildcards used (optional)

Small Palette

Limit your colors to 4

Speed Run

Lots of potential here if you can fix the bugs. Great variety, and ambitious to try and get all this together into a single game. Like everyone I had the AI do nothing - until I picked up the gun, then 50% of guards started working and shooting me. The puizzle with lights I didn't know was a puzzle - there was no reason to believe the objects could be interacted until I randomly happened to walk into one. But then solving the puzzle had no effect. Bug, or just a puzzle that has no obvious solution? But needs a bit more affordance to say which things are interactable (toilet was not ,but random furniture was).

Also took me ages to get past the opening text because I hit many other things before randomly pressing 'space'. Make it work for any key, or mouse too.

And put the instructions on the webpage - they flicked up briefly and were gone, so I had to find controls by trial and error.

Developer

Thanks for the  feedback.

The lack of effect when solving the light puzzle is probably due to an already reported bug of the fax machine animation not triggering and the sprite for the instantiated code fax being invisible (although it can still be collected, as proven by its presence in the inventory).

Also, I will consider putting the control scheme on the webpage soon enough.

I feel like the game mechanics needs more work. The game feedbacks aren't really clear especially in combat. And most time I didn't acknowledge if there's a puzzle and I may have solve the puzzle or I may have not.

But the artwork is nice and the audio is very good.

I liked this part the most in your game. I also thought that you spent a little more time in designing and developing this game! Cheers!

Developer

My apologies, but your comment about us "spending a little more time" confuses us.

Is this meant to be a compliment or a bit of criticism?

several rooms with different types of game: good idea.

The music is good and the countdown is impressive

Great job!

Your game was super fun! I enjoyed the art and music, and the timer constantly counting down definitely added some anxiety when mixed with the music. Great work!

The AI bullets didn't seem to injure me, not sure why? So I was able to just ignore the guards. Some of the puzzles I wasn't able to fully figure out either (namely, the one with the lights... I got them all on but no letter was printed).

WARNING: !!SPOILER IMG.(IMG of Gameplay)!!

As I heard of the theme I thought a LOT of people would lean more heavily on "mystery" than "secrets"; however, you were different in the aspect that you went straight to secret codes and added a stealth mechanic as a little special something: unbelievably good! The graphics, music, and animations are downright impeccable for a game jam submission! The image you see below is a bug I found when as I was leaving a room the corridor won't load; however, I feel this was more a loading problem than a graphics problem, so I didn't take this into account in my graphics ratings. Just wanted to point it out if you are thinking of fully publishing(idk if I am lol).

Basically, GREAT JOB, and good use of incorporating different mechanics into the game(ie. Stealth-Combat, Puzzle, etc...)!

One of the most fun games I've played from the jam. The AI was pretty buggy, making the stealth easy and combat unnecessary, but the puzzle gameplay was very fun. I was often confused by what items in my inventory actually did and I never figured out how to order the letters but it was still a lot of fun. I like that the timer adds some urgency to the game.

Developer

Thank you for the compliments.

As of figuring out how to order the letters, the envelope you may have collected is meant to provide a subtle hint on the word these five letters forms. And its content and position in the game world changes depending on the predefined code randomly selected for the playthrough.

Unfortunately, this mechanic has its technical issues too, it seems, as I encountered a player collecting an invisible envelope he wasn't meant to collect, and that "false" envelope had overridden the true one in the description space of the inventory menu.

Small Palette & Speed Run are well used here, Game is fun & a good ol retro, i think the enemy AI was a bit buggy. for me most of the enemies were either sleeping or not attacking.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. We're aware of the issues about the enemy AI, but I don't know if we're allowed to fix this before the jam's voting process ends in January.

This was pretty creative and a neat twist on a mixture of genres/games (besides being replayable too), well done!

Really nice looking and has a real fun concept, it gets my highest rating: good!

All of the assets work well to bring out the retro theming. I may have blown everyone up, but at least we had a blast doing it.
