Really, really fun! The core gameplay is quite solid, and the tactical options are very fun. My favourite part was when I killed the first big guy and found out that I could revive him, so satisfying!

Visual-wise I think you’ve got what was needed, sometimes it’s kind of hard to see what is happening, whose guys are whose, all you know is that things are fighting, but honestly, it’s more than good enough for a game-jam.

The AI is very functional, some commands for them would have been nice, like a “go here” command, but once again, game-jam, so that would be a nice addition for the future.

Overall, really satisfying, and has solid core gameplay, so I think that with just some spit-and-shine you’d have a very satisfying pre-alpha in your hands.

Thank you for playing, and I appreciate the detailed  feedback! :)

You've mentionned some good points, and I'll be noting them for future improvement, thank you!

That was really fun, I loved that you could resurrect the wolves, great implementation! Please rate our game if you would like :)  https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2022/rate/1554224#post-5960926

Wow really good game. I love necromancy in games and you did a great job of capturing that feeling. I think I did a little better than Rick did but I still died haha. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, appreciate the feedback :)

Well done, you've beaten the secret boss Rick! haha

Nice work! If possible I would greatly appreciate a linux build, and I wouldn’t mind testing it for you.

I think this game is mechanically very satisfying. It reminds me a little bit of Overlord, which makes me kind of wish there was a Beacon spell that could force allies to target a specific enemy in the radius. I found the spells to be fairly well balanced, and once I realized even my fireballs weren’t exactly effective but saw the effectiveness of the revived wolves the whole game sort of clicked for me.

The controls are a little laggy because of webGL, but otherwise I think the interface is very intuitve. I didn’t have any issue targeting enemies, though mechanically I think the way enemies retreat to their original space when you escape their boundaries is a little too exploitable. It takes a while for the game to really up the danger level, which is good for learning but could leave a slow first impression.

The game mostly has a very clean aesthetic, but I think the terrain comes across as less stylized. In the future I think you would benefit a lot from having more cartoonish textures on the ground and using harder brushes to mark the path, in order to fit your low poly style. A polygonal normal mesh might also help push that low-poly aesthetic. Combined with the map design I did enjoy the slow shift from forests and outer walls to castle gates and fortresses, which felt very natural.

The main issue I had with the game other than WebGL performance is in the audio. Most of the sounds are good on their own and a few missing particles or sounds are understandable with the ten days, but in more chaotic situations the audio can start overlapping and distorting. I would recommend getting an audio mixer set up to resolve this.

Overall, good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for the detailed feedback! :)

I will be making a linux build, would be happy if you can test it out.

For the WebGL, I have an audio mixer setup but for some reasons it doesn't have the same levels on the web version compared to pc. Since I didn't have enough time couldn't really polish that part, but I'll note it.

Submitted(+1)

That makes perfect sense, our game is missing all reverb and chorus effects on WebGL. Don’t even get me started on how it handles video playback. :’)

Developer(+1)

Uploaded a Linux build, would appreciate you testing and giving feedback about  the version.

There’s still some framerate fluctuation, which is to be expected with a gamejam. The input lag is entirely gone and it feels responsive. I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary with this version of the game.

The audio distortion is still there; it’s specifically the Dark Resurrection ability. If you lower that sound slightly, I think the audio situation will be fine.

Very well done and impressive for a game jam!  Has a nice Diablo feel to it with the resurrection - a really cool game mechanic.

Thanks for playing! :)

you got a lot of hype yesterday on stream and after playing it i must admit: absolutely deserved!
I especially appreciate how you were able to create a perfect sized game for this game jam format - there's not a dull moment and an absolutly crazy final battle in the end.
it might be quite hard to make a full (and balanced) game with that mechanic later on - but right here and now this game freakin rocks!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the positive feedback, and I'm happy to hear the game stands to this quality, thank you! :)

Quite fun to play :D

Necromancer is always one of my favorite classes and this delivers. Great entry.

Developer

Thank you  for playing, and I'm glad to hear I managed to convey the necromancer experience :)

Great game guys, congratulations! I liked the progression a lot. I began running away from peasants and finished it destroying the king like it was nothing. And there's nothing more satisfying than resurrecting a bunch of corpses at at the same time. The game ran smooth for me. The only bit of weirdness that happened to me was that the victory music was overlapping with the awesome menu music at the end. Congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you  for playing! I'm happy to hear you had a great experience :)

Just to know, did you play on browser or PC? I think the performance issue comes mostly from the browser version.

Submitted(+1)

Played on browser. Bt aside from the music thing, the game ran smooth for me.

Submitted(+1)

Oh wow! Love the game!

Nothing beats being a necromancer!

I thought the movements were a bit laggy, but i could finish either way The powers were awesome!

Wish there were more to play ;-;

Developer(+1)

Thank you really appreciate it! Happy I managed to convey the necromancer experience :)

Stay tuned as this is a step for a future long term RPG!

Dude! Your game really stands out from the others, it is so fun, so unique

Wow

Just gave you the highest ratings i gave all through the jam

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm very happy you had a great experience :)

This was such a fun game to play, love it, took me a moment to understand the spells a bit better, but after some experimentation I had a lot of fun. Great game

Developer

Thank you! Glad you had a good time :)

Impressive Work,  you should work on this Title more and continue improving it.

Solid Concept and Idea that could work out  well in a bigger Frame.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your encouragement! :)

I definitely will be making a long term rpg in the future, where this necromancer would only be a class between many.

Submitted(+1)

All in all very impressive achievement in such a short time!

Developer

Thank you, really appreciate it!

This is one of the most impressive games I have played in this Jam. Well done to the whole team. I found it very difficult though, I couldn't get past the first group of pitchfork people.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

To beat the peasants you would need to kill one of them as soon as you can before your army of zombie wolves die! It is a soft check for you to use apply the fireball and resurrect skill you learned.

However I will take your feedback into account when balancing in the future, thanks :)

Submitted(+1)

I really fricken enjoyed this <3 I found myself barely using some spells though, particularly the ones that took a long time to cast and took so much mana. I feel there's a lot that can be improved but for a game jam this is mighty impressive and I hope you continue to improve this or make a full game out of it.

Developer

Thank you for playing, really appreciate your feedback :)

Making games is my passion, wether it will be this project or another I'll keep improving and making more quality games!

Submitted(+1)

Very nice, didn't have time to have more than a couple of goes but I do plan to come back to it because I was enjoying it. The fireball was a little disappointing to me. For the long windup time and mana cost I was expecting a massive, D&D sized fireball. Big explosion, lots of damage but it didn't seem to do much.
I liked the way you balanced the level and introduced the spells one by one. Its the professional touches like that that make a game stand out for me. At no point was I confused about what I was supposed to be doing

I was surprised to read you haven't done the RPG course because there's so much similarity - I know you say its an RPG but there are a lot of RPGs and this had a lot the was the same or very close - right down to the grass texture (is that unity default? I don't remember anymore) and the sound effect the mobs make when they die! Even the health and mana bubbles are the same (or very similar) as they use in the promo (but I don't think they're every actually implemented in the course). I suspect you shop at the same free asset store haha.

Developer

Thank you for playing, and appreciate the feedback!

Will definitely note your fireball idea as it seems something I find will fit the game too.

Yes as I said I have done the rpg manually from all of my cumulated knowledge.

As for the assets, they are all free stuff we find commonly since we didn't want to create them from scratch when they are  already available (mostly from quaternius, the asset store, open game art etc.)
On the audio side most of them were created manually by the sound artist in our team.

It would a long list to say what is ours or not. I mostly took the best sounds to me, wether it's ours or free assets, and put them together where I thought would fit.

Submitted(+1)

I'm not questioning that you did, I even went and had a sneak peak at your source code because the similarities are uncanny. It definitely one of the games I'm going to come back to when I have more time and I hope you keep developing it. You've got a lot done in the time and its very polished

Developer

Thank you again, appreciate your support  for the game :)
